Toy Story 5 should be about all the unsold Star Wars toys coming to terms with that nobody wants it. That would actually be a sneaky way to guilt trip kids into buying the toys.

The problem with the movie is that no one had the passion to make a movie. People were just cruising through their work day when they were writing the script because their boss told them they had to write a script. Force Awakens copied the beats from A New Hope without understanding why those beats were in A New Hope and the purpose they were supposed to serve and thus failed because of it.

True story I have here(may not mean much but here me out)When I was walking through my local Target(mostly out of boredom). In a far distance I saw a family of four searching through the Star Wars Forces of Forced Diversity dolls, and the girl whom they were buying the doll for, just wanted Chewbacca. I remember the little girl clearly telling the parents "I want the chewbacca one!" The parents offered her to get Rey, Jyn, and Leia, but ultimately the girl walked away with a Chewbacca doll. You know your company is doing something wrong when nobody cares about the new characters when part of the target demographic prefers the side characters over The newer main characters.

Ever since TFA, I've noticed nobody has bought a new action figure. People don't really want Rey, Finn, Poe or any new character Disney and Lucasfilm puts out. People like the characters from the OT and the PT, whether you were fond of the prequels or not, there were characters people did enjoy, though these new characters are pretty bland and boring. The main issue is the main fan base of star wars is boy's 8-12 years old. By focusing on making star wars nice for girls, they forgot to cater to their target audience. I am a new father and have taken my son over to play with other families and one thing I have noticed. Homes with boy's tend to be dominated by super hero's of all types. Homes of little girls are explosions of pink and pastels. Missing are massive troves of star wars toys maybe a light saber here or there. I bought my friends little 8 year old boy a lego X-wing and TIE fighter (the smaller bag versions) and much to my surprise they totally flopped. As it turned out Disney has found a formula to make something neither appealing to little boy's or little girls. Little Boy's don't associate with strong willed magic 19 year old women, and little girls like catchy songs and pretty dresses (let it go! let it go!, frozen refuses to die in some house holds )

I agree that boys don't usually like to play with toys of women. I can speak for myself because I didn't play with any when I was a kid. The only exceptions I can remember were the yellow and pink Power Rangers. And it was mainly because the Power Rangers were a team, so I had to get all six of them, you know?

I can tell you a few reasons why this is not moving. The main reason is that Disney inadvertently and deliberately alienated the hard core fans who have the money and inclination to buy this sort of stuff and catered to the casual fans and general audiences who generally do not. The hard core fans wanted to see the new republic on the rise, the empire in retreat and Luke training jedi and being a hero and a mentor. They wanted the EU in, clone wars maintained, LA not EA making the games, and did not want the rebels etc shows. By damaging Han's character and destroying Luke's Disney, KK, and RJ really turned a lot of folks off. Also KK made the mistake of catering to the sensitivities of some fools bu weakening the GE character. They should have left her more petulant and ballsy. KK should have left RO dark and character driven. Disney has made wrong decisions, logically, thematically, historically, and morally by the standards of those who know and value SW. In so doing they have trashed the collectible and memorabilia and resale markets that are run by exactly the sort of middle-aged middle class white men with $100,000's that Disney and KK deliberately disregarded, disrespected, outright insulted, alienated, and drove away.
Here is the thing about these $100 and up toys. No child is going to buy these, only adults. But, TLJ totally disrespected OT fans and danced around like Ewoks celebrating the outright disrespect. People who get disrespected don't spend money for this disrespect.

My only problem with Rey as a character is that she's just too serious. She never even tries to crack a joke or a quip or I don't even think she's cracked a smile ONCE. Even Qui-Gon Jinn, as serious as he was, was a warmer character than Rey.

So my 9 year old son and I are both really into star wars. We went to see the last Jedi toghether. At the end of the movie, my son turned to me and said "what the hell was that dad?" Even a 9 year old saw how horrible the movie was. He is legit mad at what the movie turned out to be.

