I disagree. As a Brazilian - also Latin American - we would say "I dont care" as "eu nao me importo" or "nao me importa". Both are interchangeable without affecting the message. The problem I see with some people that likes gramsci's ideas is that they think they apply to then-current ruling class, when in fact they describe what any ruling class would do while ruling, even blue-collar workers themselves

As a Brazilian - also Latin American - we would say "I dont care" as "eu nao me importo" or "nao me importa". Both are interchangeable without affecting the message. I disagree that the English language reflects a sense of individualism. Furthermore, as a native speaker of Portuguese, I absolutely oppose to the idea that Latin American peoples are less self-centered. Just look at the importance Latin Americans place in volunteering their free time and resources to help others versus the time and effort that Americans devote to volunteer work.
