Maestro Fisichella never got the attention or household name he deserved internationally but he certainly delivered the goods and could sing the tights off of most of the big name tenors around. He still sounds youthful and beautiful to this day and Thank God is teaching young singers how to sing not scream and woof!
Bel canto IS a style of singing and a style of opera, with it’s ornaments and many techniques that are different from the verismo. What you mean is just nice italian open and clear singing. I mean, he sings bel canto too, but if you are not doing cadenzas, no ornaments, no appogiaturas, no variations, no “repetire la nota”, no messa di voce, and you are not singing a bel canto opera, definitely you are not singing Bel Canto.

He had a great career but, I agree with some of you, he deserves to be known and heard by many more people. And let's hope that many young singers will take advantage of his huge experience.
A discovery ! A rare combination of raw power and tenderness, even when almost forcing, he still keeps that lyrical and sweet ringing. I find his singing very fascinating and attractive.
I met him just yesterday at his home (catania )..he is really big tenor...he is better that every one you think ..not villazon...or cura or florez..or alvarez or vargas or caleja...they are nothing compare to him..he is around 60 years and he can sing 100 D and D#...he was teaching my to sing high notes....I wanted just cry...
As far as I'm concerned this is the greatest rendition of this Aria ever. Even my usual favourite Corelli couldn't quite touch Fisichella's perfection. That, and I find his voice a tad too dark. A light and beautiful voice for a light and beautiful aria.
One has the undeniable impression in listening to him of hearing the voice quality of the greatest tenors of the last century and this without the crackling and static of the old recordings (wonderful though they were).
I also thought it was on the brink of forcing until I watched his master class. He teaches the true, old operatic technique before microphones. It seems counterproductive, but is actually very healthy and amazing.
What I like with him is his flawless technique and - above all - his sense of style in the the music he sings. This is something young singers should listen carefully to. It is wonderful!
in terms of the general technique, tone, and his style of singing this style of lyrical Italian opera, he is the prime example of the lyric tenor. different fachs/classifications...different approaches...different vocal styles, but the overall vocal techniques should be the same.

Boheme is not belcanto style. It is verismo. Bel canto is Bellini Donizetti, Rossini and some Verdi.
