Personally, I enjoy the new version more. If you go through the tombstone area, listening to the music on the musician's grave adds quite a nice touch to the theme, IMO.

When I got hired to work at Disneyland, I actually was worried I might end up at The Haunted Mansion because this music would creep me out. Now I look back and wish I could've gotten The Haunted Mansion and sport that green tuxedo. Oh ya, I ended up at Autopia LOL. "Please stay seated at all time with your seat belt fastened and do not bump the cars in front of you" LOL
My mother actually worked at The Haunted Mansion in WDW back in 1989. She said cast members themselves would often try to scare each other. Also, according to her the eeriest part about working the attraction was a small and dark hidden room with a desk made for cast member training use only.
Did you guys know that a majority of the music from the iconic ride, The Haunted Mansion, was played backwards?! The foyer in this video was played backwards by an expert organist, Gaylord Carter, to make it sound otherworldly to match the discord that Buddy Baker wanted in the foyer music! Also, part of the background music of grim grinning ghosts including the trumpet, jazz organ and flute part were played backwards to make it sound otherworldly to match the discord that Norman (Buddy) Baker wanted in the foyer music! They also used an out-of-tune oboe for the part in the background music for grim grinning ghosts and Buddy Baker told all the voice actors to act like they were mentally insane when speaking and singing! :D
Honestly, if they ever do another Haunted Mansion movie, (however unlikely, since the last one flopped) I think what they need to do is essentially do it in the format of one of those ghost-hunting shows, where it's essentially a gorup of hapless people exploring the mansion.
i used to decorate my basement all the time as a mini haunted mansion and would have this blasting from the computer speakers. Always loved this version over the disneyland version, so much creepier and cooler

Thats because its the instrumental version (or very close to) the graveyards "Grim Grinning Ghosts" just slowed down. Try this (I did it and its cool). Sing or play the song from the graveyards version of this song with this playing. If you did it correctly, it should sound very similar to the song. Hoped that helped. :)
Just wanted to say thanks for putting this together! I too was looking for just the organ music you hear in the foyer and not the whole ride soundtrack and couldn’t find it anywhere on YT. Funny though, because I found it on YT a couple of years back. Anyway, I would agree with you that you had the sharpest looking uniform in Disneyland with that green tuxedo, but I would argue that the conductor’s uniform on the Disneyland Railroad came close! 😉
For some odd reason, when I play this song when my dog is laying next to me, she will turn her head around and try and bit my phone or she will get up and walk away. It's weird, cause she doesn't do that with other songs, just this one
so one time when i was a disney world, when i was in third grade my family and i went into the haunted mansion ride. one of the workers went up to me and asked if i wanted to help them. and i said yes. they put me in a green dress and when you walk in i told everyone to " drag your body to the dead center of the room" !! such a cool experience of behind the scenes of the most magical place on earth!!

I think there were people complaining that the low pitch was the original and that the normal pitch was added later, but all the old videos I hear (generally early nineties, although that's when internet complainers were most likely to be children) have the high pitch. This recording is a large part of why I like the WDW version of the ride best! The music is much more ominous and imposing, where the one heard at Disneyland is a bit more whimsical, in my opinion.

That's pretty good except that you can't put an oboe "out of tune." That's why all orchestras tune to the oboe because it can't be adjusted.

This is my favorite redition of the music. I only wish I could have Paul Frees continually narrate varous spookiness over it.
