Just a word of advice. Wear ear plugs when scrubbing the hulls. A few yachties have had small sea creatures from the growth end up in their ears which was a world of pain as it crawled deep inside. André
We actually often do. Guess we don’t bother mentioning it in the video 😂 we were lucky this time that we had very few creepy crawlies on the hulls this time but we’ve had a fair few in the past.
Best recommended practice is to pour a little alcohol into your ear and those guys come right out without causing too much pain. “Ear Beer” is a handy potion to have around the boat when you dive as much as we do

ever thought of getting Coppercoat on your hulls , they say done properly it lasts 10 years ...... that's 8 less haul outs so would save you a fair bit
😂 we actually do have coppercoat. You can see how the application went back in an earlier episode… th-cam.com/video/XYiDvVAM6q0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Gz5zeKgNthiIj0jH
Hello fellow sailors, I love the tool you’re using to scrub with and the hooka is a great idea! Something to try is a toilet plunger to pull yourself to the hull is more efficient than your fins. Cut the handle on the plunger to about a foot and if you can screw a wooden ball on the end will help. Just push the handle to the side to detach from the hull.
Hey, it’s a great idea to use something to hold closer to the hulls. We used to have some of those “window cleaner” suckers that were similar to a plunger, they failed on us but perhaps we should give a basic plunger a shot next time.
It’s a good idea but unfortunately most of these electrical units are not salt water ready and unable to be used at any depth. That’s why we went searching for the SEA Scrubber
😊 I mean, saying nice things like that will just keep us making episodes. 😂 Thanks for the kind words. It’s been a wild ride to say the least. Kind of crazy to think we got this far. You never know, going solo might be the way to hook yourself a prize catch.
Congratulations on 10k subscribers. I knew you'd make it. Im happy to have been along for most of your vlogs. Way to go. 100k is going to be right around the corner. I'd love to get dropped off on that beach. What a beautiful place. You guys need to get an extra one of those scrubbers so you can whip that bottom twice as quick.
Mate! Thank you for being part of the adventure. It’s been a long ride but can’t wait to see what happens next. Just think. If everyone shared with one other person, we would be 20k already! 😂
And we are working up to buying a second scrubber. We have some really fun ideas in the works around hull cleaning but it will take a while to show I think.
Thank you! We still can’t believe it. Here’s hoping this is the start of something big and we will be celebrating reaching a sustainable channel before long. 🤞🏼
Yeah, we haven’t seen many people doing that on boat’s the size of Indi. That said, we actually can’t as the Leopard 47 is designed with sacrificial keels and they aren’t meant to take the full weight of the boat anyway. In this part of the world at least, we don’t find many Sandy beaches that are exposed at low tide. Mostly the beaches are made up of broken coral so we would cause quite a bit of damage to our coppercoat if we could anyway 😂
Hi guys, wow that new machine looks fantastic. Anything that help to live on the water and makes it easier. It’s a good thing even that little Aqua compressor thingy looks fantastic. Keep up the good work guys. Really appreciate you both and I absolutely love your Videos , Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
What a difference it has made too. The scrubber has made cleaning the boat, both another and below the water, way more fun and easier too. Really pleased we are able to share it with everyone. Some more fun toys in the works too. Sit tight.
Yeah, we have been so impressed by it. Suddenly we can clean the hulls without feeling like we need a day off after. It’s been good for cleaning the deck too. Thanks for hanging out with us this week. And taking the time to drop a comment. Cheers!
Nice! Yeah the fairway team built the original design for pools and aquariums I think. They have been busy working on more boat specific designs but I can’t see why the original wouldn’t work to help keep the hulls spotless too. Just make sure to rinse town that switch if it’s not magnetic.
The piggy bank is looking a little empty again for sure. But how much easier is cleaning the boat now! The scrubber has been a total revelation. Aching arms and having to sleep off CO2 levels all gone. It just feels like cheating 😂
Gotta clean it periodically and it will be much easier than cleaning it once a month all the rust stains on that boat need to be took care of polish every 2 weeks and a scrub once a week and the hulls once a week that's what works for me and my boat stays spotless unless on passage
Haha yeah I mean we pretty much live on passage but I’m pleased to say that those rust marks are long gone now. The scrubber has been a massive help in staying on top of the cleaning. Expect to see a steady improvement week on week as we get around everything. 😊
The company originally made a scrubber for cleaning swimming pools before designing this one for salt water so there’s no reason not to grab one. We have been using it all over the boat, inside and out. 😊
Hey, we have a few videos on this if you are looking for the details but the summery is 2.2kw of solar. The hard top has 8x175w flexible panels (each with their own mppt) and the davits have 4x200w fixed panels paired up to two larger MPPTs. This worked out best to ensure every panel performs its best when shading occurs and no one panel drags down the rest.
