Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay was a legendary author of Bangla literature. He always tries to portray Bengal's laborious low caste, untouchable peoples and their struggle for sustenance in his writing. Another interesting feature is that he uses the local dialects. Bangla literature will be forever indebted to this kind of writing.
Kalapahar is one of the finest stories of Tarashankar Bandopadhyay. We usually think that animals are mindless/ brainless perhaps wrong. In this world, only humans have their own languages and only they can talk but the animals whom we domesticated are not able to talk but could understand human languages. Kalapahar is a story of buffalo, its relationship, and finally its fate.
