You guys for sure got the right voices for the characters down. I want to play this Star Ocean. Please let it come out for USA this year. I want to play it so badly right now.

+J Credo i was very forgiving of the english VA and after so many hours of playing it was just something that became part of the SO4 experience and it stopped bothering me. Except for Lymle... every time she would talk, i would either mute her or skip it. usually ill keep it on the Japenese voices but for some reason I loved Welch's english VA haha it was just so over the top and awesome!
I hope they use the true battle skill names and not some of really bad localized ones in Star Ocean 3 & 4 like Fist/Claws of Fury. Most of the of them are already in English so I don't see why it has to be changed.
This series is one of the only anime styled games (besides Namco Bandai) that actually put some effort in. It's refreshing after the barrage of anime shovel-ware that comes out like every week.

The english voices are good. I just don't know if lip sync was showed in this trailer or the audio doesn't have anything to do with what's being shown, because that's what it looks like. So if they won't remake lip animations, they should include the option for original, japanese voices with english subtitles. P.S.: Really no PS3 version in the west?
+octapusxft It will likely be dual audio. The only time it won't be if the game is too big that the storage disc can't have both audio files like what will happen to the West release of FFXV.
octapusxft They'll need to completely alter the settings menu if that were the happen. If it were merely English voices all they simply just replace the Japanese audio with the English one. But if its dual audio they have change the menu for you to toggle between the between them.

+Shuichi Akai It is probably a console exclusive. Maybe in the future they may port it. After all Square Enix is porting a lot of older games (mostly Final Fantasy franchise) to PC right now. If that is successful they will probably port more things over.

The voices are... acceptable. They have the same feel and tone as the SO3 and SO4 but they sound much more natural in this trailer. It feels like they just kind of spliced a bunch of different lines together so you can hear everyone talk but i will need to see more to be convinced that the voice acting will be all around better, or if they just spliced the best sounding lines together in the trailer to satisfy us. Either way i am super excited!!! ive played SO4 for over 400 hours and had multiple play through's despite the VA's( its to the point where the bad voicing doesn't even make me mad, its just kind of endearing haha. its just another quirk to the game that makes me smile during my play through ) so I will love and play this new one regardless. I just hope the over all VAs wont make me cringe at crucial story moments.

Giordan Diodato It has simpler gameplay than 3, the story goes from somewhat interesting to completely clichéd nonsense, the characters are a mixed bag ranging from okay to insufferable and embarrassing and none of them are cool or interesting. The VA can be pretty bad at times too, but it's not the game's biggest problem by any means and Lymle and her catchphrase are by far not the worst the game has to offer. It's a decent, fun game regardless, no doubt, with great music and gorgeous environments, but it makes a mockery of the series and it's just nowhere nearly as good as the rest. It was disappointing. A shame.

+Tidus0203 Because Square Enix back then focused on the Western market. SO4's characters and story were designed for that demographic in mind which is why it ended up very lackluster. Seeing the game failed on the 360 they released in on the PS3 the following year to make up on sales. A shame you won't buy anything Sony as you'll be missing out on almost every JRPG and a lot of other great games for this console generation.

The English voices sound decent this time except maybe Emmerson and Relia who don't sound their age. Emmerson is 41 yet he sounds like he's in his twenties while Relia sounds like a teenager though is 12.

Definately sounds alot better than the last game... while japanese still sounds better, I think I'll play this one in English again. I grew up on japanese games with bad/semi good dub, including star ocean 3, it has its charms to me.
As one who has played the entire series, I have to say this trailer has left me with a good feeling for the rest of the game's dub. I notice a lot of people hating on Last Hope's dub (as usual), but the fault with that game wasn't the voice actors; it was the script. Switching to the Japanese voices for LH didn't change a thing. The cast sounded so anime-generic and they were essentially saying the same things in Japanese. Last Hope was a lost cause in a lot of ways and the fault can hardly be thrown on the English dub's voice talent, so please stop blaming them as the sole reason the game was terrible.