Hi, woman here. I adore Star Wars -- all the good-to-decent Star Wars media before Disney bought it out. Currently still going through the old EU, and play KOTOR, SWBF2 (2005), and Jedi Academy once a year. I love Star Trek too, though not as much as SW-- I've most of the original, TNG, Voyager, and DS9 especially. Wasn't too in to Enterprise, though. Sci find and Sci-fi fantasy are literally my two favorite genres in any/all media. Got into this stuff because of my dad. What I'm saying here is please don't make sweeping generalizations. Female fans of Star Wars exist. And yes I hate SJW Star Wars. Subsituting your story for an agenda and forced diversity never works well.

But then, by not selling the bulk of their product, the _toy stores_ lost a ton of money; they never made their investment back. I work at Meijer's as a cashier. Every day I go in, I pass the toy section of the store and see dolls, swords, Nerf guns, and an entire wall dedicated to Star Wars merchandise. Scratch that--TWO WALLS! And at no time at all in any day I've been at the register has a customer ever come up to buy a Star Wars related toy, or book, or clothing! The only things they ever buy with Star Wars on it is the pre-made salad bags with Kylo Ren stamped on the front, glaring at me. I don't know whether to laugh my ass off while getting shit-faced drunk, or crying miserably over the fate of my favorite sci-fi franchise ever...again, while getting shit-faced drunk! I remember approaching and asking a question to one seller of SW figures, who had loads of Finns, Reys and so on. To satisfy my curiosity I asked if he has any Darth Revan figures (I already had one). He said that they are all sold out :D

The baddie Vader! Momma said "you can wait till you get home to open it" God it killed me! But damn the smell of the plastic when i finally opened it! The sweetest rush, never duplicated! I work for a certain billion dollar 💵 retailer that will remain unnamed. First of all, Disney is insanely strict about the amount of space allotted for their stuff, and what needs to happen to anything with a Star Wars related image on it...More on that later... We have been left with a huge amount of TLJ merchandise that didn’t sell for quite some time. We did okay on Force Friday but once the movie came out NOTHING sells. I believe we still have most of the same Forces Of Destiny dolls that we originally had months ago, all clearanced out! The Propel drones (that are actually kind of cool that I own 1 of), are down to their last markdown before they go salvage! Most of this stuff will literally be trashed. Not even our shoplifters want it!!! Nobody wants this stuff. Nobody wants the lightsabers. Nobody wants the Black Series peg warmers. Nobody wants anything Rey, Rose, Kylo Ren... ...So about the previously mentioned Disney/SW promo signs, displays, LEGO sets, etc. All that stuff is supposed to be trashed but I found it gives me great satisfaction to take these items and sell them to the nerds that actually think they’re getting something special! I love the OT and I still but some of the cooler OT Hot Toys from Japan but the stuff stateside is absolute garbage! I love it when I see the Black Series figures on eBay for $50+ dollars, WTF? When Ben Skywalker (Luke's son) was winning, those a-holes just decided to ignore the vote. That's because people who read books like Jaina more than Rey, and Ben Skywalker more than Ben Solo, and Revan simply kicks ass, and they are part of great stories, unlike new half-assed characters.
I'm pretty big into collecting SW ships and vehicles and to be honest, with the exception of the Tie Silencer there are no memorable vehicles in TLJ. Star Wars ships are a big part of the movies and these new vehicles are all just rehashed or unremarkable
Frank the NOOB. yup. I got the Hot Wheels Silencer but nothing else from the movie. I still pick up some of the vehicles from the older movies and when I see a character I am interested in in the Black Series, I get it. Doesn't happen often though because the shelf warmers take up space. I almost missed Commander Gree due to that. He was the last character I got. The little figures are worthless. Nowhere as good as the ones available when ROTS was out but just as expensive. The really expensive stuff I don't even bother with.
They made a big thing about those 'salt speeders' (or whatever they're called) in the trailers etc. But they were absolutely useless and that battle scene was pointless. The speeders set off towards the walkers, then promptly turned around and gave up. Then Rose crashed into Finn and... ahh, it's depressing just to talk about. lol

I feel like the superhero Marvel movies are the SW for this generation. We had SW, they have Avengers. Of course, there are kids who love SW but not as many as say 20 years ago. On top of that this awkward Disney push toward women certainly isn't helping the brand.

