Really enjoyed the video of your trip with your sister. Seeing the places you grew up with your family, places I will never visit in a million years, many thanks from Ann in South Yorkshire, UK.
Colette, what an absolutely wonderful trip you and your sister had together. You were able to revisit past memories and create memories for the future. Thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures.
Hi Colette loved and enjoyed your trip with your sister down memory lane. The pictures you took were stunning and beautiful. Love watching your channel and thank you for the lovely comment on what I sent pictures to you of what I did in July. In the meantime be safe and kind. God bless Pat
Hi Colette, Thank you for taking us along on your trip. I also have many memories of Northeast Georgia. My parents were born in Union County. Georgia - married at the Blairsville Courthouse in November 1944 - my dad served in WW2 - after the war my parents moved north to Michigan where my sisters and I were born. Every year we would make the long 24 hour drive on I-25 to spend two weeks with my grandparents. I was young and do not remember those travel days. Years later when I-75 was complete we would see billboards advertising "See Rock City, Ruby Falls and Lookout Mountain". We would beg our dad to take us there. Needless to say we never stopped. Thank you for the lovely photos and history lesson. (I always wanted a birdhouse too.) When we arrived our Sunday afternoons were spent traveling the back roads and visiting the mountain graveside of our ancestors. We would look for arrowheads and Confederate graves. Fun fact - my grandmother's name was America. She was born in 1874. Our grandparents did not share many stories of their childhood - mountain living was hard - but their love for God, family and the land made their lives beautiful. I am grateful those qualities were passed on to our generation. Thanks again for taking me down memory lane. I look forward to your next adventure. P.S. I love your stitching projects and finishes. Barbara
Thank you for your story, Barbara! It really is a small world. My dad met my mom when they were in the service during WW2. (Blind date in Chicago)😁 She was an Illinois Northerner and he was a Georgia Southern boy. When we were children we would alternate summers traveling odd years to Georgia to see the relatives and even years to Illinois to see the other relatives! Lots of memories for sure!
Thanks for sharing. So interesting, I am a knitter but don’t anything about bobin lace. I am going to look into it have a great trip. Really love sitting with you and seeing your cross stitch and trips
What a great trip! I love studying the history of places and the people who lived there, so this was a marvelous and fascinating story of your ancestors. I'm glad you had time to spend with your sister. I grew up in KS and have always loved visiting Abilene. Have fun on your cruise! ❤
Colette, you are wonderful with your photographic skills. I loved your travelog. You and your sister had a fabulous trip! As a side note, I'm glad you were able to see the Golden Gate Bridge. Being a resident of the Bay Area for more than 30 years, that bridge never stopped amazing me.
I watched the video of the trip with your sister this morning. Really enjoyed all your pictures and you telling about what you did. Hope you enjoy your cruise. A great and special way to celebrate your 50th anniversary. And many congratulations of reaching it! 😊
That was SO MUCH FUN! I really enjoyed your journey because I live near Blairsville, in Murphy, NC and have been to all the places you mentioned, including the Museum, the Courthouse, eaten many meals at the Sawmill, etc. etc. Tomorrow morning I meet with our cross stitching group at the G & G Bakery for our first Friday gathering! I’m going to make sure everyone saw your flosstube! I’ve been following your flosstube for over two years and love watching and admire your stitching so much!sure wish I had known you were here! I’m going back to the Museum to read more about your family and go see Southern Meadow Dr and Souther Forest! My husband and I take a six week trek from NC to Portland, OR every year to see our family and will be staying a night in Salt Lake City to go to Shepherd’s Needle! Can hardly wait! Thx for taking us on your trip to my neighborhood!!🥰
Thank you!!! We went through Murphy on our way to Blairsville. Things have really grown since we were kids, Blairsville is bigger and more houses too. I guess my Souther ancestors added to that growth when they sold the property. Just to let you know the county is working on the bridge between the old house and the Souther Mill estates so the road is closed. It was a hassle to go from one side to another, though you can do it. I should become a long distance member of your stitching group, lol!