Hunter McKenzie Austin is very talented, and I loved her work in Valkyrie Profile Silmeria as well as being the newest dub voice for Lei Lei from Darkstalkers. Let's not forget Travis Willingham's performance as Bacchus, Laura Bailey splitting her time between being Reimi and Welch (which was awesome) and Carrie Savage sounded obnoxiously cute as Meracle. We had a pretty damn talented voice crew going into the game's dub. It was just a wasted opportunity due to the awkwardness of the whole script.
The voices sound great. In fact, this whole game looks pretty great. But you know what other game looks pretty great? Final Fantasy XV. Let's hear some more about that eh?
+Movie Mercs Despite Grandia 3 had the best battle system in the series and arguably on of the best in JRPGs it didn't sell well. Game Arts will have to do a lot of convincing if they want Square Enix to fund them for a sequel.
After the (mostly) horrible voice acting in Star Ocean 4 i'm REALLY happy that SO5 seems to be vastly improved in that regard. I was pleasantly surprised by how great they all sound in the trailer. So even if there it turns out there is no option for the original japanese voices i'll be able to enjoy the game to its fullest without cringing every time someone opens their mouth. :p

bumbayker The localizing is being done by 8-4, and since they cut dialog out of Gunvolt and added Tumblrisms. I still look at this bleakly. Even though Treehouse is far worse and I still say Nich should be fire for bastardizing Fire Emblem or take a serious cut in his pay.

+Malkaking What lack of context are you talking about? They're releasing the complete game from the get go. This isn't like Star Ocean 4 which was first released on the Xbox 360. Star Ocean 5 is PS3/PS4 exclusive and won't have an international edition since will be released in both NA and Europe.
I would say that the trailer was just awkward. A lot of that dialogue had no context., i also have a major disdain for dubs soo ill just buy the Japanese version and stick with that i guess if no international version
+Malkaking I have no idea what you're getting at as it's the exact same trailer as the Japanese one only the dialogue and text are in English. They just showed small portions of the story to give a glimpse of the premise but it doesn't mean it lacks context. What I meant there won't be an international version is it won't be ported to any other platform or console like what happened with SO4. Since this is on the PS4 expect the NA and EU releases to be dual audio.
The dub is actually not too bad, but that could be that I didn't have high expectations after SO4's disaster of a dub Also, for some reason I get kind of emotional near the end when Fidel talks to Relia; I just get the sense it will be a very tender relationship between them.

We had a pretty damn talented voice crew going into the game's dub. It was just a wasted opportunity due to the awkwardness of the whole script.

+Movie Mercs Despite Grandia 3 had the best battle system in the series and arguably on of the best in JRPGs it didn't sell well. Game Arts will have to do a lot of convincing if they want Square Enix to fund them for a sequel.

After the (mostly) horrible voice acting in Star Ocean 4 i'm REALLY happy that SO5 seems to be vastly improved in that regard. I was pleasantly surprised by how great they all sound in the trailer.
So even if there it turns out there is no option for the original japanese voices i'll be able to enjoy the game to its fullest without cringing every time someone opens their mouth. :p

+Giordan Diodato I know, but i played it when it first came out on Xbox. That there was eventually a far superior version with both original voices and better menu art design didn't help me back then. ^^ I might eventually go back to the game and replay it on PS3. But the Xbox version was... bad.

bumbayker The localizing is being done by 8-4, and since they cut dialog out of Gunvolt and added Tumblrisms. I still look at this bleakly. Even though Treehouse is far worse and I still say Nich should be fire for bastardizing Fire Emblem or take a serious cut in his pay.
MaverickhunterXZero How sure are you that 8-4 will be localizing Star Ocean 5? If I'm not mistaken there has been no such announcement they'll be working on it. And after the failure of Star Ocean 4 I don't see why they would them back on the franchise.

+Malkaking What lack of context are you talking about? They're releasing the complete game from the get go. This isn't like Star Ocean 4 which was first released on the Xbox 360. Star Ocean 5 is PS3/PS4 exclusive and won't have an international edition since will be released in both NA and Europe.
I would say that the trailer was just awkward. A lot of that dialogue had no context., i also have a major disdain for dubs soo ill just buy the Japanese version and stick with that i guess if no international version
+Malkaking I have no idea what you're getting at as it's the exact same trailer as the Japanese one only the dialogue and text are in English. They just showed small portions of the story to give a glimpse of the premise but it doesn't mean it lacks context. What I meant there won't be an international version is it won't be ported to any other platform or console like what happened with SO4. Since this is on the PS4 expect the NA and EU releases to be dual audio.

The dub is actually not too bad, but that could be that I didn't have high expectations after SO4's disaster of a dub
Also, for some reason I get kind of emotional near the end when Fidel talks to Relia; I just get the sense it will be a very tender relationship between them.
