    As a flat roofer of 37 years, thank you for mentioning the damn sharp pieces of metal that a lot of metal workers leave on the roof. They easily puncture EPDM, PVC and modified bitumen roofs. Now if only the HVAC guys would learn not leave said pieces and especially screws off the roof now!

    • @asm101
      @asm101  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's funny they will call the roofers for a leak that the HVAC guy made but there's no proof and the roofer has to eat it

    • @cammccarthy686

      Usually on new construction once the roof is complete any trade afterwards that comes on and causes a leak we fix but we bill that trade. We clean the roof spotless of all our stuff and from there we usually have a good idea what trade is still working on the roof and can usually match their fastening or material to the trade. But that's while the job is ongoing.

    How do I prevent water from constantly dripping at that S seam? Tried caulking but water always seems to wet the wall directly under each seam

    • @asm101
      @asm101  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Best way to avoid it is the add slope to the top and drain away from the face

    Could you have broke it with the taper, assuming you measured at take off. Seems like.that may have saved a little time

      @asm101 that's nice work I like the s-joint technique have used in ac duct construction but never in coping. Mainly used splice plates and standing seam on continuous cleat applications. I enjoy your videos good to see clean work going down.

    Could you do a video on how to do a "S" lock? Very interested in that method. Looks way better than having the coping method of a flange folded up on both sides of a seam and bent over.

    • @asm101
      @asm101  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes of course...it's on the list

    • @cammccarthy686

      S lock is basically take the last 3" and fold it underneath the peice, make a 2" mark on the 3" peice and fold it forward. If you can visualize it creates a pocket with 1" sticking past the top of the coping to serve as a flange for your screws. You also want to taper your peice. If you have 7" cap you want your stock side to be around 7 1/4" this accommodates the thickness of the layer of metals so it slides in easier.

    • @Josh-ww5kz
      @Josh-ww5kz ปีที่แล้ว

      @Cam do you put any type of sealent in the little pocketed area? Or should you just have a good peel and stick layer ontop that overlaps onto the siding material, etc.

    • @asm101
      @asm101  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Parapet caps aren't meant to be waterproof althought they can definately help with shedding water. The flat roofing company is supposed to seal up, over, and down the face and the copings main purpose it to prevent the flat roofing material from peeling back

    • @cammccarthy686
      @cammccarthy686 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Josh usually yeah you put a small line of caulking along the flange before inserting the second peice. In most cases you never want to tie your peel n stick into the metal they should each be their own defense against water

    Just wondering why you wouldn’t of had the Parapet coping flashing mad with a tapered hem from the break way cleaner and safer bet

    Flanged gutter should go on before cap, so that the flashing/stripping can go up under the cap

    How do I do a coping on a round wall?

    • @asm101
      @asm101  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are afew ways but the most popular is in small lengths sections...depending on how tight the radius of the curve will indicatehow short you make the pieces

  • @mpmPaulski
    @mpmPaulski 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the roofers were smart, they would tell the builder, hey look you need to raise the parapet wall with another 2x6 before the flat, or Just do it themselves.

      Technically there will be once the build the deck...I've been in this situation a million times...doesn't bother me that I have to customize my piece