Did you guys do a follow up to episode 72 on the copper coat? Does it work in the tropics? I don't have time to watch through the entire TH-cam but am interested in your experience if you have a reference or short summary somewhere. I'm still on the hardstand and deciding between Jotun and Coppercoat right now. Thanks for any feedback
We’ve been checking in on it every so often and actually just made a playlist with each of those episodes to make it a bit easier. I know you didn’t want to watch everything but hopefully these 4 episodes will help narrow it down for you. COPPERCOAT (Leopard 47 application & review) th-cam.com/play/PLdgN4dpp1LqniSkWb9cW95ePUBwc92a72.html
All in all we are really happy with it. I think it is a bit of luck as to the results you will get and in our case, we don’t haul out very often at all so we wanted a solution that would let us stay in the water year after year. With the Coppercoat correctly burnished after application, it is great at keeping the growth to only slime. In Colombia, it was overwhelmed with barnacle growth so we have the white dots remaining now which we should really clean off to get it back to fully “happy” but as you will have seen in the scrubber episode, we aren’t struggling either it and probably only clean the hulls of soft growth every few months here in the tropics.
Delos has something like that. And check out the episode of Cruising Kiwis (the one with…”New Boat! Portofino 52” thumbnail ). Their friend gave them Ivermectin to add to their bottom paint. It greatly reduced growth on their hulls. Usually veterinarians have this because they use it to kill parasites in pets.
Yeah there are a few alternatives. I believe Delos use the Nemo which is over $1000. This one is so much more affordable and that’s why we thought people would want to know about it. Also easier to store and keep charged. Will have to look up ivermectin. Never heard of that.we have coppercoat so it’s not something we have to repaint every year and it doesn’t leech chemicals into the environment the same way traditional antifoul paints do.
How long does the little scrubber work on a single charge and is the battery able to be changed? If it has a separate battery it would be simple to just change the battery with a back up spare. Also like replaceable batteries because you don’t need to throw away the entire tool just because the battery is bad. First video I’ve viewed and I subscribed. Thanks.
Hi, thanks so much for subscribing. Hope you enjoy the adventure. Plenty to go back and check out if you’re looking to see how we got here too. We have seen the battery last over an hour which has been great as we tend to want to take a break around then and let it charge while we warm up and get a drink. Replaceable batteries would be cool but I guess this way there is zero chance of water ingress and damage. Sadly it feels like internal batteries have become more of a standard in electronics (phones, headphones etc) but lifepo4 has a pretty long recharge life span so at $250 it’s going to be pretty good value for money.
Absolutely! We managed to clean the port side as it is easy to reach when the dinghy is up on the davits but REALLY need to spin it around and finish the job. 😂 never ending process.
We think so. It’s been super useful for us. We are in the Tuamotus of French Polynesia. You can check out some of our previous episodes if you want to see a bit more of them too. This weeks episode we are sailing on a quest to find a Black Pearl

Hi Mechael, thanks for hanging out with usb I’m pleased to say that we have managed to open up our shipping options to include canada! If you head over to the website Red-seas.com/fairway you should be able to order one there direct to your place in Canada or the US. If you have any trouble, just drop me an email and I’ll do my best to work it out. 😃
A few people have asked about that. We actually do wear plugs. On this occasion we didn’t have much in the way of creepy crawlies so wasn’t such an issue but we have shown in previous episodes just how far we will go to avoid those guys getting to us.
We have been getting over an hour in a single charge. Kind of ideal as we usually want to get out of the water for a drink after that long and we just drop it on charge for a bit.
It’s a whole different world but so rewarding. Perhaps some day that dream can become a reality. Until then we will continue trying to share what it is actually like to life and travel on a sail boat.
