I just bought the optic-ready Shield Plus in .30SC this week, hoping to score some ammo this weekend. I'm with you, I want to see this round succeed. It would sure help if we could get more manufacturers on board.
Avidity Arms CEO was test firing their 22rd 30sc PD-21/22? in a TH-cam video earlier this year. It’s a double stack or stack and a half version of their PD-10. Ideally, we need Glock, Sig, Springfield, PSA, Taurus or somebody else to offer another gun in 30sc. S&W isn’t enough to sustain it only with a Shield Plus. I have a 9mm and 30sc Shield Pkus and I just bought another 30sc Plus from grab a gun. For 249 after the rebate, I said why not.
I've had some curiosity about the 30sc but didn't pull the trigger on it. Just not enough to abandon tried and true. To me, 30sc is for new buyers just getting into the CC market. What I would be interested in is a near 30 cal cartridge capable of firing from 5.7 platforms with a barrel change. Something that would be more adequate for personal defense but still have 5.7 capability when you want to run it.
The new one you couldn't remember is the Avidity PD10, which is a single stack. I believe they also plan on releasing a double stack they are developing chambered in 30 SC. I think the 30 SC will eventually catch on, like the 5.7x28mm did. I won't be selling my 30 SC Shield Plus any time soon!
Went the way of 10mm... it'll look dead, we'll think its dead, everyone will pronounce it dead... and then some large gun maker will come out saying 20plus rounds in a compact pistol and hits hard... (enough). As I've got enough .380, .38, 9mm, .357, .40, and 45 to most likely last me till the Lord takes me home... I'm probably not about to buy a new caliber. Well, maybe a .45 colt cause it's a .45 and if you buy the right gun you can shoot .45acp and .410 shot out of it and know it's strong enough to push up the colt loads to .45acp Oh... So that's how those rambles get out there 😆
I didn't understand the design in the first place. Were they trying to duplicate the 327 Federal in a pistol? Using 30 Carbine brass shortened by 3/10" would give a loaded overall length same as a 9MM. Brass and .308 bullets would be no problem for us case stuffers.
Did you ever order one of the MagGuts +3 extensions for the 10rd 9mm Plus magazine and install it in your 13rd 30sc Plus magazine? I’ve been using those for the last month and they’ve worked perfectly so far. Gives you 17rds of 30sc in that 13rd magazine.
It has two things that could make it do well 1. Reduced Recoil Rounds w better marketing for noobie shooters/females. 2. Uspsa/IDPA allow and full size comped pistols full power loads and 27ish round mags should also shoot very flat & track red dots well and has a very use need for Executive Protection preferablly w swing out Flux bracey things. Counter ambush effectice long range 70-120 yard targets w pistols. Think 365xl Flux or the 5" Arex Deltas being made for some Tier 1 team overseas.
I really want it to catch on but I believe it's effectively dead!!! Wish they had more guns chambered in it, because I don't want a shield at all. In fact, I know it was marketed for subcompacts and micros, but I want a Compact in 30SC. Think G19, Walther PDP compact, M&P 2.0 sized but with 20+ rounds in a flush fit mag! Can't believe nobody has capitalized. Just not enough things offered in 30SC
If the price isnt competitive with 9mm ammo its not gonna make it. I'm seeing brand new S&Ws in 30SC for $200 with their rebate. Its a cool round but its a very niche market, and only has very marginal benefits over 9mm
The 9mm kills handgun cartridges like 5.56 does the msr cartridges. It’s hard to gain enough advantage for what it’s meant to do to overcome the popular choice. As long as the 9 is in service in nato it will continue to do so. 30sc is a hard sell. Hope it doesn’t go away anytime soon.

Nothing they were saying at launch was accurate and they went out of their way to talk shit about it. The reality of 30sc is that it does exactly what 9mm does in ballistics gel testing, except you can get 3-6 more rounds of 30s in the same size 9mm handgun magazines. IT’S THE SAME ADVANTAGE 9MM HAS OVER 40 AND 45. CAPACITY WITH THE SAME CAPABILITY.
It's going to be a low priority for ammo manufacturers and in rough times , hard to get. It's a round that nobody asked for , and is not worth the investment if you already own 9mm.
Honestly during shortages I’ve found the oddballs easier to find than the common rounds. After sandy hook I could find 357 sig everywhere but 22, 9, 223, 40, and others were all but extinct.

You’re a smart man, you see the handwriting on the wall, I don’t think you’re crazy for trying the platform. Hell , I reload from .380 to 45 colt (for now) and people don’t understand why so many. It’s like kids or friends, they are all different and special in their own way.😀
I hope it's not dead. I tried it, picked up a Shield Plus in it. Wasn't for me. Not enough of a difference from 9mm to make it worth it to me. In the end I sold it to a off to a friend. However, there are many interested in this round. Would be nice if a company like say Taurus brought out a G series in 30 SC.
@@thegundungeon I think a GX4 would get the needle moving quickly. A GX4 XL or G3 would be another good option. Should be an adrenaline shot to the heart for this round.
@@thegundungeon Yeah the 38 TPC is a result of their new (mil)caliber restrictions. From what I recall it's a slight variation on the 9mm with performance slightly above 380. Although there are no plan for US importation. I've held the belief that Taurus is missing the boat here in the US with a decent capacity 380. So a GX4 in 380 IMO would be of interest and would compete nicely against the Ruger Security 380 & LCP Max.
Maybe… stay tuned, I have some insider stuff coming out. Working with hi point (strangely enough) on developing new loads with it using some pretty wild bullets.

You hit the cause of the problem--- no new guns or none of the really popular guns are chambered in it.
Maybe it will change, or maybe the round fades into the abyss lol. I’ll keep hoarding brass just in case lol 😂

They need a single stack. Same width as an lcp, with a bit more grip length.

The round's were overpriced so most people just stuck with 9 mm

I was looking at the acme bullets 100 grain rnfp sized 313. Is this what you’re using?
Yes round nose, it seats a bit wonky but works great.
