Thank you so much for doing this video. I started selling locally in April.. I've found some wonderful people willing to share information in the industry, but no one has helped me with this aspect of selling. I don't want to be limited to my local market. This is a must do step for me to get my full potential in this business. 💛👍
IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE ON ETSY LISTING: I would additionally note "Full shipping charges apply for shipments to Hawaii or Alaska." Because shipping my 140# buffet to the main land of the US ships between $280 - $550. But when I put in Anchorage, that price jumps to $2,262 average and when I put in Hawaii, it jumps up to $3,068 average. Since technically they're part of the USA, if you don't tell them they'll pay full shipping costs for shipping to them, you will lose MEGA bucks shipping it to them after they've bought it with "free shipping."
I watched this earlier today and just want to thank you for being a generous soul and sharing what you have learned with the rest of us! Your work is beautiful and I'm so glad you stayed strong while figuring out how to ship furniture across the country. I can't help but believe your generosity and talent will both take you very far. You deserve it! I was sorry to hear of your panic attacks and other perhaps related health challenges. When I was younger I also suffered from overwhelming panic attacks for about 3 years. I was very lucky in having a loving family who encouraged and supported me. They didn't really understand why I got them, but they always showed me their belief in my ability to overcome this at some point. Because of this, I did my best to talk to myself in a reasonable way whenever the panic would sweep over me; striving to keep it all in some kind of perspective. Eventually my efforts gradually paid off and little by little I was able to regain my self-assurance and independence again. Using small baby-steps at first, gradually regaining a solid belief in myself. In the end, I got back to a very good place-and you will too I'm sure. I wish you all the best in this-and every regard. I'll offer a small suggestion for you to take or leave as you see fit. You might want to consider taking some Magnesium as an everyday supplement. There are several types; Magnesium Glycinate seems to be one of the types that has been of help in addressing anxiety, sleep difficulties and depression WITHOUT having a laxative effect. Just wanted to mention this in case you thought it could be helpful. Whatever your instincts tell you is what you should listen to-as I'm sure you know. I will follow your lovely work with interest. May you know great satisfaction and joy in what you do-
I have been stumped when it came to shipping. Now I can expand beyond Facebook marketplace. Thank you so so much Kacha! This video was needed for so many inspiring furniture artists who are lost about selling and shipping. You are so wonderful. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The way to weigh a dresser is… buy 4 cheap scales and put one under each leg then add all the numbers together. You can measure lots of furniture like that.
Interesting idea, but not sure that tallies by physics rules. That would work better if weight could be isolated by sawing the piece into four pieces to weigh. Gravity does not isolate a quarter of the item you are weighing. Hope it works for you your way.
I have been waiting for someone to explain how to ship using freight - I have been lost for along time - which stalled my selling on my Etsy - thank you -
THANK YOU!! I have sold over 1000 items on etsy, but never furniture. Very intimated about it, like you were. I think i can do it now, such valuable information, thank you again!!!!
What would I do without you in this business, God bless you abundantly-Marlene, you are great and detail and you are understood perfectly. Your real and so amazing to give of what you have gone through
Thank you, thank you. I had no idea where to start on shipping. AS A BONUS - I have contacted a company to find out how much it will cost to ship my granddaughters two trucks from Calif to Oregon - which I would never have had any idea to do without your video. This is worth way more than one coffee,
Thank you thank you thank you for this podcast! I was about to research this shipping issue to get started on Etsy tomorrow. I had been putting this off for awhile and BAM I come across this video 😮😮😮 🎉I love it and I love you Kacha! Sending you lots of love and appreciation ❤🌸🙏
I have to say you always feel you have to explain that English is your second language, but Kacha, you do a great job at explaining -better than many Americans! You and Q from All Shabbed Out who I also follow because she is Amazing! are so giving and so amazing for sharing this great information. Thanks you both soooo much. This is really valuable information and I am so grateful.
Kacha, Kacha, Katcha! Thank you so much for posting this video on shipping! I will probably not be shipping big pieces but I may still be able to use Uship! Thank you for being so generous with your knowledge and information! I will be re-opening my Etsy Shop again in near future and post some refurbished chairs to begin with. Will compare the other shippers too. Looking forward to you packing/shipping video! Am glad someone was able to help and share their knowledge with you! P.S> Look forward to podcast with allshabbedout too. Her work is beautiful too! Gracias!
You are awesome! I have been wanting to flip furniture but one of my worries was not knowing how to ship furniture if it came down to it. I seriously can't thank you enough for making this video. I feel much more confident with this new journey that I want to begin!
If you struggle to sell your pieces I don’t know how other people manage. It is pretty ridiculous how people don’t appreciate the labour and cost of making a piece on fb marketplace. I get annoyed with fb as well.
@Rikki Jo I think the psychology behind the low ball on FB Marketplace is due to people expecting to haggle and make a deal. You'll find all kinds there, but Etsy draws a different crowd, those looking for one of a kind art from all over the country.
