@Ken-xm1rf it has to go through legislative review. I don't remember the exact timing in when it will be effective but the DMF will put put a message and I'm sure we'll all hear about it. I think it might not go into effect until March.
Fishing is my main hobby and frankly just a big part of life for me and my family. I'm seriously thinking of retiring to a different state that better regulates its fisheries instead of punishing recreational fishermen. I guess sheepshead will be next on the chopping block.
@crushdangle9910 for sure they will. Black drum as well. It's already been mentioned but also for good reason. When I first started sheepshead fishing it was pretty rare to see anybody else doing it. Now it's hard to get to any of my spots half the time because so many are targeting them.
@aljohnson1191 the real issue is that a gillnet can't catch trout in a slot. So there will be a fair amount of waste. I totally agree that slot works though.
@@skeeterman1970 Sammy had decided a long time ago that he wanted to see a slot. I do like how he wants both sectors to have roughly the same rules. Just don't think this will work
I would have preferred the MFC close the season for the winter to help the fishery. Unfortunately that goal is not in their charter; they only maximize commercial interests.
@michaelbrady4698 in this case, the winter closure was strongly opposed by those with financial interests on both sides of the hall. Tackle shop owners are primarily selling trout gear in winter.
@FishingwithBrewski "financial interests" is the driving force that has us in this depleted state of marine resources. Fish can still be caught and released. Sooner, rather than later, decisions based on the fishery are what we need. Not "financially" driven band-aids.
Tight lines and Happy Holidays Brewski!!
Awesome Job. Glad to see adaptive.
If Steveo doesn't contact you I was next lol. Good stuff keep hamering them!
@randyprovost8426 hopefully he sees the video but there will be more giveaways in the future not many people participate so you've got a great shot
Steve, does this kick in on Jan 1, 2025? All in all this seems like progress. Thanks for all the work you've done.

The fishery will improve and have better quality fish with an implementation of the slot. I have seen it work in Florida

So no quota for commercial was discussed?

@FishingwithBrewski seems like it was financial interests that got us into this mess. The fishery comes first.
