The new app is an incredible upgrade but let's be honest, the bar was quite low to begin with. Importing RAW's would be nice but for now this'll do!

Having used apps from other brands, Fuji had set the bar really low before (it was terrible) and this new XApp is somewhat better in terms of connection reliability and speed but the geotagging process is very ordinary. And even 6-7 years ago on the old Pentax app I could choose which SD card to download from and happily transfer raw files if I wanted.

I have 2 massive issues with the new app and they're related. Permissions. Not only do you need to leave location services on ALL THE TIME (huge battery drain) but also notifications? I let 3 apps have notification privileges, phone, messages & calendar. I don't want anything else interrupting me. I could maybe live with the location one (but still, let me turn it off if I don't want to use the geotagging) but notifications issues is ridiculous. The only walk around is to go into settings each time I want to use the app and turn them on, use the app and then go back and turn them off again? Shame on you fuji.

I used it last Thursday when in Leith, Scotland (for the first time) to add the location to each photo.
It was no better than the old app, and still dropped the link to my X100V, and added a location in Glasgow (on the other side of the country) to most of the images (some did have the real location though) so it’s hard to say whether it was better or worse than the old app.
It’s a totally different app from the old one though, and has a lot more menu options but some of the ‘terms’ are a bit confusing… such as initialise the app which resets it make a pairing to be needed afterwards.
I have an account with Fujifilm but it asked me to make an account for backing up the app but didn’t give me the option of using my accounts…

@@POVwithRC I get what you’re saying, but disagree. That’s just an excuse to how bad the other apps are compared to Leica’s.
Canon, Nikon and Sony also have cameras that are very expensive. A Canon R3 almost matches the Leica M11 price, it’s clearly a premium camera. Not the case for a Nikon Z9 which is a bit cheaper, but still a very expensive camera.

From the moment you have a $6k camera and someone is buying it, you should deliver the best possible service to that customer, regardless of your main target audience. The price point is not an excuse for such a gap that exists between Leica’s app and the others. Sony and Canon are probably more profitable than Leica as a company. I'm only intending to use this App for the location tagging. (Currently, I do this once I get home and after I'm import from camera onto computer)
The "Always Track" thing is annoying, but since I also shoot in studio locations my location never changes whilst shooting.
    So I did two things:
    - Change the settings in the App so that it only monitors location at the lowest rate (480 secs), rather than 10secs.
    - Once I finish shooting, I'll force quit the app so that it stops location tracking.
I always update camera firmware via SD card, so won't be doing via app.
No interest in the Activity log thing, so have not Registered or signed in for "Activity Record".
If I'm doing image transfer, it's either via a USB tether cable with Capture One, or done after my shoot.

I tried FujiFilm's old app numerous times, wanted to love it but gave up. Connecting camera and phone was slow and unreliable. Main reason for wanting a mobile device paired with the camera is geolocation, and I found that the first frame shot after pairing would have accurate coordinates, but every subsequent frame would be tagged with the exact same location! Which is fine if you are rooted to the spot, but really?
Just spent Memorial Day weekend in the Berkshires with my X-T3 (newly updated firmware) and this new app on an iPhone. It works. Connection is easy and solid (please ignore the atrocious grammar in the connection dialog on your camera). Geotagging worked just fine; know if your camera switches off for battery saving there will be a delay in regaining location data as the devices reconnect. Patience. As Omar says image preview and transfer is JPEG only :-( but no biggie, if RAWs really matter I'll capture RAW+JPEG.
Bottom line - I'll definitely use it again, and leave my Garmin at home, one less toy to carry hooray!

No support for older models cameras or phones. I've been doing well without the app since the previous app shot craps at it's start as well. You'd think with the price of the cameras Fuji could find someone to build a decent app.

I used the old app to update the firmware without a problem… I do wish Fujifilm would make the camera show a colour rather than a darker grey on the progress bar… FUJI!

Super helpful, Omar! You experienced some of the same limitations that I did with the XApp. I shoot RAWs exclusively but the second card has JPEG backups. However, neither card is readable by the app. Disappointing.

I completely gave up on the app about a year ago and just carry an sd card adapter to my phone instead. Way faster and I’m able to transfer RAW as well.

I don’t understand why it uses Bluetooth initially and then creates a temporary Wi-Fi link between camera and device to transfer images…. Isn’t logical, anyone know why?

After the latest update of the XT3 to allow the use of the new XApp, if you use the ADV filter the camera crashes. Fujifilm needs to fix it urgently with a new update.

Those image sizes seems small tome. Make sure you dont have an option to download full res images turned off or with a resize option enabled. Sometimes these apps resizes the image to a smaller size.

The program interface is not designed to flip, so the flipping an image stays in that same situation. Some programs would look wonkie if they flipped. And yes, the app is working great.

I also had to update my firmware before I could install XApp (the new app) and I also could not make the firmware upgrade work with the old app UNTIL I stopped XApp from RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND. Then the update worked great as it has in the past. Apparently the old and new apps don't play nicely together and as soon as I was up and running on the the new app, I uninstalled the old app. BTW: This was on a Pixel phone.

Maybe someone here knows, what in the world happened with the x100v? Not only can I not get one now, people have lost their minds and skyrocketed the prices on used one. Anyone know what is going on? Are they coming out with a new version or something? Also cool on the updated app.

Supply and demand. People are demanding and Fuji aren't supplying.
Got mine for what I considered a high price 12 months ago. Now they are selling for €600 more. Madness. The trend will end and people will move on to the next big thing, and either Fuji will start production again or release a new model - although my money's on 2025 for that. Even if I secretly hope they kill the line with the x100v goon out with a bang, with the replacement being a 16/18mm version with the 40mp chip for cropping!

I struggled to get it to connect to start with. It kept telling me to update the firmware even though I had. I then realised that was because I hadn't read the screen properly and I was accidentally clicking to say I had the old firmware. Okay, so this was my fault, but why can't the app tell what firmware you have?

  • @grafixnetz

Why does Fujifilm insist on "location always on" instead of "when using the app"??!!??
If I don't have a Fuji camera *with me*, then WHY???
If I'm not using the app then WHY???
Otherwise, MUCH better than the old app.

Again, the Fuji app is such a mess in terms of connectivity. There’s absolutely no reason (other than tracking your wherabouts) to have Location access Always On. Same for disabling many wifi related security settings. If you’re at all concerned about your privacy and data security, don’t use this App.
