Beijing was the last Olympics to allow tech suits in swimming. Those things were awesome. I get why FINA banned them but I wish they would allow them under certain constraints (some could float with 10lbs weights on them that's way too much buoyancy) or as a separate category because those things made fast people even faster. Ha, ha, if that isn't the most idiotic statement I have ever heard about sports!! Greatest athlete of all time across all sports!!!! It's hard to even know where to start to answer you. Let's make it simple. Running is primal, a huge part of it is natural talent, some people are genetically born with some special characteristics which make them good at something so simple and purely athletic. Then you train. consistency, willpower and disciplina are important. And luck with no major injuries. And that's it. Do you want to know what insane skills are required to compete at high level in some other sports?? Not just raw athleticism, but also incredible, quick reactions, and insane coordination between eye-foot-hand-arm-tool? Random example, a tennis player? Sprinting/braking/sliding in multiple directions for 3-4 hours nonstop while hitting a relatively tiny ball to precise locations at speeds of over 100 miles per hour? Think about it, sprinting like crazy and hitting a ball as precisely as possible 10-15 MILLION times so that you can compete at the highest level? There should be a limit of 2-3 events participation only for all competitors Because in athletics you only get 1,2 or 3 events. Where as in swimming you see a single athlete able to participate in 8 to 9 events.

Thanks for the video! Although it focuses on the Summer Olympics, I think United States speed skater Eric Heiden (Lake Placid, 1980) should not be forgotten. Winning gold medals on both the sprint and the endurance disciplines is quite an achievement in this sport. I also think the United States women's artistic gymnastics team "The Magnificent Seven" (Atlanta, 1996) deserves an honourable mention. If I remember correctly, his outfit during one Olympic was banned due to giving too much of an advantage. I think it was hydrophobic or something. Phelps actually refused to swim again until they made the suits illegal.
If you classify the greatest Olympian by number of medals won, it will always be a swimmer or gymnast as no other sport offers the opportunity to win such large numbers of medals. There is no way to make this judgment, there are too many variables. I personally think Steve Redgrave’s achievement is as remarkable as Phelps or Bolt.
If this video was made after after paris olympics. The 1st spot would be taken by Pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis. The man who broken his own record 9th time.
the most important thing I saw was - all the countries best athletes - gave there best - too much of hard work and dedication - then only u achieve GOLD -
I would have put Phelps as 1, and Bolt as 2, as because Bolt had better performances later. Phelps' 8 gold medals will certainly never be repeated. And I want to add, the 2008 olympics were the greatest olympics ever, having multiple transcending moments.
@@mariatanya3533 LMAO!! Why would I want Phelps to be at the top cause he's American??? I'm not American, nor Jamaican. The fact you brought someone's nationality says more about your bias, than mine. And why 8 gold medals will not be repeated is, 1. You need to find 8 events that you can win gold in. 2. All those events need to be spread out perfectly with the schedule for you to not only be able to attend all of them, but be at your absolute best. 3. All of Phelp's time records have been broken already. Today's athletes are more specialised, rather than being the best at multiple disciplines, today's athletes are faster at specific races, not 8. In comparison, Bolt exploded on the scene winning both 100m and 200m in record time. That eventually will happen one day for someone else. There is zero conflict of schedules and plenty of rest period between the races.
@@pacus123 your opinion, fair enough. But quality? how many world records did Phelps break as well? world records are literally what they are, the world's best, ever. To say what Phelps' WRs mean less is a bit ignorant. "quality" also implies the improbability of something happening, so Phelps' achievement of 8 golds in addition to all those world records is just even more difficult.

Yes, power. The ability to synchronize your ballet dance moves with swimming in the water (upside down a lot) and creating art is extremely dangerous and you have to have some powerful lungs, core, back, and legs & arms to get it all right. nice vid i probably enjoyed it even more than you making it :D
Biles will soon be on 3rd here, she's on Bolt and Phelps league
the most important thing I saw was - all the countries best athletes - gave there best - too much of hard work and dedication - then only u achieve GOLD -
You should check your facts. Donovan Bailey's 9.84 was long gone by then. Furthermore nice video.
i think he was speaking about the Olympics Record
I would have put Phelps as 1, and Bolt as 2, as because Bolt had better performances later. Phelps' 8 gold medals will certainly never be repeated. And I want to add, the 2008 olympics were the greatest olympics ever, having multiple transcending moments.
Certainly never be repeated? Certainly? You just want Phelps at the top cause he's American
No hope in hell buddy. Bolt 1st. Daylight second.
Phelps quantity don't equal quality.
@@pacus123 Phelps Gold is quality and quantity LMAO
Emil Zatopek, Michael Johnson, Carl Lewis
Bolt and Spitz are the GOAT
Mijian lopez - 5 time Olympic gold medalist in 5 Olympics 17-20 years of dominance
Wow
Just learnt
As a kenyan, we got to be here, but there is a story of kipchoge keino in mexico games, the guy was having kidney stones, was in hospital, did prepare, went by bus to the venue, then won gold, I don't know the story perfectly as it happened but you can check it out
there will never be another usain bolt, his performances, his attitude, nobody will ever reach him
FloJo was juiced to the max.
There’s also that cashback offer. It’s a good fallback for when luck isn't on your side
What a great video! Thank you for including Bob Beamon of 1968! In my opinion , the greatest athletic achievement in history!
I'm almost inclined to agree. It was so much further than the previous WR. I wonder what made such a big difference
Where is naim suleymangulu The pocket Harcules......😮
I miss synchronized swimming. Edit: Nevermind. Apparently, it's called Artistic Swimming (as of 2017). It's kind of sad that they don't bother to air this awesome display of art and power. Yes, power. The ability to synchronize your ballet dance moves with swimming in the water (upside down a lot) and creating art is extremely dangerous and you have to have some powerful lungs, core, back, and legs & arms to get it all right. I WISH they'd broadcast this. I remember watching the 1984 Summer Games and my family and I were mesmerized. Kudos to anyone who does this for a living!
Extremely dangerous? Artistic swimming? How so?
Naim Süleymanoğlu should be on this list.! In my opinion at least number 3.! All respect
Bolt is 6'5" at least if not 6'6", not 6'4" and he beat his own record of 9.72s by 3/100ths not Donovan Bailey's 9.84s record from 1996
He's not 6'6 for sure. He's 6'5 or 6'4 I forgot which.
