Great Vid! I've been binging them since I found you! Couple things that might help explain: On Auriok and Vulshok: The most outer layer of phyrexia I believe, used to be the razor grass fields and is the area that Phyrexia ignores the most. Additionally, the Vulshok would have come from Urabrask's domain, and considering he's kind of chill with them, that might explain why the majority of what we see are mirrans from those two zones. On HexGold: The resistance has rallied around Melira, so maybe she has something to do with inkmoth serum being turned back into blinkmoth serum? Unsure.
Koth for sure. I sure hope he gets to deal a decisive blow against the Phyrexians and doesn't just get sidelined by the 'main characters' after devoting his whole life to the resistance. Same goes for all the other Mirran legends, but being a planeswalker Koth had the opportunity to leave and didn't.
I love Urtet. He has Slave Knight Gael from Dark Souls 3 vibes. Something about this humble lil dude surviving in an apocalyptic hellscape just really strikes me as insanely cool.
On the additional clothing worn by Mirrans now, my assumption would be that it used to be hot as you said because Mirrodin had 5 suns, but with the Monumental Facade covering the original surface it is in fact colder now. That and after being at war with Phyrexia for years a sort of arms race led to them being more heavily armored. Seems reasonable enough to me.
A single spike or burr or twig or nail digging into your skin can cause a lethal infection leading to conversion. I'd bundle up too, at this point heat stroke isn't exactly first priority.
I enjoyed that we had Lukka as a "everyone hates this guy" character. he's so oddly compelling to me, and it really is just perfect that he essentially compleated himself.
I respect your opinion but I cannot disagree more. Lukka is an ass in the story but at the same time he had potential to actually become a neat character
I suppose what I mean by that is that I find it a damn shame that the man has had two sets to flesh out the start of a character and as far as I understand they're more than likely dead

I think the mirrans being, in their vast majority, aurioks and vulshoks is largely due to white and red being the color pair for the rebels on this set. The only creatures that aren't either phyrexians, white or red in this set are the 3 myrs, the legendary Juggernaut, the Sylvok battlechair, Thrun, Melira, and Blade of Shared Souls. There simply aren't many survivors left.
It's also because the other colour-aligned groups on Mirrodin fell much more completely. The Moriok, Sylvok and Elves were all in areas that Phyrexia took control of early (the Dross and Tangle respectively), and the Neurok and Vedalken were extra screwed because the Phyrexians were able to corrupt the entire Quicksilver Sea with Oil, so Lumengrid and the other spires were more or less entirely subsumed. Meanwhile, Bladehold and Taj Nar were the areas furthest from the Phyrexians' initial assaults, so they had more time to prepare and more room to retreat when they started losing, and the Vulshok were relatively united at the time the Oxidda Chain came under attack, so they were able to fight back with some effectiveness. So, Auriok, Vulshok, and to a lesser extent Leonin, Goblins and Loxodons being the main rebels left makes a lot of sense. There is also one Neurok left iirc, that being Kara Vrist, but she never gets a card. That disappointed me, ngl.
the way I understand the bladearms Nahiri thing is that she can alter her body with lithomancy since she's made of metal now, or something like that. I agree with you that the bladearms look silly, though, I think adding more blades and more arms would've looked better

Although It's most likely because she can just Shape-shifting her arms now into anything and swords are just the default, part of me wants to believe it's her original self still fighting on the inside and deciding not to give the phyrexians the satisfaction of having another Uber powerful planeswalker.

The weird thing about the Lukka & Nissa story is that it does a really good job at showing him being slowly mentally converted, and the confusion that comes with that, while both he and Nissa make actively terrible decisions in the story.
Yes these very intelligent characters making really dumb decisions....sounds like D&D Game of thrones stuff right here. I think people like to defend what they love even if what they hear is awful. I'm not one of them. The lore was a let down. those in creative control don't have that many good ideas and it shows. Many other channels sharing and their comments discussing openly how bad the lore is currently and it's OKAY. Being real and honest is NOT A BAD THING. Have a go at it. I'm sure you can think of some much better ideas for these characters than what was told so put it down like others are doing or continue to be spoonfed sheep
@@Doenobot nope Dark Steel can be converted to Blight Steel via the Oil but to be fair Dark Steel is forged from more standard metals. The hexagonal plates of the Glinmervoid are rather unique having odd effects on the magic around them so wouldnt be surprised if the Blink Moth Serum interacted with them in a unique way.

