    Don't memorize openings until you are a master. It is a waste of time for lower rated players and disgraceful to suggest otherwise.

    Im not a chess player but it seems like as soon as you start using more time to make a move you start putting yourself at a disadvantage as the other person also gets to use your time to think and so the opponent doesn't really need to use up a lot of his time because hes doing a lot of the thinking in your turn. So then towards the end the opponent will have a lot of free time to spend per move and you are left rushing.

    Why offer upp the bishop as Magnus does at about 3:14? If the black bishop would take the white bishop, in the next move, Magnus can´t take the bishop other then by using the queen, but then the black queen can take the white queen without sacrificing it.

    I am probably missing some context here but I have found it very disturbing that two players one in front of the other do not play on a board...
    ...or do not even shake hands at the end
    I'm not even 30 and this made me feel old

      You only get a couple of seconds per move and as soon as you play a move, the game position progresses and Carlsen can play in between. You can't just prolong the game without actually playing

      Chess my friend has always been over the board-face to face.
      This is why the World Championship never changes-and why, presumably Nepo lost.
      He couldn’t handle the pressure and retreated to a tv screen in a green room.
      You’re a weaker player and individual if you cannot face your opponent.
      It’s a physical match as much as mental acuity.
      Gary Kasparov did this with precision-and I am no fan of his, however he was the picture perfect portrait of intensity and what chess means.
      He dominated his opponents physically with his presence and then, and only then did he show is brilliance in attacking.
      That’s hard to thwart.
      You have your, albeit..limited understanding and opinion of chess and grammar-but I did listen.

    The craziest thing about this match is that magnus played the whole game so quick that he had over 10 from his 15 minutes left while giri played nearly the whole endgame on his increment.

      @ Obviously it is different but when you're preparing openings you look through the whole game and how games like that go. So you get similar themes. For instance, in the Catalan you often want to push your queen-side pawns in the endgame. Etc.

      That's the engine's evaluation of the position. Basically a superhuman chess program looking at the game and telling us which player has the advantage currently.
