Talon I went through exactly the same stuff you are experiencing so far this year! The first year I ran crate late models I finished only 1 race all season! No wrecks, running around the top 5 every week but something would always happen, or break! It’s just bad luck, hang in there you’re a great young driver!

Pump the brakes . Chase isn’t truly beating good competition. He is racing 7 cars a week and won’t travel to any big crate races. He is a CHERRY PICKER.

This is what Chase should be doing . This is his first year . Nothing wrong with cherry picking if that’s what you call it. Least he’s building his confidence. If he was racing big events of course it may not turn out as good . But confidence is a big thing his first year. And he winning some money.

I was glad I finally got to watch him at boothill. His driving looks great. Turn four seem like he was struggling the more laps he made. One two and three he was rolling

We can put Talon in a full blown super latemodel and he can go out and set fast time the 2 times he’s ever sat in it! Definitely not a driver issue going on. In my opinion the car is dated and we didn’t/ don’t know the history of it.. definitely takes a lil newer equipment or atleast knowing the history of one to compete even at the crate level.

That very well could be the issue, It could be flexed and never stay consistent without going on a jig and putting some updates to it. Might be further ahead to get rid of it look for something newer, I know easier said than done but the kids got potential and i feel like that car is hiding it. Good Luck and keep plugging away your a great kid and great family youll get there with hard work.

I was watching the car going into the corners and you’re right it doesn’t make the same entrance in either corner just a thought I think it got worse after y’all took rear end out this time when he’s on the track and if let’s go of stirring wheel does automatically go left if not it should I know you’re a smart feller and dang good driver be sure to check all those himes joints gotta be free I do believe it’s in the rear of chassis boy I wish I was close to y’all ld love help y’all I’m just throwing ideas at y’all maybe might help you out Talan really is super talented

Thank you so much… A lot of time, work, sacrifices, and money went into it. Plus we built for half of what it cost now. My wife and I both grew up in trailers and we also bought an old trailer that we fixed up and made really nice, we loved it. Our goal was to build a house in 10 years and that’s exactly what we did! I do know one thing, it don’t matter what you live in as long as you have the right people in it, that’s what makes it a HOME!

You need a straight chassis and good shocks. May check into getting bracket updates for that chassis(if you haven’t done it Already). Game changes every year!! And yes he can drive. The car ain’t right! He should not have to sling the ass end!!!!
All brackets and all are new. It maybe tweaked somewhere and we just don’t know, but can’t get a lot of info on it.

Its not the driver he has the skills and is learning. I hate to say this but Black Diamond isnt consistent. It may be the chassis is flexed out.. that young man can do it i see it in his mind and heart.. you both will get it figured out. Prayers for you guys