YES! The blade-arms are horrendous! I still cry inside when I see them. My soul was crushed when I read the story, Phyrexia as an idea is just way too terrifying.
After watching the last video on New Phyrexia and the Myr speech, I was lowkey imagining some myr rebel cards. I know it's very out there given their origin, but a myr rebel force purely built on the idea that they reproduce en masse to fight against Phyrexia's antithesis of myrdom sounded inspiring, if not very believable.
I think the blade arms are supposed to show that she can shape-shift her body through her lithomancy abilities. I don't think her arms are permanently swords, she just had them in that configuration for this one moment, likely right before she went into battle or something. Also, are you all forgetting Nahiri's Stoneblades? She's already done this before. Think of Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchenist and his sword arm. It's not always a sword, he just uses alchemy to change it into a sword sometimes when he's fighting.
re: Clothing - I always thought that clothing styles were slim on Mirrodin from their resident's partially metal skin. Reduced snagging on oneself, etc. Five "suns" makes the hotter theory make sense, too. Anyways, for the resistance, I can see increased clothing as a last resort between them and spilled oil.
Hey man, found you about a year ago and absolutely love what you do. I really enjoy someone else fanboying over Myr as much (maybe more) as I do. Please keep up the good work and don't feel pressured by deadlines or that kind of stuff.
Issues with the story in recent sets is really that they aren't able to take their time as much as they used to. With a single set to tell such a big story with so many characters and moving pieces, a lot has to be cut for simplicity's sake and so they can move on to the next big set piece. With both this set and Dominaria United, I wish we had gotten two sets so that we could really flesh out characters and plots. Have Dominaria United and Dominaria At War showing the people of the plane getting together to fight the Phyrexians, and then the full scale battle for the next set. Hint at Ajani's sleeper agent mode for the first set, and the big reveal for the next. Then for Phyrexia, have Phyrexia Part 1 and Part 2. Part one tells the story of half the strike team getting together and bringing the Sylex to the seedcore, only to see that they're too late; basically this set itself, but slower and more detailed. Part 2 would be everything that Nissa has to do and her time on the plane. Get a really good look of how she got compleated and how the big, dramatic reveal at the end of Part 1 came to be.
I'm honestly very surprised Sarcomite Myr didn't show up in the set, this would've been the perfect place to sneak it in given the W/U artifact theme in the set
31:50 (ish) - I think it was alluded to once in the main story but also expanded upon in the Cinders short story by Cassandra Khaw, is that while Urabrask isn't sending his forces to wipe the Mirrans out, individual phyrexians including those from the furnace layer will attack resistance fighters in some circumstances (and vice versa - they are competing over resources after all). They way the main story described it was that they had a sort of agreement with Urabrask where he would tolerate their existence on the furnace layer, but not necessarily allow them to establish proper settlements, etc., and that basically some small scale conflict is always going on, whether with other colour Phyrexians or the red ones. To be clear, the red Phyrexians do want the Mirrans to be completed - see Slobad's motivation in the Cinders short story - but are just much less aggressive about it than the other Phyrexians are, and more willing to be patient/allow resistance deserters to come to them. Plus some of the Phyrexians are more beastly / less logical, so if a Mirran encountered one, even if it's a red Phyrexian, they'd probably still have to defend themselves against it.
They're also in the rebels color pair on this set. All other 9 color pairs have something to do with Phyrexians. Also pretty much every creature but white and red ones are phyrexians. There are only 8 non-boros non-phyrexian creatures on the set, and that's if you're counting the For Mirrodin equipment.

Your enthusiasm for the Myr had inspired me to make a Myr deck! Urtet shall be my commander! I have only one othet 5-color deck, my Sliver deck, and I rarely find a want these days to play it with how linear and simple it is. Even an infect deck feels more fun than a Sliver deck. So, Im excited to have a new 5-color deck to try out and my first artifact-centric deck! The Myr shall triumph!

