Awesome aircraft. I've stood behind a Merlin engine in a Hurricane airframe to hear/feel/smell the effect - it is astounding. Times that by 4, then times that by 20, and you are close to experiencing a full squadron revving up for a mission. The silence after they had all left must of been the weirdest feeling.
My dad was an RCAF Norden bombsight tech on the Lanc during WWII. He never forgot the sound of the take off of 20 or 30 of these monsters.
