Yes it can be put on almost all fabrics. Silk, cotton, and open weave sheer fabrics too. The floss or yarn along with the background fabric makes lots of variations. I like Edmar floss made for three dimensional embroidery on different fabrics. Light backgrounds allow for sketching outlines though.
