I love this channel and use it often for my students. I do wish that for the word "a", the schwa sound had been used consistently for my beginner students.
Thanks for the feedback. We used to use a professional studio to record our older video content, and the voice actors were not English teachers. Now we use in-house talent who are all former English teachers, so they would've caught that. Apologies to your students for any confusion! We're glad to hear you usually enjoy our videos.
@@Phymacss Any unstressed vowel sound (when speaking quickly) is called a schwa. It's represented by this symbol in the International Phonetic Alphabet: /ə/. We will post our pronunciation video on the schwa sound early this year in this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PL0MvnNQjMzmaj3OyBD766o70tB5OsiwHp.html
For the record, the article "a" is used when followed by a noun with a consonant SOUND, not a consonant (i.e. a eulogy, a eucalyptus tree), while "an" precedes a noun with a vowel SOUND, not necessarily a vowel (i.e. "I have an MA" or "The bus was an hour late.")
While we didn't want to overly complicate the beginner-level video, we acknowledged that and pointed out some common exceptions in this short: th-cam.com/users/shortslC9UsaCV-20?feature=share
Thank you for the video😊 I have no idea about a sentence in role-playing games. Examples: A: Restores your HP after battle. B: Restores your HP after a battle. C: Restores your HP after the battle. What's the difference between A, B and C?
Choice A is technically incorrect, but some people drop the article when space is limited since the meaning is still clear (e.g., in news headlines). Choice B means there are two or more battles in the game. Choice C means there is only one battle in the game. Since RPGs usually have many battles and the item usually restores your health points after any of those battles, B would be the best choice.
You got it! We didn't want to mention too many exceptions to the general rule in this beginner-level video, but we made a Short that explains some of these exceptions: th-cam.com/users/shortslC9UsaCV-20?si=4HXuN5_LvQCq7RH0
Hey, Ellii! I have a question for you. This is an NPC statement in a game. Is it correct how to use articles? Villager A: "I think you should get some stuff at the shop over there. I don't want you to fight a battle you can't win."
The articles are perfect! But I suggest saying "some supplies" instead of "some stuff" because it would sound more natural (or even "some gear" if it's only weapons and armor, but "some supplies" if it's potions and things like that too).
