The door on the trap has too much of a gap. In comparison of this trap to the boar buster it wouldn't be as effective as the boar buster. However the concept is good.

The young'uns, sure, but the adolescents and adults with the exception of the matriarch? Also (and this might have something to do with my lack of familiarity with that part of Texas), was that corn soured? Or are deer not plentiful up that way?
