      Thank you. I really appreciate them working hard to improve their stuff. I really like the look and feel of that Robusto too. I normally shoot 125 gr heads, and adding that extra 25 grains doesn't affect the flight until I get past 40 yds.

    I’ve changed to the Sevr 2.1 last yr and got a great pass through on a buck. 17yd shot, most blood loss I’ve ever seen he went 15yds and dropped! I am shooting 29/70 435g arrow. I shot a nice buck with my Tenpoint Nitro XRT crossbow using the SEVR 2.1 this past season and the broadhead worked great. I made a bad shot and hit bone in the front shoulder, but the deer ran only 50 yards and dropped. The tip of the ferrule bent and I did not get a complete pass through, as expect with hitting a large bone, but IMO , because the blades lock on this broadhead it saved me.
    I bent the tip on another one from the broadhead making contact with something in the ground... I’m not a big fan of the titanium ferrule.
    This season I’ll be switching over to the SEVR Robusto 2.0 ( stainless steel ferrule) for my crossbow.
    To me, one of the biggest advantages of this broadhead is , the blades lock into place when deployed and you can lock the blades closed to practice with the broadhead. They are very accurate and I really like them a lot.
    I really love watching your reviews. Thanks for your time and information.

    Or go with the robusto

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks James. All of their heads have the same retention system; the Robusto is just all steel and thus 150 grains. With the speed of a crossbow, the larger cut should be no problem in penetration. But any of their heads will work fine out of a crossbow.

    John great channel ! Subscribed ! I am shooting a 75lb bow with 30 ' draw. In this scenario do you think the 2.0 may stand out over the 1.5 as penetration will likely be good? Secondly why does the 1.7 not get any love? It seems that it should combine the best of both worlds I just wish they had the same cutting tip

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. I really appreciate it. Man, with your set up, I'd definitely go with the 2.0 or even the Robusto, cause it's even more durable. And that extra weight only works for you. The 1.7 is a great head. It only comes in 100 gr, and I prefer 125. But it's tested very well for me and is less expensive due to the aluminum instead of titanium. I like the 1.5 in 125 grs cause the ferrule is extra thick and thus stronger.

    @christopherd7922 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi great video. It sounds like this is a very durable head. I see that you really like the 1.5 head. Does Sevr make a three or four blade head? If they do make one that you could close down the blades for practice and it’s as tough as the 1.5 I’d be all over it. I’m not saying that two blades don’t work if they do I’m just not a fan and would rather a three of four

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, they only make 2 blade heads at this point. For mechs, I actually prefer 2 blade heads, provided the leading tip is also at least 1/2" of cut as well. You get better penetration with a 2 blade mech due to less resistance as it passes thru the animal and the wider the cut is, the better the blood trail.

  • @dheller777
    @dheller777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks like those heads are about 3 inches long. Adding that much length to your adding that much length to the arrow it seems like that would affect the spine of the arrow somewhat. Second would being more of a swept back reduce the overall cutting diameter. And last would having one blade open and the other possibly shut while passing through an animal not cause the arrow to deflect some by possibly having only one blade deployed. Just some questions that come to mind.

    • @terrymead4024
      @terrymead4024 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      dheller777 the cutting diameter is with the blades fully deployed. Pretty much impossible for only 1 blade to deploy.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good questions. Re spine, there is zero practical impact from that. I used to think the same, but I've even shot much longer mechs that do fine. The cutting diameter is a full 2.0", whereas the original was 2.1, so it is a bit smaller...but the angle is steeper. These will not deflect on a bone if one blade hits it--that's one of its major strengths. If one blade hits a big bone, it will swing away without deflecting. The other blade hitting tissue will not cause deflection, as it just cuts through it. And once it passes the bone, the other blade swings open immediately, due to the force on the other blade that was already open.

    Hey John, What do you think of the SEVR 1.5" for elk? I'm shooting 260fps and 420-grain arrow. I have a short draw of 25". I shoot very well out to 80 yards(I would never shoot that distance on an elk). What do you think penetration would be with that setup. I've been using a fixed blade "cut on contact" broadhead and have shot a few bulls with it(ranging from 7-60 yards). However, I am interested in the SEVR's design and potential for better blood trails and quicker kills. Thank you for your input!