I'd love it if there was an implication that the mites were made out of repossessed myr. Perhaps a cycle of uncommon myr that enter with 3 oil counters. You remove a counter and tap to add mana and when the last one is removed you get some effect and make a mite. It would heavily imply that to the phyrexians the myr have their use but only to a point.
I guess my biggest gripe with this set is that the Mirrans look way too determined, fierce, hopeful and well fed for refugees that try to survive in literal hell.

With March of the Machines, perhaps the Myr will spread across the multiverse, and be the artifact creature equivalent of goblins or a poor man’s Sliver in the future.
I agree with you about white phyrexians. I'm not sure I like the move from porcelain being their material to bone. I really thought the aesthetic of the original ones were incredibly unsettling, especially since they had those masks. The new ones, the red sinew showing is a good design choice, but putting teeth everywhere? No thanks. I want the cracked porcelain back. Maybe give a few that use bone, but they overdid it.
Since myr have a gensis chamber, untap outlet, and finisher for 3 mana in the command zone, myr are probably one the strongest creature type matters decks in the format behind like elf ball, goblins, and maybe zombies because the artifact creature shell was already one of the strongest things you could be doing in the format already and the core myr package doesn't even get in the way of the artifact shell as long as long as you already have passive haste enablers like thousand year elixir and lightning greaves.
to be honest... I kinda agree with you when it comes to the depictions of Mirrans. A metal world with 5 suns? No wonder it's so damn hot... on a world that has been artificially deadened, likely cooled due to the furnaces no longer needing to focus on conquest troops while they have their armies assembled and waiting to invade, it's possible the mana suns have been somehow shackled by the phyrexians to funnel mana into their creations.
I think the energy weapons are a reference to aether weapons which seemed to be a thing they developed at the end of the war and showed up in the last block.
Gendering leonin by whether or not they have a mane is not very based of you Though all this Mirran analysis, even just from bullet points, is really cool :0
Sword arms were cool enough for the T-1000, they're cool enough for Nahiri. Plus her whole deal is shaping metal, it would make sense that she's able to change/remove them.
I wish Urabrask made his own Myrs to serve them while having personality of freedom and emotions. Somebody make that happen, I don't care its fan art I will make it into a custom magic card. I want more Urabrask lore and Myrs for the magic the gathering fans who like them.
I really wish that magic had books more along the lines of the Warhammer 40K franchise. Just so much untapped potential with so many different diverse worlds and amazing stories you could tell with them and they seem to be just stuck on the gate watch and it's upsetting also... Where do you even find MTG novels?
Shout out to Elsbeth, who heroically sacrificed herself to foil the Gatewatch's plan and allow the Phyrexians to invade the multiverse. Like, she was more useful to the Phyrexians than any other planeswalker, and at least a few of the Praetors, and she wasn't even compleated. Just incredibly stupid.
So both Nissa and Nahiri have been compleated. The Eldrazi have basically no planeswalkers left. So Phyrexia is compleating the Eldrazi next set we see them. We beat Phyrexia, Nicol Bolas, and the Eldraxi. all we can do now is combine them. Nicol Bolas will be a possible target of Tezzeret wanting Phyrexia to compleate him. But Tenser/Jace will let Nicol Bolas out to fight the Phyrexian Eldrazi. Nicol will probably bing Yawgmouth back to life/time travel for him and then have a Phyrexian civil war break them up and give everyone a chance. Nicol is now free to plot in peace while the Planeswalkers deal with the Phyrexian civil religous war.
At the rate we're going, only way we see myr at the rate we should is finding them on some other plane, discovering that, like Yotian Soldier, they were a design that Memnarch got from elsewhere.
I think the reason the Koreans are wearing more clothing is for the function of protection against the oil, as if they get scratched they’ll be completed unless melira cures them

The Blinkmoth serum was also used in creating Dark Steel in older Mirrodin sets.
And Dark Steel is apparently harder to convert with Phyresis?

