      TAICU, actually I believe audio engineering will always be important to study because not every artist is interested in learning the ins and outs of music production, so that will always keep people like yourself employed. When I lived in Nashville, one of my neighbors who used to write songs told me "As long as you know how to work the boards, you'll always have a job". And he was right.

You get thrown into situations where you’ll walk into a room, meet people for the first time, and they’ll just be like “alright show us what you got”. And then you just play something until they like it enough to stop you lol

    • @eman0828
      @eman0828 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I guess you mean Beat Maker aka Songwriter or Composer. Oak is both a Songwriter and a Record Producer. Producers have nothing to do with making beats as that's a management directing role in the studio. I do both roles my self just like Oak. When Oak is making beats hes wearing the Composer's hat, when hes not making beats, hes working with his artist in the studio one on one wearing the Producer's hat. Some times hes wearing both hats at the same time like he did with this song. Most Hip Hop Producers started out as Beat makers before taking over the acting role as a Producer as they are generally credited twice for both roles. Scott Storch is also a Songwriter/Producer. Here's what he has to say. *"In terms of working with the artist or vocalist, you know its important to come back and stay through with that, if you're going to call yourself a producer on a track. You know, you don't want to be just a track maker. To be a Producer, you wanna follow through and you know, push the artist and get the best record possible because its only going to help you. A Real Producer sees the whole thing through and has input through the whole vision of the record, from you know, what the melody is going to be on top, you know you, at least collaborate with some body on that, have an input on that, you know, sit there behind the board, trying to get a good vocals out of somebody, you know, or at least monitor the situations.- Scott Storch"* [Source: New Interview With Scott Storch 2015 Beat Camp]

    • @KaizerMan
      @KaizerMan 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eman 08 What are you talking about??? “Producers have nothing with making beats”
      I agree with a lot of what you say in that comment like there is defo a difference between producer, beat-maker, songwriter, etc and Scott Storch is a songwriter-producer yes, but saying producers have nothing to do with making the beat is ridiculous.

    • @eman0828
      @eman0828 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kiazer-Man Dude, its pretty self explanatory. You just don't understand what a Producer is and what they actually do. I do both roles myself as a Record Producer and Beat maker just like Oak. The Traditional role of a Record Producer has NOTHING to do with making beats. They "Direct and Oversee" the vision of an entire record. P-Diddy is a Producer and he doesn't make beats. Chris Lord-Alge is a Producer and he doesn't make beats. Beyonce Knowles, Missy Elliott and Mary J. Blige are acting role Vocal Producers and Executive Producers and they don't make beats either. Beat makers are "Songwriters" which is an entirely different role. Record Producers generally hire people to work for them. They generally hire songwriting and production teams, session musicians, string conductor and Engineers to work for them. If a Record Producer is heavily involved in the "Songwriting" process such as providing the beat or writing the lyrics then they are an acting dual role Record Producer and Songwriter. About 90% of all well known Hip Hop & R&B Producers are Songwriter's & Record Producer's esp Scott Storch, Rodney Jerkins, Bryan-Michael Cox, Pharrell Williams etc. Hip Hop Producers are generally more involved in the songwriting process of a the record such as providing the beat compared to a Rock Producer that would only direct & oversee the record that is only credited as "Producer" and nothing else. Hip Hop Producers are often credited as both "Producer" and "Writer" in production credits. If all you do is make beats and that's it, you are nothing more than just a Beat Maker aka a Writer or Composer.

      I studied recording engineering and when it came to mixing, (basically smack dab in the middle of my schooling) “just turning knobs” was actually a technical technique. Sometimes you don’t always know what sound you want. Much of the production process is just turning knobs until more precision is needed. Gotta learn sometime xD

      SAILOR MANe. All you mean is it’s a Pop song with modern Hip Hop influences
      Saying it’s a London on the Track/DJ Mustard rip off is an extremely inaccurate stretch. Especially since DJ Mustard’s signatures are 3 things really: finger-snaps, offbeat ‘what’ vocal shouts throughout & fat saw wave synth bass.
      This song only has the finger-snap which is the least important of his 3 giveaway’s anyway. Something like Kanye & Lil Pump’s new song may be a Mustard rip off or Iggy Azalea - Fancy, but this is just you hating on a song because it lends similarity to a sound that’s very popular right now. Not a rip-off & still a great song produced very well.

Growing up I only ever heard the singers talk about the songs, but you knew full well the majority didn't have a part in the production/making of the song. WOW. Best video I've seen in forever! 😵😍🙌 First off, as soon as I heard this song I was instantly captured, it's just ridiculously good and I also love the gospel and RnB vibe. Always loved Demi's voice as well. Second of all, I knew I had to find who wrote the song just to know who this person was. That's when I found Oak Felder and I was instantly captured by his personality and locked in to his powerful, soft charisma and the presence he just brings... that of a person who knows God and seems to have suffered a great deal. The kind of person you just wanna sit and wait for them to open their mouth and tell you something, give you a insight into their thoughts and experiences, knowledge and also wisdom. On top of this, I'm very interested in music production and have been reading and watching so much of the creative process behind the making of pop songs - which I just love. That's why I listened to every word of his instructions like it was pure gold. I'm also so impressed and in awe by the fact that he wants to progress art as a whole and doesn't care about keeping those things secret to help some people stay on top and others to not progress, that's wonderful in a way that I love soo much! And to know that this song came about in 30 minutes, that's mindblowing!! That kinda seems like some kind of miracle to me 😄👏🙌 Thank you for making this video, it was awesome!! Love from Sweden

I made a short cover of sorry, not sorry on GarageBand, using the same gospel/piano that you showed us in the beginning of the video, turned out pretty well.

