This song hits me hard. A short time ago I lost my friend Larry. We served together in Vietnam, we have been friends since. Towards the end he had lunge cancer and was suffering a lot. It was a blessing when he went, he was so ill.
There are many videos giving voice to pain and suffering that goes with losing special people such as fathers, mothers, siblings, spouses, and so on but as anyone who has ever owned a pet knows losing them hurts too. Thank you to John Barrowman for giving voice to pain of losing a beloved pet. This song was perfect
Today is one year since we lost our beautiful dog who was my dearest friend to cancer. The grief it's as strong now as it was a year ago. You will be with me always in spirit. I hope you are bounding happily through the fields over the rainbow bridge my darling ❤
I've loved this song since Linda Ronstadt first sung it. I've planned on using it at some family funeral through the years, but then when it got right down to it, I chickened out. The words are so moving. The sentiment is so sincere. I'd be a basket case, I am sure. But John sings it beautifully here. :).
Lost a dear friend & neighbor Chuck Foix & that was the 1st time I ever heard this and LOVED it. Bug nobody seemed to know the title or who sang it! Funeral Home only had it listed as "Goodbye" in their selection of music with no artist listed. Years & Years later I finally locate it just by chance. Great Song !!! :-)
The concert was filmed in Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall. This is "An Evening With John Barrowman", the other DVD would be "John Barrowman: Life at the Royal Albert Hall"
Made me whole harder ever say good bye my loved cat. She my world finally got your song really touch me and thx for beautiful song I play along every day I think my Adoreable cat smoothie.
Take care and thank u for all the things you done to us suffering until now, thank you for all your friends that you introduce to us coz I am not here or what I have now.........😭😭😭
Lyrics by Karla Bonoff, 1988(?). Oh we never know where life will take us We know it's just a ride on the wheel And we never know when death will shake us And we wonder how it will feel So goodbye my friend I know I'll never see you again But the time together through all the years Will take away these tears It's O.K. now Goodbye my friend I'd see a lot of things that made me crazy And I guess I held on to you You could've run away and left, well maybe But it wasn't time and we both knew So goodbye my friend I know I'll never see you again But the love you gave me through all the years Will take away my tears I'm O.K. now Goodbye my friend A life so fragile, a love so pure We can't hold on but we try We watch how quickly it disappears And we'll never know why But I'm O.K. now Goodbye my friend You can go now Goodbye my friend.
So sorry for the loss of your precious friend now he has crossed the rainbow Bridge but he is with his furry friends now sending you all my love and thoughts rip and God bless
Not me bawling to this song thinking of my fur babies who crossed the rainbow bridge almost 5 years ago. Now. He was so vulnerable for sharing this pain with us. Such beautiful song though really.
mordsithangel The song wasn't written by John Barrowman, and has nothing to do with cats & dogs except that he dedicated this particular performance of the song to "mans' best friend", because he had just told the audience a story about his dog. A longer version of this clip is available on YT, including the story - it's 7:19 long. The song was written by Karla Bonoff and released on her album in 1988. Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville have also covered it.
Weeping whilst watching this. No friendship like that shared with a dog.

Oh we never know where life will take us
We know it's just a ride on the wheel
And we never know when death will shake us
And we wonder how it will feel
So goodbye my friend
I know I'll never see you again
But the time together through all the years
Will take away these tears
It's O.K. now
Goodbye my friend
I'd see a lot of things that made me crazy
And I guess I held on to you
You could've run away and left, well maybe
But it wasn't time and we both knew
So goodbye my friend
I know I'll never see you again
But the love you gave me through all the years
Will take away my tears
I'm O.K. now
Goodbye my friend
A life so fragile, a love so pure
We can't hold on but we try
We watch how quickly it disappears
And we'll never know why
But I'm O.K. now
Goodbye my friend
You can go now
Goodbye my friend.

Wait! This song is for his dog? Wow! Not that I’m judging. I’m just impress.
@@discreteloner9573 NO. It wasn't.
It was written by Bonoff to comfort herself on the loss of a much loved cat.@@MacMcCaskill