I have to say I don't think it's only Disney Star Wars fault these don't sell. It's the fact that they are overpriced as hell. As someone who was a Lego enthusiast as a kid and now only somewhat still interested in it, They were always pricey as hell. Want a spider walker with 3 figures? Well that's 40 bucks please. However don't get me wrong it's also because nobody wants these toys to begin with but the price doesn't make it any better which was my point.
Before Disney, a vintage collection figure would cost me between $13-15... now it's $15 for a 5poa, and $25 for something similar to the vintage collection, and $39 for the 6inch version.

I remember the phantom menace came out and I was a kid, i ended up obsessed with star wars! I wanted all the toys, especially amidala, since I'm a girl. I really liked how pretty she was. And the toys were brightly colored and fun and the worlds in the movie were incredible! What is appealing about the new trilogy? What's fun for kids other than porgs?
The problen is that George Lucas did all what he did because he wanted to tell stories, even if people liked them or not, I grew with the prequels and they had something new to bring, as you said awesome planets, more interesting characters, new ships. But Disney went straight to get $$$ all the "alien planets" are the same as the old trilogy (same as ships) and the new ones are like landscapes you see on Earth. I remember when episode 3 came even before it did, ALL the toys were sold, I couldnt even get the one I wanted, but thats the difference, the reason why you do something, 1) because you like it, or 2) you just want to get money of it. And these unsold toys are the perfect example.

On topic, none of these toys excite me at all. None of these characters excite me either. I shelled out good money for a Darth Revan Black Series figure because it was Darth FUCKING Revan! One of the most badass Star Wars characters of all time. I want to find a Dooku one too and I hope they make a Mara Jade and General Grievous figure too because I would buy both in a heart beat. Those characters were awesome because they actually did something that affected the Star Wars universe. All of the new characters are just bland and designed to appeal to a wide audience in the hopes that people will like them...and it is not working.

Arrow Valley nope. Force Awakens and Last Jedi were both taken from George Lucas's ideas. He came up with a young orphan girl with Force powers, although he named her Kira, JJ changed it to Rey. Lucas's idea to have Luke as a hermit who abandoned the Jedi way and be an outcaste on an island after one of his pupils betrays him. His idea to have a downfall of Jedi temples. He was very much involved at the beginning to set story ideas out. Even though Disney rejected his other ideas, they used his main stuff.

My toys r us sold almost nothing. I asked and apparently the legos sell but nothing else. Walmart sold jack diddly and everything is on discount. Kroger you can get a shirt or hat for $3 and figures for under $5 And its all been shoved into a spot on The discount aisle.
Yeah, lego sells great because the other junk has has inflated to its price range and big Lego kits always include a handful of figures. The hasbro(ken) tie silencer is $50 and has one fig. The lego one is bigger, $80(often $64 on normal discount) and includes ren plus a tie pilot, a bb-9e, and a stormtrooper.
I think the price is the main reason toys (in general) are not selling well. 150$ are you kidding me! I was a kid when ep 3 came out and i got TWO jedi starfighters for 50$ for 30$ more i got some droid starfighters and was able to have a entire space battle in my room. Now a days a entire battle would cost like.....600$!

The biggest trouble that Disney Star Wars has is that almost no one can relate to these new characters, aside from feminists going for Rey, but Princess Leia from the OT is a better character by far, so fans would only go to these films to see the original characters, but if they keep killing them off and making the new characters stand out above the original characters, then nobody is going to want to see these new SJW films.