We actually dropped the hook here in last weeks episode. It’s called Raraka. A rarely visited atoll most people sim for Fakarava and so it’s a little slice of isolated heaven
It’s something I believe the fairway team are exploring for future products but the watertight cap and solid barrel connector have been doing well for us so far. A bit more energy efficient too I suppose but very marginal.
So the Tuamotous are archipelago of islands in French Polynesia, a few hundred miles from Tahiti. An amazing place we can’t wait to show everyone more of it.

Thanks for checking it out. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s on Amazon quite yet. The link we provided is to their website directly but we are also able to arrange sales through the red seas store if that works? We are still cleaning up the shipping calculator but if you want to send us a message, we can work something out I’m sure. Really appreciate your support.
The big difference between the blue rotating scrubber you used and the Nemo/Remora is that the rotating brushes on Nemo and Remora are designed to pull/suck the rotating brush towards the hull. This makes an enormous difference in how much effort is needed. The blue tool you used requires you to constantly use your fins to push it against the hull - or hold onto the boat’s rope and pull your hand to it. The Nemo and Remora do not require you to push at all. The suction of the brush head does the work. Really huge benefit. The only drawback is that the Remora costs $2,000 and the Nemo costs $1,500.
Earlier on the video we use the brush head option on the Sea Scrubber. It’s very similar to how you describe. We switched the the tougher scrub pad as we wanted to show some of the other optional attachments. Guess we forgot to switch back. 🙊
We have been getting just over an hour on a single charge which has been pretty much perfect for us. After that long we like to get out for a drink and a warm up in the sun anyway. 😊
I was wondering why you didn't get out the SCUBA gear or a hooka and bam you pulled it out! Do you need something to cover your ears to keep the bugs out? I can't remember if I asked or not - can you get any night star shots? Maybe a timelapse - the skies must be pretty clear there? Donate for a Dream
Haha yeah, we only really use the blu3 for the keels as it saves us freediving which is cool. We normally get all covered up for bugs but this time we didn’t see too many on the hulls which was great news. Mostly slim and soft stuff to deal with so we didn’t bother. Still a messy business but the scrubber makes it way less tiring. As for star shots, we have been meaning to do one of these for a while. It keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list as we have been so busy but we will try and get round to it as the night sky is pretty amazing here. No ambient light for miles.
Well…we did, we just didn’t film it 😂 to be honest, we had so much else to do with cleaning and editing that we didn’t think the walk on the beach was all that interesting to share. Still, there will be so many more isolated paradise islands to share so we will have to capture the next one. 😊
First. Oatmeal works head and shoulders better than rice. (Got to have something to do with all that oatmeal I no longer eat. ) Second, how come you don't take your cat into extremely shallow water while cleaning the hull? You could get to most of the hull just standing.
So our boat is not actually designed to beach. Many of the leopard cats are designed with sacrificial keels that aren’t really able to handle the full weight of the boat sitting on them. There is also the concern that we might dry out on rocks or coral and cause damage to the hulls so we figure the at anchor approach works for us. In these remote parts we haven’t actually seen many people drying out their boat to clean. I think doing it at anchor is way more common.
😜 I hear you…. but that’s 2x 47ft hulls so even with the best will in the world, we can’t get around all of that every 2 days and keep up with cruising, adventuring, editing and sharing it all here on TH-cam and patreon extra content. As you could see in the video, the cleaning was mostly slime level for us but it’s still a workout to cover that surface area by hand. We will always take the extra help. 😊
Get yourself a outdoors phone waterproof bash proof massive batteries film underwater.. with some or take photos heat cameras or night view cameras. Some have insanely powerfull flash lights and walki talki functions. Most are made in China prices are not too bad for decent ones Doogee Blackview Nokia there are a dozen of them that make Military rated phones.
As it happens, we have cleaned those rust marks since this video. The bolts and washers are stainless 316 but they still show rust after many years of hard sailing. 😊
Just a word of advice. Wear ear plugs when scrubbing the hulls. A few yachties have had small sea creatures from the growth end up in their ears which was a world of pain as it crawled deep inside. André

A few people have asked about that. We actually do wear plugs. On this occasion we didn’t have much in the way of creepy crawlies so wasn’t such an issue but we have shown in previous episodes just how far we will go to avoid those guys getting to us.
