    Thanks for letting me know about the black wire connection to the positive to indicate a lithium battery 👍👍

    Very helpful and reassuring thanks.. I'm charging lithium and I'd figured I could just connect the little black wire to the critical consumers port instead of taking it to the battery positive. 👍

    A really useful vid. Thank you for posting. I was worried that I was using the wrong wires as was expecting a thicker wire from the van battery to the CTEC but can now see I've routed the correct ones. Phew! More vids would be great as the only other source of good info is Combe Valley Campers.

    Thanks for you review! I do have one remaining question: Is the CTEK D250SE ECE certified which makes installation much easier for legal reasons

    hello. my setup in my camper is the ctek 250se charging two 120ah lead acid batteries via the smart alternator. I also have on the roof a flexible 150 watt solar panel with a maximum power voltage of 18.5 volts , max power current 8.2 amps and voc of 21.5 volts which is connected to the unit through the mppt. The pdf of the ctek says the unit will manage 300 watts solar cells. I'm thinking of adding another flexible solar panel of exactly the same specs from the same manufacturer (firefly energy) which I'm going to connect in parallell. would the ctek be okay for this?

      That should be fine, I don't think it will cause an issue setting it up like that.

    Hi, I have solar flex batteries.. can I still use the ctek/how shall I connect the black and red wires that come out on the side of the ctek?

    • @rayneautomotive5834
      @rayneautomotive5834  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say that the CTEK should be fine to charge them, it would depend on whether it's a wet or AGM one as to the best place to connect the red/black wires.

    I found this very interesting..
    However whilst camping in my transporter and on a 240 volt hook-up for 2 nights, when I went to start my vehicle the starter battery was flat..
    I've reached out to ctek but so far I have not received a response.
    Any idea what could be causing this problem..
    Thanks very much

      Hello, I’m sorry you’re having a problem with this. It’s usually 1 of 2 things.
      The first is that the switch live cable from the ctek is actually connected to a permanent live, meaning the charger is running continuously.
      Second is that if the main battery was a bit low, all of the opening doors, interior lights etc over a weekend of not moving can flatten the battery.
      The easiest way to tell is once the van battery has been charged, you can leave the engine turned off and check the ctek for lights. The bottom right hand light should be off. If it’s on, then it’s the charger taking the power from the main battery. If it’s off then it’s more likely to be the battery was a bit low.
      I hope this helps.
      James.

      Thank you for your very quick response
      I will check the ctek activity light and cable.
      To be honest i did leave the door open for some time whilst camping,...
      You would imagine that there is a way to disable the lights coming on/off to prevent this sort of thing.
      I'm probably not the first to encounter this problem.
      Thanks again

    hiya
    can I ask, when one of these units is fitted to a euro 6 alternator and two lead acid batteries and then run through t a camper switch panel.. what voltage should be on the panel readout? -ie when egine is off. thanks

    • @rayneautomotive5834
      @rayneautomotive5834  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, with the engine off and no solar output, you should get the battery voltage, which should be between 12.0-13.2V
      Once you start the engine this should go up, peaking at 14.4V in wet lead acid mode. Then dropping when the batteries are full into float mode at 13.5V
      Hope this helps, James.

      @@rayneautomotive5834 my voltage panel doesn't go above 12.5 even when the engine is running. I've watched the ctek and when no engine is on I get a slow flashing green light. When the engine runs I get a solid green light for about two seconds and then the two yellow lights briefly light up then go out. I'm wondering if this is because the batteries are fully charged and so no need for a charge. Sorry to mither.im.starting to get paranoid the car electrician fitted the stuff wrongly.

      @@parkay3560 Hi Kenny, something's up for sure there. It sounds like the charger isn't coming on. I'd check the CTEK negative and also the thin red ignition signal (D+) cable are fitted correctly. These are the two most common causes of the charger not working. After that I have a few troubleshooting procedures I can send to you. Pop onto our website and fill out a contact form, then I can send you the troubleshooting information. Thanks, James.

    Is this charger enough for 100AH battery or i need to buy smartpass 120A ?

    • @rayneautomotive5834
      @rayneautomotive5834  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, this will be fine for a 100Ah battery, after about 200-250Ah, then the smartpass becomes very useful. If it's lead-acid or AGM, then this would be fine for a 100Ah battery.