I don’t refinish pieces myself, I have in the past for my own use, but I didn’t enjoy the process😀, it’s a lot of labor, and yes, folks are big cheapskates on many of the local online selling platforms like FBMK, OfferUp, Craig’s, Nextdoor. Trouble is, furniture is big, and when folks need to rid of it, they have to give it away or toss it to curb. It’s always abundant for free or cheap that way, no matter how many furniture stores close down, and even if a piece is vintage, repaired and updated in a stylish way, the buyer can’t really grasp how much labor and materials went into the piece by the furniture artist. Well, even if they do, that doesn’t mean they want to pay for what it’s worth!
Aspiring furniture artist are so lucky to be a part of your wonderfulness!! Thank you for being so honest and open with all that you learn. Shipping furniture has always been a mystery....up 'til now. Can't wait for the podcast with All Shabby Out. 😊
Thank you very much for sharing everything you know. You are an inspiration to me. I know the struggle of English as a second language. Thanks tu you I found the courage and the passion to do what I like. I just want to paint furniture.
If you have to buy moving blankets buy them at harbor freight. I would also wash them prior to use, just to be safe. You can then wrap with commercail cling wrap. Good luck.
Kacha, the information you shared is invaluable. I learned a tremendous amount. I am humbled for receiving your knowledge on this. Thank you dear Kacha♥️🙏🏼🌼
Wow! Thank you very much. I have been confused by all the shipping processes but your video has completely changed the way I will ship. Again, thanks, Greg tubbs ( Etsy shop Royal of its kind).
Thanks for sharing so much information. You are remarkably supportive of us furniture artists. I’m excited to hear you did a podcast with Q Uitta. I love her work! She’s amazing!
Thank you so much for posting this video I’ve been eagerly waiting for it. It was so informative like always you are a pleasure to watch so down to earth and so candid.
THANK YOU Kacha! You just gave me what I need! You’re amazing and I love your art❤️After finishing restyle a few more furniture, I will put them on my Etsy shop and now I know what to do for shipping 🙏🏻🥰Thanks again
Thank you so much for sharing this! I was a makeup artist for over 20 years and I was always teaching new artists the things no one wanted to share. I switched to furniture a little over a year ago and I truly appreciate it!! Thank you, thank you! 💗🎨
Kacha, please tell us a couple things: 1) What shipping supplies did you personally provide? Just a movers blanket? Or a pallet, did you have to wrap it in plastic, provide ties to pin it to the pallet, etc? Or did they provide it all? 2) Did the driver come directly to your house!? Or did you have to meet somewhere? 3) Will the driver go directly to the customer's house? Or do they have to meet them somewhere? Thanks! 😊

I am so happy that you have shared this valuable information Kacha. I understood you just fine. I actually got started in furniture flipping because I watched your videos. God bless you always as your business grows.
First I had to pause this right from the start. You are 1000% right about Facebook marketplace. I can’t seem to get even a hit on my pieces, and I’m not even asking for what I deserve for the piece. People just don’t want to pay. So I’m at the point of this video. Starting up an Etsy site. So thanks for doing this video. Now let me continue watching and learn what I can from you! 😂
I have a quick question. If I include the price of shipping in the price of the piece of furniture, how do I know how much to add depending on where I have to ship it? Also, what if someone local wants to buy the piece of furniture and I've already added shipping which I don't need?
i just got bids for a hall table (36" wide x 30" tall x 11" deep). to send it from PA to CA was $800-$1000. i don't even want to think what it would cost to Alaska or Hawaii.
Great video/pod cast! Thank you for sharing. They buy your name do you have to buy it back for profit on their part. They did the same to me. Also every website name you have tried before you decided on your present one. They are buying peoples tried names for resale
Thanks! It always helps to have someone walk through something new for us! I would like to do it for vintage furniture that I didn’t refinish, but still in good shape. The only issue that is possible is a person is not happy with the goods and wants a refund🙁, I’ve done enough online selling to know as soon as the price or shipping gets up there in price, so does the buyer start back peddling. These selling platforms tend to override the sellers claims of “no refunds”, giving refunds to the buyer. Now shipping is a problem in this event. The buyer can complain about that.
Kacha, did u noticed if there is a difference between etsy fees if the shipping cost is separate. As I know, etsy charge for the total product. If u are adding the shipping to the product, the fees will be higher too. Did u check that?? otherwise is better to put shipping and product separately. Let me know if I'm wrong please. Love your tutorials. Thanks for your time.
I think the benefit is for some reason buyers are more apt to purchase if shipping is "free" though. That's the benefit, but he cautious either way when making your decision so you don't get ripped off!
So, I just set up my own Etsy last week! Oooh, I wish I'd waited one more week. Thank you so much for this video, Kacha. The uShip information is priceless. Again, thank you (and Quitta) for taking the time!
