Kirk Kettner (Jay Baruchel) is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in his mid-20s who has low self-esteem and, by his own admission, has not accomplished very much in life. He works at the Pittsburgh International Airport as a Transportation Security Administration officer, and hopes of becoming a pilot one day. He tries to get back together with his self-centered ex-girlfriend, Marnie (Lindsay Sloane). Kirk can't believe his luck when a gorgeous, successful woman named Molly McCleish (Alice Eve) falls in love with him. With no help from his stunned friends, relatives, and ex-girlfriend, Kirk must figure out how to make this unlikely relationship work, even though he's the first to admit that Molly is way beyond him.

This is probably the best scene in the movie for people wondering how & why she is with him. Alice Eve’s line “Underwear would be fine, if I were wearing any” is such an icebreaker.

Kirk is so adorable, his ex wasn't even in HIS league
And so continues the tradition of casting an attractive person to play the role of an unattractive person in the hope that regular unattractive people like me will identify with them. I feel like this is the male equivalent of the 90's "oh, she's so ugly and dorky, wait a minute, let's just take off the glasses and let down her ponytail and BAM, she's a supermodel". Don't get me wrong, I love this film, but he is kinda adorable.

This scene is so accurate on many levels. Seeing an ex's reaction the moment you bring home a new girlfriend. Family's reaction is additional topping to the cake.

really like Molly's character. she's the picture perfect face of beauty but she isn't mean and have her head stuck in the clouds and think she's untouchable. she and Cher from Clueless are my fave pretty popular blondes that are actually really kind and sweet.

I have seen this movie at least 20 times, and it still fluster's me when she say's "If I were wearing any".... I revert back to being 13 and dropping my jaw. Then when Marnie says her thing, I make the face of smelling a surprise fart from my dog.

Dylan's girlfriend has the great responses without uttering any words. When she first sees Molly she tilts her head and checks her out, almost out of disbelief. And when Molly says she is not wearing any underwear, she just looks straight ahead and smiles, as if she gets Molly's sly connotation.
You do realise that is Kirk's ex, so Molly is her replacement.

Love this movie. I watch it a couple times a year.
Every actor brought their A-game to this - especially the leads - but Alice Eve was especially impressive. I don't think anyone could guess that she is actually English, and this scene is a perfect showcase for her acting ability: the pauses, the nuances... she's just totally believable in the role.

I’m one of them. I’m a 5 on a good day and my wife is absolutely gorgeous. When we first met, the responses we got were similar to this one. I didn’t have a jealous ex at the time, but I did have female friends that became very interested in me for some reason. The ego boost was insane. We actually just watched this movie for the first time last year, and we were both like “well this is reminiscent.” Lol
