I’ve had the Wolfmix for about 6 weeks and and beyond happy with it. It’s actually my first foray into DMX controllers and have to say that this unit makes even a DMX novice like myself comfortable in setting it up and using it during events.
We've been using it for about a year now. We LOVE it. I come from a 20+ year production touring background, someone that is well versed with a Road Hog Lighting Console, and these little Wolfmix's pack a punch. I made about 10 presets, and just adjust speed, color, etc live depending on the song. I use them in conjuction with wireless Donners. Zero issues.
I have been using this for about 5 months now. Loved that it’s perfect for any one that has an intermediate knowledge of dmx or in the process of learning and wants that extra control. Been recommending the unit to other DJs who don’t wanna carry an extra laptop or have issues with tablet systems
I have mine 5 months quick and simple set up, no pc or software to carry . I use uplights, light bars, adj focus spot2x and having 2 universes is great. Your review is honest thank you.
I bought one of these the week they became available in the states. It’s incredible! It’s so stable and has sooo many options to create epic light shows and scenes
I love my WMX1. I have most of my projects include all my fixtures. Moving heads, uplights, Wash lights…. The difference is the number of moving heads. My projects are 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 moving heads. I do have an uplighting only project as well. You can have unlimited projects stored in your cloud, just 6 at a time on the controller. If you have multiple setups with the same fixtures, you can share projects with other DJs or other controllers. It’s really bad ass! Thanks for the video!
Wolfmix is really good. I preordered it last year and have been using it since day one of it being available. I transitioned from software with a dongle. While I keep that software up to date, just in case, I haven’t needed it at all. I keep it up to date because I just still can’t believe this Wolfmix can do it all, but I am over a year in and haven’t needed the software. I should just finally believe!
I’m interested to see how you’re taking advantage of this controller’s way of working and how it has changed the way you’re looking at DMX programming. The preset FX settings for color, move, and beams seem they provide enough flexibility to serve as the foundation for programming. I’ll be watching to see how you combine presets, live edits, and groups to generate a flexible show that is easy to “perform” live using the pads. That seems to be really one of the keys to being “good” at this controller is figuring out ways to use the pads to let you effectively perform with it.
Yes totally. I will be recording a bunch of content and sharing it here on the channel. I feel that I spent a good amount of time learning this controller and love what it can do using preset shows and additionally shifting them with presets etc. So much to come, thank you for supporting the channel. #wmx1
You are the greatest salesman ever! I usually spend endless amounts of time, researching gear, but you had me sold before the end of your video. I just purchased a WMX1 unit & case from your Amazon links. You should consider selling real estate to famous people! :D Your enthusiasm is contagious!
Yeah… that dark background and his face as the focus catches your attention. Dude looks like he’s really into the product. Good video. I want to get back into DMX. I have 14 wireless, battery-power uplights and 4 Martin SCX700’s. I want only uplights, two movers on my 6ft. totem trusses and maybe two light bars (no more Martins due to their weight) for my DJ setup. I’m wondering if this Wolfmix or the Soundswitch would be better for me.
I have been using the wmx1 for 2 months now. Only way I’ll be going back to a laptop for lighting is if it quits working. I love it and gonna buy another one.
It's been a year and it is save me time and effort with dmx. As long you take the time to set up shows it's perfect. As a single op I need easy to plug n play.
Hey Jason! I would love to chat with you and pick your brain a bit about dmx lights and connections/addresses. Thank you so much for this video! Just ordered one.
I have also added the Chauvet D-Fi Wireless Hub to the Wolfmix. It allows for wireless DMX controls of my lighting without running DMX cables everywhere
Hi jason, one tip concerning the wolfmix is you can plug a usb battery and be able totally free to move around the dancefloor to adjust your lights. Sometimes, I would like faders instead of rotary knobs but maybe wolfmix is already working on an additional equipment to complete the setup. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with great videos. peace.
Totally - that is how i was programming them in my warehouse… it’s cool bc you can move around and i used a jackery. You can add sliders to the mix with the wlink and extend the capabilities of the unit itself!
Hey brother! Not sure what others use but I’ve found my Adj operator 384 to be more than sufficient for fader control. No need to spend a ton, as you’ll only be using the main bank 8+1 on bank 2 for master fade. Plus it can be used for the smoke machine if you’re like me and using an older vf1300 which is tailor made for the 384. Use the faders, it changes everything.
While I’ve already found certain limitations, like having to create live edits to access split color and other DMX inputs higher in value than the “first ten” it allows for quick adjustment, it’s proving to be an incredibly versatile piece of hardware. I’m using a vf1300 though so I have that wired to my operator 384 for a more nuanced control.
I should add I’m running the 384 with Wlink and am obsessed. Having fader control and being able to use them to create live edits that can blackout is unparalleled. If you have any thoughts about spending the additional $50, just do it. Again, my only gripe is being limited on quick access controls. It’s a silly gripe, but I had to choose something! This tiny dude is so good otherwise.