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question, Barrett. You're still getting some good momentum with that set up. The Sevr 1.5 would do great on elk. I have them in my quiver on elk hunts. They are by far the most durable mech I've ever tested.

    I burned up my last package of ulmer edge's last year...breaks my heart. These are almost identical but the "tabs" or wingtips seem to stick out further than they do on the ulmer edges and that bugs me, as it did on the ulmers but more so here. Why can't they tuck the wings in a little further? Thanks for the review, glad i found a replacement for the ulmers at least. And funny to see Randy endorsing the sevrs on their website.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, these are the Ulmer Edge, but improved. They got the design rights. Believe me, they have those wings as small as they possibly can to still allow the blades to lock open. But they still penetrate well and cut tissue well, so theyre not as big of a deal as people have been led to believe.

  • @danmerck7613
    @danmerck7613 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My biggest question with sevr is the rotation of the blade. I know it's purpose is to rotate around bone but I wonder if it also rotates around tougher vital organs such as the heart. Now I'm sure if it's up against a heart it will cut it but I wonder if the arrow is traveling right next to the heart and the one side comes in contact with the heart, will it rotate when it hits that tougher area such as the heart. I'm probably over thinking this. Lol

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I hear ya on that. But I think the resistance of tissue in general is uniform enough to keep both blades cutting, unless there is a really imbalanced medium, like bone. I've certainly had great results in hunting situations, with amazing blood trails.

I shoot a Mathews no cam at 60lbs. Also, doesn't putting the set screw in for practice change the weight thus make it fly differently than if you were hunting? Thank you in advance.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Brian. The screw does not add any noticeable weight for practice--it's less than the weight of a drop of water on your arrow shaft or bit of dirt. I can use 100 or 125 gr heads and get the same point of impact out to 40 yds; certainly within my margin of error. I use both the 1.5 and 2.0 and have been very effective with both. If I'm going after really large animals--like huge Iowa bucks or elk or moose sized animals, then the 1.5 does add quite a bit more penetration. But for most whitetails...as well as hogs, turkeys, etc, the 2.0 is great.

      On large whitetails or hard quartering shots, I'd prefer the 1.5. But I've used both on whitetails and both have performed very well; we have similar set ups as well. The good thing about the 2.0 is that the blades swing if one hits heavy bone, so it will still penetrate well. And when it swings, the cut is slightly smaller at that point, so starting with 2" keeps that cut fairly high as well.

    Do the wing tips not cause an issue in cutting since they stick out past the blade when deployed?

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You would think so...but what happens when a projectile is moving at 280 fps is WAY different than what happens when you just push it thru a medium. The penetration tests I do bear witness to that. If the wings impeded penetration, then that would be shown...but these actually penetrate well. Would it cut better without those wing tips? I would think so, but it's part of the design and is the reason they are the most durable mech on the market today. Everything is a tradeoff...but these still do penetrate very well and are the most durable and one of the best flying mechs.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've used both with great success. It's really a toss up. The 1.5 will be better if you're needing extra penetration, but the 2.0 will be better if you hit a bit back and need to cut some extra tissue. Everything in broadheads is a tradeoff. Last year I used the 1.5 the most, but this year, I've used the 2.0 of the most. I've loved both.

      Taiwan, I believe. Not sure if you know this, but almost every broadhead that says they're made entirely in the USA are not--the vast majority use blades from Taiwan and China.

  • @BeetleBuns
    @BeetleBuns 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why titanium over steel? Titanium is only stronger than steel of the same weight, and making it the same weight means making it larger and bulkier because it's less dense than steel. Seems that making a steel broadhead, tempering it properly and giving it good proportions is the way to go... and it would be cheaper to produce. BTW always enjoy these reviews, I do love seeing what broadheads are capable of even if I don't plan on using a particular one.

    • @LuskArcheryAdventures
      @LuskArcheryAdventures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, steel in general is definitely stronger. They do have the Robusto that is all steel, but weighs 150 gr. I was skeptical of the titanium when I first tested them...until I shot the Sevr 1.5 into a cinder block 3 times without it breaking or bending much; only the tip got somewhat blunted. Most steel heads have not faired nearly that well.

      Yes for sure. The Robusto is the same exact head but adds a bit more weight and more durability being all steel, so that's why they market it for crossbows. But the 2.0 is the same head in a titanium ferrule model so it will work fine with a crossbow as well.
