Because a lot of great MC's of a certain age aren't appreciated. Something that stuck with me is that someone said is that rap is the only genre where the fans will say someone is washed or old. No matter if they're saying some of the illest shit ever on a verse. Their old and or new shit is Killing sht that many current rappers are saying. While every other genre's groups that are seasoned can tour forever w/o the same negative sentiment. Smh.

And that's why hip hop is declining because ngas on to really don't have nothing to say. It sounds good(ngas like Future,Moneybagg etc.) Ngas are not uplifting the culture.✌🏿
I hear you, but its a lil deeper than that. If you look back in the 80's NY was all independent as well. From Sugarhill and Enjoy to Tommy Boy, Def Jam, Jive, all the independent labels before and during the birth of the Golden Era were blowing up when the majors swooped in with the big money contracts that nobody was reading and old school tactics of ripping artists off. If my memory serves me correctly it was around '89-90 when you started seeing the slashes, Jive/RCA, Def Jam/Columbia, etc. There was no blueprint. Everybody wanted to get a deal. Like the big R&B artist. We had to live through a whole generation of that before the next school and the combination of the internet/social media/and the advancement of at-home production technology got artist doing shit on their own.
The industry decided to expand rap because of money. Rap was only about 20 years old when the south started popping. It was timing and lack of communication, no internet. Nobody was hating we just had our own great shit
