  • A look around this abandoned army camp in Fremington.
Established in 1942 as a military hospital accommodating over 800 beds & later converted into a barracks/military camp.
The camp remained in use until closure in late 2009, the remaining buildings have an outdated feel, the site awaits clearance & new housing development.

I remember the bridge before they made it safe and nice, we used to play there all the time as kids. Great video takes me back 36 years :)

I stayed there in Feb `88 while on adventure training with the junior parachute company. I remember that river the most as we had to strip down to our undies & swim to the other side & back. Also abseiled from that tower.

Did a breif spell here after coming home from Iraq in 91. Served with 22 SAS and then onto The household Division after i was commisioned. Was then appointed Comlany OC in the balkans where we performed to a very high standard.Shame its gone though. They'll never produce soldiers as good as me ever again. Good memories.

I lived there many times, mostly to take part in army training. Thousands of people must have lived there over the decades.

09:30 I remember climbing that, being the first time it sank in as a kid in Cadets, when someone said "Don't Look Down" that you automatically do.

I went here during training in 2006 for 5 days adventurous. Its kinda creeped me out watching this because me and the men got thrashed on concrete in the centre after getting to pissed and fighting lol. Also the door with girl/boy in shower I remember that. Its a shame it closed down it was beautiful when we went. The water tower we all zip lined down that and everyone who already went down was waiting at the bottom with buckets of water and that. This has proper creeped me :(.

My friend and I were asked to go the barracks in about 1978 as we were cooks in a college, and during the hoildays we went to co cook for the cadets from the school, being the only 2 females on the camp we were given the "Officers Quarters " to stay in everything was fine until we went for a shower then each time we showered we could hear squadrons of planes going overhead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Went there adventure training mid 90s and our instructors give a certain few of us the code for the back gate so we could go the pub down the road , we got hammered and the next morning the bastards had us do a BFT first thing , fucking puking and farting all the way . Great memories of that place

Such a waste. Purpose built for the military. We will sometime rue the day we have such a depleted standing army and weak defence.

What a huge place.................... they say we have a housing issue.................... yet we have large areas of ground abandoned like this with either Army or Medical sites sitting on them................. The land should be cleared and affordable housing should be built.................. selling some to raise money for either the armed forces or NHS, and others should be used to clear the waiting lists for homes.