    Great Job! 1 point.... Ducking is only attenuation by the set amount. You're not ducking Out, the 808 is still there. The same as using the side chain; However, this plug-in gives you more control by targeting specific frequencies. I will add it to my tool box. Thanks for the lesson Professor Felder. One thing I would love Splice to do, is for the producer to somehow screencast their recording. So we are hearing the before and after of instruments through their actual computer, instead of a camera mic listening to the producers speakers. If that makes sense. I think there is a small hardware device that you can plug into an audio interface that can record it (while also going through his speakers) so the editor can edit the sounds in later, so the producer will not have to download any software or do anything.
    I hope this makes sense. But it will just be so much more helpful. I don't even write this type of music, but I always love to watch how different artists produce their tracks.

    For producers out there who don't have that sidechain plugin, you can also do the EQ specific ducking technique with a multiband compressor by isolating your low end frequency in the multiband and sidechaining it to a kick.

    • @eman0828

      I guess you mean beat makers and composers? Producers have nothing to do with making beats or mixing or anything like that. Oak is what you call a Songwriter/Producer as hes both a composer of tracks and a record producer for directing and overseeing the overall whole production. He wears two different hats as hes a real producer when is not making beats. Producers work with the artist in the studio, they coach the artist how they want them to rap or sing, they are involved in vocal and song arrangment. Producers are similar to Film Directors as they tell you what to do as they are the big boss in the studio that hire's and directs a team of writers, engineers, beat makers and musicans that work for them. Most Hip Hop Producers started out as Beat makers before they took over the acting role as a Record Producer. Thats why Oak, Timbaland, J.R Rotem, Scott Storch, Dr. Dre, Pharrell Williams, Rodney Jerkins or Bryan Michael Cox are even called "Producer's" in the first place because they are all real producers when they aren't making beats. They are all often credited twice in production credits as both Writer and Producer for both roles. Beat Makers are credited as Writer, Composer or Programming in production credits as they fall under the songwriting umbrella.
      Producer=Director
      Songwriter/Composer=Beat Maker

    • @eman0828
      @eman0828 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dgv3584 Glad I was able to clear some things up. I know alot people out there often get beat making mixed up with Producer. The term Producer is often misued and abused in the music industry. Many young people making beats that are comming up often confuse themselfs calling themselves producers when they haven't educated thier self on the role of a record producer and what they acutally do. I think the misconception comes from seeing Dr. Dre, Timbo or Pharrell Williams making beats and assumed thats what a Producer was and what they do, when in reality they don't realize they are wearing a completely different hat thats unrelated to their role as a Producer. Most people are unware that these guys were wearing two different hats the whole time all these years. Most people never really saw a video of Pharrell Williams or Dr. Dre working in the studio with the artist directing when they aren't making beats as they don't just only make beats. Pharrell Williams working in the studio with Justin Timberlake is a great example of the role as a Producer. While Justin is writing to Pharrells beat, they are both colaborating on ideas as Pharrell gives Justin ideas how Justin should sing a certain way or what the melody should sound like. Pharrell is the director in charge that sits behing the mixing board along side his engineer while Justin is in the vocal booth. There quite a few vidoes here on youtube of behind the scenes of Justins Justified album with Timbo, Scott Storch and Pharrell in the studio working with Justin. I've been a beat maker myself since 2004 as I started out a very old ass version of FL Studio called fruity loops at the time before they changed the name to FL Studio with version 4.0. I then moved on to Propellerheads Reason 4.0 and hardware such as an MPC, Yamaha Motif and The Fantom X etc. I didn't become a Producer until 2008 working directly with my very first artist one on one. I've learned alot from my own artist on becoming a producer since he writes, sings, makes his own beats and produce. Hes a very experienced singer as he worked with P-Diddy back in the early 2000s as he was part of MTV Making The Band 2 back then. Before I was a Producer I normally would send beats off to people, but made mistakes and gotten burned not getting paid for my beats or fully paid. Now that I've been a Producer for the past 10 years, I always worked directly with the artist and make them sign Producer/Artist contract agreements. A lot of beat makers these days are kinda wearing the Engineers hat while they compose beats like what you mentioned about side chain compression esp in todays modern era of DAWs as normally thats the Mix Engineers job like Tony Maserati. Normally when its time to add vocals, the Mix Engineer would need the multi STEM tracks of your beat that needs to be bounced or tracked out so they can mix the beat and the vocal as if it were a band as one session.