The movies are good. THE figures are cheap, poorly made. Problem is, nerds still buying that crap, that's why they will never improve the quality of the figures. It's that simple.
I'm so fucking depressed, the sad thing is this trilogy didn't have to be this bad. The problem with the movie is that no one had the passion to make a movie. People were just cruising through their work day when they were writing the script because their boss told them they had to write a script. Force Awakens copied the beats from A New Hope without understanding why those beats were in A New Hope and the purpose they were supposed to serve and thus failed because of it.

In a far distance I saw a family of four searching through the Star Wars Forces of Forced Diversity dolls, and the girl whom they were buying the doll for, just wanted Chewbacca. I remember the little girl clearly telling the parents "I want the chewbacca one!" The parents offered her to get Rey, Jyn, and Leia, but ultimately the girl walked away with a Chewbacca doll. The main issue is the main fan base of star wars is boy's 8-12 years old. By focusing on making star wars nice for girls, they forgot to cater to their target audience. I am a new father and have taken my son over to play with other families and one thing I have noticed. Homes with boy's tend to be dominated by super hero's of all types. Homes of little girls are explosions of pink and pastels.
Missing are massive troves of star wars toys maybe a light saber here or there. I bought my friends little 8 year old boy a lego X-wing and TIE fighter (the smaller bag versions) and much to my surprise they totally flopped. As it turned out Disney has found a formula to make something neither appealing to little boy's or little girls. Little Boy's don't associate with strong willed magic 19 year old women, and little girls like catchy songs and pretty dresses (let it go! let it go!, frozen refuses to die in some house holds )

I agree that boys don't usually like to play with toys of women. I can speak for myself because I didn't play with any when I was a kid. The only exceptions I can remember were the yellow and pink Power Rangers. And it was mainly because the Power Rangers were a team, so I had to get all six of them, you know?

I can tell you a few reasons why this is not moving. The main reason is that Disney inadvertently and deliberately alienated the hard core fans who have the money and inclination to buy this sort of stuff and catered to the casual fans and general audiences who generally do not. The hard core fans wanted to see the new republic on the rise, the empire in retreat and Luke training jedi and being a hero and a mentor. They wanted the EU in, clone wars maintained, LA not EA making the games, and did not want the rebels etc shows. By damaging Han's character and destroying Luke's Disney, KK, and RJ really turned a lot of folks off. Also KK made the mistake of catering to the sensitivities of some fools bu weakening the GE character. They should have left her more petulant and ballsy. KK should have left RO dark and character driven. Disney has made wrong decisions, logically, thematically, historically, and morally by the standards of those who know and value SW. In so doing they have trashed the collectible and memorabilia and resale markets that are run by exactly the sort of middle-aged middle class white men with $100,000's that Disney and KK deliberately disregarded, disrespected, outright insulted, alienated, and drove away.

My only problem with Rey as a character is that she's just too serious. She never even tries to crack a joke or a quip or I don't even think she's cracked a smile ONCE. Even Qui-Gon Jinn, as serious as he was, was a warmer character than Rey.

The main new characters aren't that bad imo, but the plot and themes are all over the place.
Kill is interesting but at the same time his motives make no sense, smoke and hux's actions make no sense. TFA was boring and TLJ made no sense and was bloated The cantobitemyass scene was crap, they cared more for horses than slaves. And rose is shit all around,who is she to harm scared people , even war hero's, trying to leave.

Hi, woman here. I adore Star Wars -- all the good-to-decent Star Wars media before Disney bought it out. Currently still going through the old EU, and play KOTOR, SWBF2 (2005), and Jedi Academy once a year.
I love Star Trek too, though not as much as SW-- I've most of the original, TNG, Voyager, and DS9 especially. Wasn't too in to Enterprise, though.