31:50 (ish) - I think it was alluded to once in the main story but also expanded upon in the Cinders short story by Cassandra Khaw, is that while Urabrask isn't sending his forces to wipe the Mirrans out, individual phyrexians including those from the furnace layer will attack resistance fighters in some circumstances (and vice versa - they are competing over resources after all).
They way the main story described it was that they had a sort of agreement with Urabrask where he would tolerate their existence on the furnace layer, but not necessarily allow them to establish proper settlements, etc., and that basically some small scale conflict is always going on, whether with other colour Phyrexians or the red ones.
To be clear, the red Phyrexians do want the Mirrans to be completed - see Slobad's motivation in the Cinders short story - but are just much less aggressive about it than the other Phyrexians are, and more willing to be patient/allow resistance deserters to come to them. Plus some of the Phyrexians are more beastly / less logical, so if a Mirran encountered one, even if it's a red Phyrexian, they'd probably still have to defend themselves against it.
I think they're mainly Vulshok and Auriok because those were the last/least compleated sections of Mirrodin by the end of the war.
They're also in the rebels color pair on this set. All other 9 color pairs have something to do with Phyrexians. Also pretty much every creature but white and red ones are phyrexians. There are only 8 non-boros non-phyrexian creatures on the set, and that's if you're counting the For Mirrodin equipment.

Your enthusiasm for the Myr had inspired me to make a Myr deck! Urtet shall be my commander! I have only one othet 5-color deck, my Sliver deck, and I rarely find a want these days to play it with how linear and simple it is. Even an infect deck feels more fun than a Sliver deck. So, Im excited to have a new 5-color deck to try out and my first artifact-centric deck! The Myr shall triumph!

I'd love it if there was an implication that the mites were made out of repossessed myr. Perhaps a cycle of uncommon myr that enter with 3 oil counters. You remove a counter and tap to add mana and when the last one is removed you get some effect and make a mite. It would heavily imply that to the phyrexians the myr have their use but only to a point.

I agree with you about white phyrexians. I'm not sure I like the move from porcelain being their material to bone. I really thought the aesthetic of the original ones were incredibly unsettling, especially since they had those masks. The new ones, the red sinew showing is a good design choice, but putting teeth everywhere? No thanks. I want the cracked porcelain back. Maybe give a few that use bone, but they overdid it.

Since myr have a gensis chamber, untap outlet, and finisher for 3 mana in the command zone, myr are probably one the strongest creature type matters decks in the format behind like elf ball, goblins, and maybe zombies because the artifact creature shell was already one of the strongest things you could be doing in the format already and the core myr package doesn't even get in the way of the artifact shell as long as long as you already have passive haste enablers like thousand year elixir and lightning greaves.
Now I want a legendary Myr or an Anti-Myr in UB colours.

to be honest... I kinda agree with you when it comes to the depictions of Mirrans. A metal world with 5 suns? No wonder it's so damn hot... on a world that has been artificially deadened, likely cooled due to the furnaces no longer needing to focus on conquest troops while they have their armies assembled and waiting to invade, it's possible the mana suns have been somehow shackled by the phyrexians to funnel mana into their creations.

Sword arms were cool enough for the T-1000, they're cool enough for Nahiri. Plus her whole deal is shaping metal, it would make sense that she's able to change/remove them.
I wish Urabrask made his own Myrs to serve them while having personality of freedom and emotions. Somebody make that happen, I don't care its fan art I will make it into a custom magic card. I want more Urabrask lore and Myrs for the magic the gathering fans who like them.

Shout out to Elsbeth, who heroically sacrificed herself to foil the Gatewatch's plan and allow the Phyrexians to invade the multiverse. Like, she was more useful to the Phyrexians than any other planeswalker, and at least a few of the Praetors, and she wasn't even compleated. Just incredibly stupid.

So both Nissa and Nahiri have been compleated. The Eldrazi have basically no planeswalkers left. So Phyrexia is compleating the Eldrazi next set we see them.
We beat Phyrexia, Nicol Bolas, and the Eldraxi. all we can do now is combine them. Nicol Bolas will be a possible target of Tezzeret wanting Phyrexia to compleate him. But Tenser/Jace will let Nicol Bolas out to fight the Phyrexian Eldrazi.
Nicol will probably bing Yawgmouth back to life/time travel for him and then have a Phyrexian civil war break them up and give everyone a chance.
Nicol is now free to plot in peace while the Planeswalkers deal with the Phyrexian civil religous war.
At the rate we're going, only way we see myr at the rate we should is finding them on some other plane, discovering that, like Yotian Soldier, they were a design that Memnarch got from elsewhere.