Nice how long does the scrubber bat last?
We have been getting over an hour in a single charge. Kind of ideal as we usually want to get out of the water for a drink after that long and we just drop it on charge for a bit.
Bri our Bond girl in red ❤
Absolutely. Wouldn’t want to get in a fight with her for sure
@@RedSeas what butter would not melt in her mouth she is too sweet 🤩
That is so luvly. Would luv to join sailing community with my wife.
It’s a whole different world but so rewarding. Perhaps some day that dream can become a reality. Until then we will continue trying to share what it is actually like to life and travel on a sail boat.
Did you say what the name of the atole is?
We actually dropped the hook here in last weeks episode. It’s called Raraka. A rarely visited atoll most people sim for Fakarava and so it’s a little slice of isolated heaven
Hello to my favorite peeps.
Hey hey! 👋🏼
Surprised charging wasn't by induction pad for the scubber?
It’s something I believe the fairway team are exploring for future products but the watertight cap and solid barrel connector have been doing well for us so far. A bit more energy efficient too I suppose but very marginal.
Hi team .. so ..where is this island group ??
So the Tuamotous are archipelago of islands in French Polynesia, a few hundred miles from Tahiti. An amazing place we can’t wait to show everyone more of it.
Im sold.
Don’t forget the discount code REDSEAS225 in that case 😃
did u mention what the scrubber is called/the manufacturer?
@@rogernelson-xp1qf Yes it’s called a Sea Scrubber. It’s made by Fairway - if you’re interested you can see what comes in the pack at this link (and use discount code REDSEAS225 to save 10%)

Just like James Bond….007… 😂🤣😂, ..Ian is our 007…
Perhaps with some serious photoshop skills we can work on a 6 pack
@@RedSeas what’s a pack or two between friends even is your missing 5….lol 🥸
great video guys, love that scrubber, do you guys have an amazon affiliate link? I'm landlocked in FL but order amazon stuff regularly, so if you have a link, I can help throw a few $ your way to support your channel. Congrats on getting 10K subs!
Bri gaging on the red thing 😮
Yeah the price is crazy so the Fairway SEA scrubber is affordable and convenient for small fast task as well so I think is worth it
For how long does the battery of the fairway Schrubber last?
You did not explore the island? 😢
Well…we did, we just didn’t film it 😂 to be honest, we had so much else to do with cleaning and editing that we didn’t think the walk on the beach was all that interesting to share. Still, there will be so many more isolated paradise islands to share so we will have to capture the next one. 😊
@@RedSeas for sure, you need to look after us viewers. Even if it’s just a body cam. If you don’t show us I will never see it in this life..
@@RedSeas Oh, I wasn't suggesting beaching. Just shallow enough, like 3.5 to 4 feet. As long as there are no waves. Depending on your draft.
If you just make it routine to wipe the bottom down with a soft sponge every two three days you can completely avoid all these problems .
👍
🍻
Get yourself a outdoors phone waterproof bash proof massive batteries film underwater.. with some or take photos heat cameras or night view cameras. Some have insanely powerfull flash lights and walki talki functions. Most are made in China prices are not too bad for decent ones Doogee Blackview Nokia there are a dozen of them that make Military rated phones.
Great episode
! I never eat anything made in China you never know what they put in there
Cheers. It’s all about expanding our horizons I guess 😂

As it happens, we have cleaned those rust marks since this video. The bolts and washers are stainless 316 but they still show rust after many years of hard sailing. 😊
Nope! no ear protection @@@@@@@ big mistake @@@@@@@
Worth taking another look. We had our silicon plugs in. Often take them out when talking to camera however. Just stops us shouting at the lens 😂
Iain your conversation’s need practice…. Grade -C
Yeah, serious lack of sleep didn’t help but if everyone would just agree to go metric that would be super helpful thanks. 🙏🏼
@@RedSeas we are all metric in the UK and EU, it’s the backward countries that use metric.
We need gps Co-ordinates to see exactly where that stone is 🫡
Setting up for your next adventure?
Yes! What a great dream.
Maybe it’s only available to Patreons.
@@RedSeas we can only dream, but it would be nice to go to google earth and have a look at the island and where that marker you dropped was.
