    Point of correction: Sailboats "rudder". If the keel was on the dock THAT would be the footage of the year. How that happened either way still amazes me, it MIGHT have drifted over the dock at an exceptionally high tide?

    • @FiferSkipper
      @FiferSkipper 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I came here to mention the same thing about rudder vs keel... but, seriously how did that happen? Was it a travel-lift launch gone wrong? And if so, why didn't they just bring the travel lift back?
      After all those questions, why didn't they just find a way to lift the stern of the boat a little bit? A few jackstands, a few long 4x4s and that stern could have been popped right off the dock without a sledge hammer...

    • @trickflow75

    Working as a boat mechanic in the 90's at a Mom and Pop boat store, that wasn't on the water, I had to trailer boats to the ramp all the time to test them. I always knew, if there was a crowd, that I would have to help somebody, or I wouldn't get mine in the water. I always thought it would be fun to get some beers and set up a chair to watch on a weekend, but I never did it. You have done it for me, Broncos Guru, thanks!

    I had some issues pulling my boat out at the end of this season. The port engine went down, had a stiff port/aft quartering wind, and I was single handing. Watching your vids of what not to do and practicing my low speed handling skills a lot during the season really helped me to stay calm and not damage anything.

      NEXT: Toss the anchor. Cant hit much if the anchor is out. Take your time and refocus.
      STILL HAVING A PROB. Ask someone at the marina to dock it for you. (I have actually done that) No one is going to turn turn a chance to save THEIR boat.

    That "ceram wrap" was actually high strength cling film of the kind used in warehouses around the world to tie together goods on shipping pallets. As long as they use enough of it, it should be just fine.
    I've personally used it on many an occasion, back in my warehouse days, to hold together over half a ton of beer kegs on a pallet. Heck, we used to prank each other with the stuff, and in just a couple wraps, it's strong enough to prevent a grown man from escaping from it. It's some really tough stuff, and probably held that canoe in place as good, if not better than some ratchet straps would have.

    • @user-sx4yu3nw4j

      "As long as they use enough of it, it should be just fine." The same could be said for litereally any material, even something as ridiculous as spider silk, you just need "enough of it." It's still a stupid move. Also, you don't know for sure it was packing-grade plastic wrap or if it was food-grade. I've seen the same rolls in countless restaurants and the two look identical from a distance, but have VERY different tensile strength.

    Sailboat rudder on the dock: The boat itself hasn't got the thrust to do that, but there are two things that do. 1. A really strong wind, such as a hurricane, F3-ish. 2. Another boat we didn't see in the video.

      The tide going down.

    • @chaosopher23
      @chaosopher23 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Kogacarlo The dock we're looking at is a sea wall type dock. It's designed so that the highest tide is still well below its level, 3 or 4 feet. We'd need a short ladder to reach her deck. It's really not even a dock, just a wall you might be able to tie off to. Sailboats that size, unloaded, draft an easy five or six feet. Most likely, Nature did that, but a glancing blow from another boat is still possible. Her sails are all furled, and her best speed under fuel is about 10 knots, so it wasn't self-inflicted. She did float away, so the water there was deep enough. If it was another boat, I hope someone got the ID!

    • @Kogacarlo
      @Kogacarlo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chaosopher23 actually what is hanging in the top right corner? That is another rudder of a boat hanging in a crane. Possibly something went wrong craning the boat. (That's how we say it in Dutch) But I still don't get why they used a hammer to free that vessel. Anyway, it needs a new rudder.

    • @chaosopher23
      @chaosopher23 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kogacarlo "Craning" is a good verb for it, I can't think of another. That little white elephant in the upper right corner you pointed out says it's another boat in queue, and the one going in got craned the wrong way. That explains more than my storm or an errant boat.
      Using a hammer: Either that was the owner, or the owner wasn't around for it.
