তারাশঙ্কর বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বাংলা সাহিত্যের প্রবাদপ্রতিম লেখক। ওনার লেখা পড়ে বাংলার সাধারণ,খেটে খাওয়া মানুষের সাধারণ জীবন যাপনের এক অসাধারণ চিত্র পাওয়া যায় তারসঙ্গে সেই এলাকার মানুষের মুখের ভাষা বুলি উঠে আসে শ্রীতারাশঙ্কর বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়ের কলমে। বাংলা সাহিত্য বোধহয় চিরঋণী থেকে যাবে এইসব লেখনির জন্য।
অগ্রদানী এক অসাধারন গল্প । এক অগ্রদানী ব্রাহ্মণের গল্প । অগ্রদানী ব্রাহ্মণ অর্থাৎ যারা মৃত্যুর পর পিণ্ডী খান। এই ব্রাহ্মণ অতি লোভী, সে খেতে বড়ই পছন্দ করে। জমিদার সন্তানহীন এবং তার স্ত্রী প্রতিবার তাদের শিশুদের জন্মদানের পরেই শিশুগুলি মারা যায়। ব্রাহ্মনের স্ত্রী কিন্তু অভাবেও সুস্থ সন্তানের জন্ম দেয়। জমিদার এবারে ব্রাহ্মণকে জানায় তার যদি শিশু বাঁচে তাহলে জমিদার তাকে অনেককিছু দান করবেন । শিশু জন্মানোর পর যথারীতি মৃত্যুমুখে। শহরের ডাক্তার পর্যন্ত জবাব দিয়ে গেছে । ব্রাহ্মণের ঘরেও এক শিশুর জন্ম হচ্ছে সেদিন, সে তার পুত্রের সঙ্গে জমিদার পুত্রের অদলবদল করে দেয়। পেয়ে যায় ভবিষ্যৎ এবং বেঁচে যাওয়ার প্রতিশ্রুতি। গল্প এখানেই শেষ নয়। জানতে হলে শুনতে হবে পুরো গল্প অগ্রদানী।

Tarasankar Bandyopadhyay was a legendary author of Bangla literature. In his writing, he always tries to portray Bengal's laborious low caste, untouchable peoples and their struggle for sustenance. Another interesting feature is that he uses the local dialects in his writing. Bangla literature will be forever indebted to this kind of writing.
Agradani is a wonderful story about an Agradani Brahmin. Agradani Brahmin in the Hindu religion is used to eat Pinda after death. This Brahmin is very greedy. He loves to eat very much. Jamindar is childless and his wife lost her child every time after their birth due to an unknown disease. But the wife of Brahmin always gave birth to a child despite poverty. Jamindar said to the Brahmin that if his child could survive he would give him enough to survive. After Jamindar's child was born he as usual on his deathbed. Even the doctor from town gave no hope for life. At the same time, Brahmin wife also gives birth to a child. Brahmin exchanged his son with Jamindar's child. Got a new lease of life.