Scratch that--TWO WALLS! And at no time at all in any day I've been at the register has a customer ever come up to buy a Star Wars related toy, or book, or clothing! I can tell you a few reasons why these items are not moving. The main reason is that Disney inadvertantly and deliberately alienated the hard core fans who have the money and inclination to buy this sort of stuff and catered to the casual fans and general audiences who generally do not. The hard core fans wanted to see the new republic on the rise, the empire in retreat and Luke training jedi and being a hero and a mentor. They wanted the EU in, clone wars maintained, LA not EA making the games, and did not want the rebels etc shows. By damaging Han's character and destroying Luke's Disney, KK, and RJ really turned a lot of folks off. Also KK made the mistake of catering to the sensitivities of some fools bu weakening the GE character. They should have left her more petulant and ballsy. KK should have left RO dark and character driven. Disney has made wrong decisions, logically, thematically, historically, and morally by the standards of those who know and value SW. In so doing they have trashed the collectible and memorabilia and resale markets that are run by exactly the sort of middle-aged middle class white men with $100,000's that Disney and KK deliberately disregarded, disrespected, outright insulted, alienated, and drove away.
Can we dump all of that on Kathleen Kennedy's doorstep, or would that upset Earth's mass distribution too much?

I work for a certain billion dollar 💵 retailer that will remain unnamed. First of all, Disney is insanely strict about the amount of space allotted for their stuff, and what needs to happen to anything with a Star Wars related image on it...More on that later...
We have been left with a huge amount of TLJ merchandise that didn’t sell for quite some time. We did okay on Force Friday but once the movie came out NOTHING sells. I believe we still have most of the same Forces Of Destiny dolls that we originally had months ago, all clearanced out! The Propel drones (that are actually kind of cool that I own 1 of), are down to their last markdown before they go salvage! Most of this stuff will literally be trashed. Not even our shoplifters want it!!!

Because most of Prequels characters look interesting, unlike new ones. Would you rather have a figure of ginger dude Hux, or tattooed Zabraak Darth Maul? Emo Ren or Kaleesh cyborg Grievous? Easy choice. Even freaking Nute Gunray looks interesting and is an alien in a bigger role (antagonist of Ep.1) something that new films are lacking (having only Maz and Snoke who's dead now and looked just like a deformed human).
Old characters who were just humans like protagonists, or Mace, Tarkin, Dooku and such, commanded respect and were badass, while new human characters suck. Hux is a Spaceballs reject.
Same for EU/Legends figures. Darth Revan and Jaina Solo (daughter of Han and Leia) won fan's choice, so they were made. When Ben Skywalker (Luke's son) was winning, those a-holes just decided to ignore the vote. That's because people who read books like Jaina more than Rey, and Ben Skywalker more than Ben Solo, and Revan simply kicks ass, and they are part of great stories, unlike new half-assed characters.

I'm pretty big into collecting SW ships and vehicles and to be honest, with the exception of the Tie Silencer there are no memorable vehicles in TLJ. Star Wars ships are a big part of the movies and these new vehicles are all just rehashed or unremarkable

I still pick up some of the vehicles from the older movies and when I see a character I am interested in in the Black Series, I get it. Doesn't happen often though because the shelf warmers take up space. I almost missed Commander Gree due to that. He was the last character I got. The little figures are worthless. Nowhere as good as the ones available when ROTS was out but just as expensive. The really expensive stuff I don't even bother with.
They made a big thing about those 'salt speeders' (or whatever they're called) in the trailers etc. But they were absolutely useless and that battle scene was pointless. The speeders set off towards the walkers, then promptly turned around and gave up. Then Rose crashed into Finn and... ahh, it's depressing just to talk about. lol
The Tie Silencer, although it's basically a kitbashed Tie Interceptor and Sith Infiltrator, was the only thing I ended up getting.

I bought quite a few things for TFA because I thought the direction was solid - TLJ made me regret purchases I made for the new movie and has made me agree to never buy anything from the new Disney movies unless it's an OT or PT character like Boba Fett, Han Solo, Anakin, etc.