You are right, when I started using it I made it more difficult than it is. Once it clicked it's the easiest controller to use. Building fixture was the hardest until it wasn't, the adj wf1 has a simple way of building fixtures I just had to find it by spending a day playing with the wm1.
Jason, I’m interested in this but all of the information out there about the WMX that I have seen really focus on manual show setup, scripting and user data input. I’m not sure if that is because the unit is incapable of producing quality automated shows or scripting to the track. But can you focus a review on its auto features from the perspective of a DJ who wants to use simple lighting, Uplights, wash has fx (x2) and some tubes. With little user input…. Plug and play. Thanks in advance.
To be candid, if you don’t want to do any of the work you will only get basic or very generic results with any controller or automations unless you pay someone to do it for you. I am a firm believer you get what you put into anything and even if you are using basic fixtures you still can make them do some cool stuff with this controller. There are a number of super Easy to use and quick to set up macros with this. I hope it helps and i have a few videos that may help you with this on deck.
Thanks for the quick reply. Question 2. I wanted to cheat because I’m new to Dmx programming and a little intimidated to jump in. That said, I’m willing. Once you get past the user interface learning curve, is this an intuitive system to program?
@@StreamlineEntertainment The curve with this peice of gear is significantly less then using anythiing I have found anywhere if that helps you. Hey Jason, thanks for the video & positivity about this unit. I’ve never used DMX in my life. But I recently bought 20 BothLighting uplights and have been controlling them with their app so far and I am frustrated with the app. It only seems to work half the time. Definitely not reliable, so I need something that will allow me to relax knowing that I’m in good hands. I also use a Chauvet Wash FX Hex for my dance lighting. I would like to add that into the WMX1 as well. But initially interested in buying this for my uplighting strictly on reliability. Will I need anything additional to go between the unit and the uplights, like a dongle to transmit signal? TIA!
Jason, have you tried Sound Switch before and if so, how do they compare? Also, does it have something that allows an automatically created show like Soundswitch does with Autoscripting? I was looking at buying one of them. Thanks for the great vid!

Been using it for six months myself. In the beginning, I wasn’t really impressed. The more I used it, the more it grew on me. I love that I don’t need a separate computer or sacrifice RAM on my DJ computer to run software in the background. I wish their were more groups and projects available per universe. The visualization program is nowhere near worth the $100 I paid for it. I still prefer to actually set up the lights to actually see the true result of presets and live edits.
Do you find it to be more user-friendly than sound switch especially for mobile DJs? Have you tried the RB-DMX1 which runs directly along with the record box software? Thanks for the review!
I have not played with sound switch bc I feel like it is solely good for uplights only, and not my speed in terms of control. I like to be able to control the look and I do not want a controller to automate anything on bpm, but that is me - I think this controller gives you a ton of more options and control then SS.
You're.roght in everything you said but the visualiser is something else. Build a room with the fixtures in places you wish and you can build a show without plugging in a light. I've done this so many times already. I've never had an issue when I do plug in the lights at a venue You don't have to change an address of a light if it's been placed in the wrong place. You can just move it in the adj wm1 and it's done. This is one of many time saving things this hardware does. But best of all its small and you don't need a computer when you do a gig. I never thought this unit did so much and I'm still finding things to do that improve my lighting.
I have just bought myself a sound switch DMX controller. It sounded like it was going to be quite a good piece of equipment because it actually analyses tracks from Serato using AI and creates lighting scenes based on the track analysis. Unfortunately it is an absolute crock of crap and useless. The software constantly crashes and it isn’t my computer not being up to spec either because I can play all in the latest game releases perfectly fine in fact I can do a lot of things that use high intense CPU and GPU , percentages 🤯 🙄 So this is the lighting controller I will be buying after returning the sound switch. I had a funny feeling it wasn’t going to be much good for the low price and I was looking at the WM one first. I should’ve gone with my gut feeling.
who needs 3500 fixtures in memory ?? your are paying for hardware that you do not need ( extra memory ) , 20 light slots that can be customized for your particular DMX setup it is sufficient, and a price tag around 199, at 550+ USD is not too much for the weekend warrior DJ, QLC or Freestyler and your DMX King DMX usb interface and some old laptop you have there collecting dust and you are golden for less than 150 bucks.
Great review! Thanks Jason.

It hs a mic and you can tap beats if needed, and you can set the bpm, but I would never run my lighting with anything using beat sync myself.
Super cool. I’m still working on the visualizer and stuff but i will post and share when i get thwre
It’s better than sound switch my a mile
I have just bought myself a sound switch DMX controller. It sounded like it was going to be quite a good piece of equipment because it actually analyses tracks from Serato using AI and creates lighting scenes based on the track analysis.
Unfortunately it is an absolute crock of crap and useless. The software constantly crashes and it isn’t my computer not being up to spec either because I can play all in the latest game releases perfectly fine in fact I can do a lot of things that use high intense CPU and GPU , percentages 🤯 🙄
So this is the lighting controller I will be buying after returning the sound switch.
YOU GO AHEAD AND DO THAT LOL