I thought exactly like you about the chassis, and then being an older not big name chassis i didn’t think mattered much as all especially in a crate car? But I know for a fact that a newer car and somewhat of a big name chassis really does matter! I wasn’t ever convinced of it until I drove newer better equipment or same everything, except newer better chassis! I really will make some difference? I’m admitting I was wrong lol!
Thanks for sharing… I am hard headed when it comes to that, but I do believe you are right! I know new never hurt, so I would think it would probably help!!! Just have to wait and see what move we can afford to make if any.
@@talanwillisracing5910 like I said I was just like you a few years ago whenever I was first seriously thinking about getting my first late model, and told myself and other people that you don’t have your have a big name, newish late model just to race at our local 3/8ths short track and I was almost 100% convinced that it really didn’t matter as long as I had a car that handled good and wasn’t to old that i could run with newer cars? Well I was wrong lol! Don’t get me wrong I was always around mid pack, but something would always break, or something would keep me from finishing a race? I raced in 9 races that first year and I only finished 1 of them! It was a top 5 or i finished 5th but I was just happy to finish one lol so I can definitely relate to what yall are going through unfortunately lol! But anyways I ended up buying a newer a 2017 Walter Newman chassis but it did have a lot of high dollar parts on it, but with a 602 your only gonna run but so fast in a crate car, but I ended up putting one of my good friends in the car for a race cause he races supers and his parents run our local track and if there is a late model or street stock race in Sumter where I’m talking about he will always win, or 98% of the time he will be in the top 3 worst case scenario lol? But anyways whenever he raced my car he started about half a lap behind the tail of the field just so he could have an open track so he could see exactly how fast/slow the car actually was, and he ran the exact same lap times as I had been running all year, actually my lap times were a little bit quicker than his were, I mean only by a tenth or two which is a lot really, But anyways that told me that it definitely wasn’t me, that it was just the car, cause he said after he drove it that it handled good and that we could maybe make a couple of tweaks to the RF shock to get a little better, but for the most part that was just the fastest or the best that car could do with the parts and everything that is in it! But what convinced me that a newer car is definitely better, I put all my drive train in a 2021 Longhorn that belonged to my buddy that drove my car, and I was almost a half second quicker at the same track, with the same power and shocks, everything was the same except the chassis was different? So that was all the convincing that I needed after that, the lap times don’t lie lol! Talon is a great young driver and i would definitely look into getting a newer or a 2020+ chassis that is considered to be a top 5 name brand chassis! Also get one from somebody that you know and you know if the car has been kept up and hasn’t ever been in a hard wreck before! Cause the smallest little bend on something on the chassis will make a big difference? Sorry for the book I just wrote to you, but I’m just trying to help yall any way I can and tell you what I have learned from driving and being around late models over the past several years! Like I said before I was just like you whenever I first started out racing LMs that newer definitely makes a difference! And this video just stood out to me because I have been through exactly what yall are going through, and I thought the same way as you as far as thinking that you didn’t have to have a newer chassis to run competitively against big name chassis, especially in a crate car? But I learned the hard way, but I learned that newer is definitely better and if you get a newer car and still have these problems, then it might be the driver? But I honestly think that Talon can drive anything and does great whenever he has a good car to race! Also power is not as important as handling and being consistent with lap times! But anyways I wish y’all the best of luck and hope that y’all’s bad luck will turn around just tell Talon to be patient, practice every chance he gets and just learn and get use to running good solid consistent lap times, consistency is the key to being good in a crate car especially cause it’s all about keeping up your momentum! Hope something I said might help Talon? Just keep your head up bud and you will be fine! Again sorry for writing you a book lol! But I can relate so much with what yall are going through with getting into a late model! One last thing that I have learned to be very true! If you have a great driver and an average car, you can still run up front, but if you have a great driver and a great car then you will be up front consistently, but if you have an average driver in a great car it’s alot harder to run upfront! So the point is try to get a good/great proven car, like maybe one of Cade Dillards old cars or somebody like him that y’all know and have seen that is a winning car and put Talon in it and see how much of a difference that makes? Or do what I did and put a good proven driver in the car yall have now and see what kind of lap times they turn in it compared to the times Talon is turning in the car? I know money doesn’t grow on trees lol, but if Talon or anybody wants to make it as a Late Model driver he has to have some of the best equipment or just as good as what he is racing against! Unfortunately that is just where especially late model racing has gone to now a days? Technology has just come so far over the past 5 years or so? But anyways I wish y’all the best and I’m a big fan of Talon and what yall are trying to do and just keep digging and just learn as much as you can, try different stuff until you find what works best for Talons driving style! Everybody drives a little different! I hope something I said will help y’all out? But good luck to yall I wish y’all the best, and you have a great little wheel man in Talon he just has to find what works best for him! Again sorry for this long message lol! Just trying to help a good young driver out!

Do you think something could be bent somewhere? Your right he is a good driver but he's fighting the car. Maybe it's time to look at another chassis. Maybe not a brand new one but a newer one. But I know that's easier said then done. If I was rich I'd buy you one no problem lol. I hope you guys get it figured out because he's a good kid and I know he's going to do great things. Very possible but just don’t know. I’m kinda over just throwing money at it and get same results. We may have to look at getting a newer to us chassis down the rd. I really would like to just figure this one out
I’d recommend racing more. Every weekend if possible.
Yeah that’s tough in our area for sure… Plus with having jobs, school, special needs daughter, prices of everything it makes it tough. The closest track that races them locally is 2.5 hours

@@talanwillisracing5910 , We are in your corner , been in and still own asphalt Modified and Phantom Dirt karts also we have raced /dirt mods my brother drove for a builder up in Ohio and for years ran alot at Eldora ,If I wasn't all the way up in North East Indiana i would offer to help out at the track or were ever needed ,I see so much potential in Talon you all are doing a great job raising him and it shows, Thank you for sharing on youtube . To me, the nose looks to low at the very least on the left side of car. Could be part of the not turning on entry you talking about. The left side of that nose is like stuttering across the track down the straight away in some of the clips here. I'd look at that. For instance at 12:10 watch the nose whole way down the track, and look at everyone elses. I know you want it sealed up down there but it just appears lower than the rest to me. If that's bottoming out at all when he's trying to enter it's gonna upset that car.
Either way I hope you guys get it figured out. Lot of hard work shown in these last two videos. You boys were sweatin' lol. I couldn't handle that heat. I'm dying up here in NY when it's in the 80's 😂. Erik Scott has tried to get me to come down a few times I told him I'd melt!

