Pretty accurate description of Santa Cruz. Some more tips from a beginner who surfs there often: Cowells is great but gets super crowded when it’s good (which is not often. Definitely need the Surfline cam for cowells if you don’t live nearby because Surfline will say poor 0-1 ft all the time even when it’s surfable) Capitola is less crowded and that’s the benefit. Plus if you’re a real real beginner it has a little mini break right where you get in separate from the slightly bigger wave a bit further out. Only correction I’d make is that Capitola looks sandy but there are tons of rocks, so be careful about jumping off at the end of a wave. I’ve messed up my feet/ankles on rocks doing that.
I once rode too far inside there and saw a fin floating in the water. I thought some poor bstd lost a fin,... it was my fin! Wear booties there for getting in and out.
Noooooo...Capitola gets SUPER crowded; especially during the summer, but even during the winter it can get extremely congested--it's a nightmare...and yes, can be very rocky
Capitola is a great wave for beginners because it is so forgiving, but it can get well-above beginner level--there are a lot of really good, advanced surfers out there
Ive been surfing pleasure point, the hook, 4 mile for over 6 years. Every day there is an argument, salty people, locals hoarding the peak, entitled groms and a bunch of bad vibes. It never changes
Thanks for this. Very helpful. Santa Cruz is beautiful. Your video really captures the laid back vibe of the area.
Thank you!
Laid bAck???? hhahahaahahahahaha surfers are not laid back, they are the most aggressive and toxic group in the water

@@jimmccarley9609 Low tide there is a killer; rogue rocks pop up all along the inside--I've lost probably half-a-dozen fins there...if not more lol
personally id say cowells and capitola are only good for beginners but as soon as youre past that point places like blacks and 26th are more fun imo
I think a lot of people would agree

And some of the most unfriendly locals in California; they love exposure