I remember the phantom menace came out and I was a kid, i ended up obsessed with star wars! I wanted all the toys, especially amidala, since I'm a girl. I really liked how pretty she was. And the toys were brightly colored and fun and the worlds in the movie were incredible! What is appealing about the new trilogy? What's fun for kids other than porgs?
The problen is that George Lucas did all what he did because he wanted to tell stories, even if people liked them or not, I grew with the prequels and they had something new to bring, as you said awesome planets, more interesting characters, new ships.
But Disney went straight to get $$$ all the "alien planets" are the same as the old trilogy (same as ships) and the new ones are like landscapes you see on Earth.
I remember when episode 3 came even before it did, ALL the toys were sold, I couldnt even get the one I wanted, but thats the difference, the reason why you do something, 1) because you like it, or 2) you just want to get money of it. And these unsold toys are the perfect example.
Poor Merchandise sales will also help to kill off Doctor Who over the next few years.

The only girl action figures I wanted to play with when I was little were Storm from the X-Men and Telia from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. That's because I thought the characters were cool.

On topic, none of these toys excite me at all. None of these characters excite me either. I shelled out good money for a Darth Revan Black Series figure because it was Darth FUCKING Revan! One of the most badass Star Wars characters of all time. I want to find a Dooku one too and I hope they make a Mara Jade and General Grievous figure too because I would buy both in a heart beat. Those characters were awesome because they actually did something that affected the Star Wars universe. All of the new characters are just bland and designed to appeal to a wide audience in the hopes that people will like them...and it is not working.

Arrow Valley nope. Force Awakens and Last Jedi were both taken from George Lucas's ideas. He came up with a young orphan girl with Force powers, although he named her Kira, JJ changed it to Rey. Lucas's idea to have Luke as a hermit who abandoned the Jedi way and be an outcaste on an island after one of his pupils betrays him. His idea to have a downfall of Jedi temples. He was very much involved at the beginning to set story ideas out. Even though Disney rejected his other ideas, they used his main stuff.

My toys r us sold almost nothing. I asked and apparently the legos sell but nothing else. Walmart sold jack diddly and everything is on discount. Kroger you can get a shirt or hat for $3 and figures for under $5 And its all been shoved into a spot on The discount aisle.
Yeah, lego sells great because the other junk has has inflated to its price range and big Lego kits always include a handful of figures. The hasbro(ken) tie silencer is $50 and has one fig. The lego one is bigger, $80(often $64 on normal discount) and includes ren plus a tie pilot, a bb-9e, and a stormtrooper.

I think the price is the main reason toys (in general) are not selling well. 150$ are you kidding me! I was a kid when ep 3 came out and i got TWO jedi starfighters for 50$ for 30$ more i got some droid starfighters and was able to have a entire space battle in my room. Now a days a entire battle would cost like.....600$!
The lego parts are mix and match and one can use the components to assemble edifices to the design templates of one's own devising.

The biggest trouble that Disney Star Wars has is that almost no one can relate to these new characters, aside from feminists going for Rey, but Princess Leia from the OT is a better character by far, so fans would only go to these films to see the original characters, but if they keep killing them off and making the new characters stand out above the original characters, then nobody is going to want to see these new SJW films.
Do you ever feel your heart break as see the franchise you grew up with slowly rot away and go senile ? I remember begging my dad to take me to the toy aisle and to by the newest clone trooper (I was born in 2000 and I latched onto the prequels). Now, I intentionally avoid the Star Wars aisle because it feels like I’m looking at a shell of a former idol.
All things have to die, why, (OT but relevant in light of it) I loved Pokemon and Mario/Nintendo, (playing the first three generations of Pokemon and Mario on the N64) though seeing what they are nowadays in light of their golden era is saddening (There was a time when Mario's name was everywhere and Mario merchandise out your arse, likewise with Pokemon) now there is next to no merchandise (especially of Mario) and Pokemon is now too complex though I was born in 1990.
Even though Grievous was an underplayed character in the movie, this man still got hella character development and his overall design from the movie and cartoons was enough to make him a favorite of so many. These new characters ( especially Rose) have nothing to develop. They’re lame as fuck