Yeah definitely not the driver that boy can drive being an older car it could be a dozen things that the car don't like been nice if Mr Jason with a got talent the same thing as Chase has that way you could compare notes maybe have somebody else do some laps in it and see what they think might be up with the car I know years ago I had to do that my buddy that used to build chassis had him run it one night try to punch things took it back to his shop the next morning change the bunch of stuff I won my first feature the next night out but hopefully you guys get it figured out I love watching him run that car love the videos but good luck guys be safe have fun and take care
Agree with the above statement. It's for sure not the driver. I also believe with you that you can compete with an older car. May need to make a few adjustments or even small design changes to the chaise. Sometimes the most up to date components just will not work as well on an older chaise. Just a thought that may not apply to your situation. My experience is all on asphalt but love the skills it takes to race dirt as my father did. Another thought would be to contact the Hollands and rent a track for the two team mates to test on and maybe you all can come up with what the car needs to get the most out of it. Talan is full of talent and can get only out of the car what it will give.
I do think you are both correct! We will have to go test somewhere soon!

Put a good experience driver that knows what the car should feel like in it. I did that with my sons car and found the problem in 5 laps.but it was a veteran experienced driver that was willing to help.
I personally think that's the best idea!! Instead of grinding on the car and continuing to break parts.!

@@talanwillisracing5910 I want to tell you that I've only used internet for 8ish year's. Story behind that! Our children suggested TH-cam for some entertainment! Especially since i grew up with dirt track racing right here in my hometown!! The greedy County messed it up and pushed everyone away!! Each and everytime someone else tried to get our track going again.!
Out of all the channel's I've had or have you are most consistent, positive, entertaining, and always responds to comments!! On top of that we get to see Talan's talents shine and grow!! Thank you both very much!!.. Really from bottom of my heart!!..
I'm actually probably a little older than you, but have had a lot of health issues, several surgeries!! Couple failed surgeries past couple year's!!.. So you all, CHR, Hunt the Front, Old #7Garage, and few other channels keeps me temporarily from thinking about my issues!!..

I'm watching the video on my TV listening to u talk and I believe ur right tallin is better then the equipment he is using maybe have a practice session and have a known crate driver hit the track in it maybe see if they feel the same way I believe u guys will catch it

Something is bent in the RR of that car from when he hit the wall, which is why the rear-end was bent to hell and back. After he hit the fence that time it seems like I could see peeling powdercoat in the RR near the fuel cell, although the lighting in the video wasn't the best, but peeling/cracked powder is a tell tale sign of bent tubing. That, and the fuel cell box being tweaked indicates something bent. Need to get that thing on the jig.

Start checking the front end like bump steer! You’ll be amazed how much the front end can mess up the entire car! Y’all will get it figured out!
Yeah bud we did… I have tried everything I know. I feel we are off somewhere on the rf shock spring setup but I don’t know much about that!
This is definitely an equipment issue. Pray you find a way to figure this one out or get something better.

Ya got a piece of tape on the steering wheel to center it? Put a cam in the cockpit to watch the steering wheel. It will tell ya a lot! Shocks are Huge

Adam I watch the car way he was out there I believe the car is very tight and the only way he can get it in is sideways so I would free it up so much he can’t drive it then start tightening it up little by little tell it’s right but that’s my opinion

Adam it looks from the video that the car is loading the right front off throttle and the travel on the right front is pinned down if the make sense kinda like the coil binding car of past I would try to raise the right front and tie the left down a little more to throw more on the drive off if that makes sense if not it like everyone has a opinion and you have to follow what you fill cause most of the time it will lead you right and your right talon is much better then the car maybe talk to chase holland for some advice may can lead you somewhere you guys haven’t thought about? Well good luck and hopefully some of my rambling has helped as always I’m not at the track in person but I have been at the track many times and have setup some of the fastest crate and steel head late models on the east coast in Virginia Tennessee and the Carolinas and would more then welcome to help if that means coming down to you for a weekend and helping out peace and good luck

lol 604 crate late models only about 420-430hp
@@talanwillisracing5910 OMG , we have those at Volusia, and the 602s. You should get into a super late if you have a mass love for suspensions!
He races a super late model as well if you check back a few videos… they are exact same suspension though
Bo he needs laps and after lot of laps make more laps. Go to same track and make laps and after all that then you need a new car to get upfront butt a keep turning left. Butt a Make laps........

Over driving entry watch how much faster he enters the corner then the guys up front he has what it take kid is good just just needs too slow down too good fast
Maybe… I am firm believer in slower is fast but only in the slick… a super late model charges the corner twice as hard as a crate and has no problem. Same cars just different engines.
Talan needs to bounce some ideas off Chase Holland to help get him a baseline since they are team cars. You need to keep diggin.
Yeah true… we do need a good base line but 2 different chassis manufacturers. We are going to talk to them though.
The car has to roll through the corner in order for that to happen you have to have more weight on lf.ft,rt.rear negative rt ft Camber higher left ft or right rear spring rate will make a difference. In the corner think rear steering
