  • Guy the Tool Guy, here. Bandsaw blade tracking is over-complicated way too often, so I wanted to make a simple tutorial of how to properly track your bandsaw blade, adjust the tension, and square your bandsaw table to the blade. If you found this helpful, subscribe for more upcoming videos on all things woodworking from tutorials, in-depth reviews, and product first-looks!

    Just bought this band saw (first one) and have watched several videos on how to set it up, tracking, etc. This video and explanation is the single best one I have seen. It really helps that you have good camera angles and close-ups of the saw blades as you explain what you are doing. Well done my friend! God bless!

    Great video. My blade sits perfect and as much as I spin it manually it stays bang on centre. However as soon as I run it on the motor the blade comes off after a second or so!

    Hi thank so much for this video, everything so well explained and presented, I am completely new to bandsaws, my first set up, I had followed the instructions on the suppliers video and had the saw running until yes the blade came off, I was able to get it sorted thanks to this video, also the tips for setting the bearings are fantastic more detailed than the suppliers, so hopefully I will get sawing and creating now.
    I was looking forward to watch the rest of the videos in the series, so I hope all is well.
    Take care

    Nice and simple.
    I have had guidance about the surface of the wheels being a bevel and that the gullies of the blade should be in clear air so just off centre? Is this true?

  • @guyportier7795
    @guyportier7795 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Steve F. I thought about including that in the video. I might add it or do follow up. Narrower width blades should be about center as the teeth on them are not so pronounced. The larger width blades can go further to the rear with the teeth just forward of the wheel crown or as you said the bottom of the gullets. Thanks for asking. Let's me know how to do a better job in communicating.

    I just bought some trouble a Delta 18” with two knobs for blade tracking. The manual is no help. It just says turn both knobs equal amounts.. Great! That’s real help full. Nothing about both clockwise or counterclockwise, or one clockwise and other counterclockwise. Or hints on turns to track the blade forward or backwards. Can anyone help haven’t found a video with two adjustments knobs?

    nice video, i have an old beaver bandsaw, For some reason, the blade needs to be riding the back side of the top wheel, any ideas why?

  • @terryleewayman9942

    I just picked up an old wards bandsaw.
    the first thing I did was to clean and paint it up.
    I had taken the top wheel off before the blade was running true. now it drifts and comes off within a few turns. adjusting does not seem to help.
    the tires are cracked and worn they are on the way here along with a new blade.
    not wanting to wait on my new parts I went and tried to put the old blade back on.
    last time I had done anything with a bandsaw was around 10th grade and although I passed its been a long time and need a refresher on the use and maintenance of a band saw.
    I had ordered rubber tires that is what is on it now.
    the tires are 12 inches and the blade is 78 inches long. the old blade is about 1/4 wide and I ordered one that is Magnate M78T58T4 Meat Bandsaw Blade, 78" Long - 5/8" Width, 4 Tooth, 0.025" Thickness.
    I was not sure of the length at the time I ordered it looks to be 77 3/4 hopefully it will adjust to fit.

    I have a question for you about my craftsman 14" bandsaw. The saw is set up like you said, and it has made this sound since new. The wider the blade the worse the thump and louder the noise. It's a thump and wining sound. I have checked all the blade guides, nothing wrong with them or the blade. It doesn't matter what blade I put on the saw. It does get louder when trying to resaw a wider board. Do you have any ideas?

    Guy...great video and teaching ....thank you. Question on my Jet JWBS 14SFX when I set up with a 3/16 blade.....I track it in the middle of the tire by hand and also by turning it on.....and every thing is all good, but then in the middle of cutting out a bandsaw box the blade has completely come forward and slides right off the wheel. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong? or what the issue can be? Driving me nuts! My guides are all set up properly .....I'm thinking my tension is good. But still have that issue of the blade losing its tracking when cutting a pattern/bandsaw box.

    Thanks, Guy. I like the tape idea. I have the same saw and the quick tension arm is loose in the off position. Wheel seems out of position. Have you had this kind of problem?

    So long as my blade isn't drifting, it doesn't have to lay center in on the wheel? Mine lays further to the back.

    I am having a heck of a time getting the bandsaw blade on my jet 14” JWBS-14sfx model bandsaw. I have literally tried everything to get the blade to stay in the middle. When pressure is applied while sawing the blade tracks to the rear of wheel. This causes the blade to loosen. When sawing stops the blade travels near to center again but not exactly in same place when started. I am using a Timberwolf 3/8 6tpi blade with a fine kerf. Saw unusable for a week now with approximately 3 hours total use since purchase last year. Any suggestions. This has been very frustrating to say the least for such a bragged about bandsaw.

    Hi Guy. I'm having real trouble getting the bottom wheel to track in the center. No matter what I seem to do it wants to drift to the front side. I've even readjusted the bottom wheel alignment according to the manufacturer And it's still drifts to the front. The bandsaw blade is one full width ahead of the center of the table slot. I noticed your video shows it dead center. I can't turn the throat plate around it would tear into the saw blade. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Appreciated. Sorry to be long-winded. Great video, thanks

    Where are you making adjustments?

  • @carpo719
    @carpo719 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    starts off with 'the quick and easy way' - proceeds to bust out a micrometer :D
    In all jest. Most guys I know don't have one of those, but thanks nonetheless!
    I have an old RAM bandsaw, and no matter what I do, it will not track right. I think the tracking knob might be broken, but cannot figure out how. It looks fine
    EDIT- funny guy, saw you removed the micrometer lol

  • @matthewdrake9699

  • @jimboone3390
    @jimboone3390 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have an old Craftsman band saw. It has about 3 degree drift - I adjusted the tracking on the blade and it is dead center. It did not solve the problem. I also adjusted the table. It helped but the table doesn't have enough adjustment to solve the problem.

    What is your opinion on blade position on the top wheel? There seems to be different schools of thought on what I've read or seen online. One thought is that the band should be centered on the wheel. Another is that the bottom of the gullets should be centered on the wheel. And yet another is that the tips of the teeth should be centered.

    I can’t keep my band saw blade running straight. I rocks back and forth. Not side to side. I’ve changed the blade and it’s still doing it. There’s no videos on TH-cam on how to fix that issue.

    How do you get a 1/8" blade to track? I've got 2 hours so far and all i have managed to do is swear quite a bit. That doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions???

    • @patprop74
      @patprop74 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hahahah i am battling with that now, the only way I can get it to stay on is if it is riding the back edge of the top wheel.

    • @Fogwoman
      @Fogwoman ปีที่แล้ว

      I put my left hand behind the bottom of the top wheel and pull or push it until the 1/8" blade tracks in the center, then I tighten the tilt adjuster. Takes only a few seconds!!

    Maybe simple but doesn't address the problem of the blade coming off the bottom wheel!

  • @TheOneAndOnlySame
    @TheOneAndOnlySame ปีที่แล้ว

    At work we have a Jet almost like this one and no amount of tinkering it makes it cut straight: the blade invariably twist and start cutting to the right (we're cutting AL )
    Quite frankly, those saws are very cheap looking and feeling, thin and wobbly . We also have an old 1970's Syderic band saw (french manufacturer ) and it cuts straight as a laser and requires no playing left and right with this or that gizmo. It's also mostly cast iron , weighs a proverbial ton and doesn't wobble.
    Much better tool.

    By listening to him talk I get the sense this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about or why he’s doing what he’s doing. Now that I’ve completed the video, I’m sure of it. Too many awkward pauses, very few close up shots, lack of using the proper terms and his skimming over certain subjects (details) and worst of all…no theory on why you’re doing what you’re supposed to do. And by the way, that was a dial indicator not a micrometer.