@@highwaystitchercoletteking5633 I told everyone in our group about your post and you should get about 5 more subscribers, especially one who is part of the Dyer ? Family. Helen was going watch your flosstube and comment to you herself! We’d love to have you as a offsite stitcher!!
Hi again, oh such fun and beautiful pictures. I don’t know my history as never have lived near any relatives and don’t know many cousins about 3 odd many many. Also am an only child so don’t have much of my genealogy. Thanks for all the interesting info and pictures.enjoy your anniversary tour!
Colette your trip with Alyson was fantastic. I loved hearing about your family history and the old house that your Dad grew up in. Some of the places you visited were lovely and I appreciate you sharing your photos with us. What amazing memories you are creating. Do you have any other siblings, you seem close with your sister which is nice. Love and blessings x
Moonshine, oh my, when I lived in Missouri a friend brought over some Moonshine. He was going to give me a shot. But I was chicken and said I’d only try a teaspoon. Oh my!!! It did not just curl my toes, I think it almost burnt them off.😂😂😂 Enjoyed seeing your photos, thank you for sharing. We went to Chickamauga Battlefield when we had a family reunion in southern Indiana. Kids enjoyed the day.
Such a great video with Allison! Loved hearing the family history and seeing the photos! I wonder if our parents ever talked about where they were born and raised, since my dad grew up in Kansas and my mom in Kentucky. Happy 50th to you and Chris, you are blessed! Can't wait to hear about the cruise! Love you!❤
Really enjoyed that video, Colette! As someone from the UK who has never visited the US, I can enjoy it vicariously through you! Hope you have a wonderful Alaskan cruise and Happy Anniversary to you both 💛
What a wonderful trip! Thank you so much for all of the beautiful pictures and for sharing your very interesting family history. Enjoy your 50th Anniversary trip to Alaska!❤
Harry Truman did spend a lot of time in his museum after his presidency. He would catch kids visiting and pull them aside and test them on their knowledge of the government. I remember that before school field trips to the museum, teachers would prep their class - just in case the president should be there. They would allow scout troops to raise the flag in the morning. My son got to do that once. Such a special citizen.
Awesome video! I live in the South; I don't think any of us get used to the humidity!! We are all looking forward to October (hopefully!) -- haha!! Have been to Brasstown Bald several times; climbed up the mountain and rode back down; it was an adventure! Chattanooga is also lots of fun! The mountain with the park and Rock City and the aquarium is so much fun! You brought back many fun memories for me! Thanks!! Have a great trip to Alaska; can't wait to see the video on that.
Rock city reminds me of the Pöstliberg train in Linz, Austria. My mother in law is from Linz and wanted to take the kids to show them where she grew up and all the fun things she remembered from her childhood. This train went around inside the mountain and there were lots of little scenes featuring those same creepy gnomes! So fun how similar attractions can be so far apart in the world.
Such an awesome trip And to spend alot of it with your sister is just amazing. So many places you went to her in Blairsville and around I sew almost every day! The Sawmill Resturant...Brasstown Bald... I wish I would have known you were coming. I would love to have met you and had lunch or something. Great video Colleen. I'd you need any history checked at the courthouse just let me know 😊
Looks like you had a great trip, and made lots of nice memories. We are going to the Smoky Mountains in October to see color (hopefully), and will look up the Railroad. We like those train rides. Thanks for sharing all the information.
I really enjoyed this video! It was fun hearing about traveling and seeing your pictures! I had to laugh at the end when you were talking about humidity! I have lived all my life in northern Iowa and Illinois and know what humidity feels like for sure! However I have spent the last three years living in South Jordan and have experienced the dry heat of the west..in June we moved back to Illinois and am currently living in humidity hell! Dry heat is better! LOL!
Enjoyed your video so much, I live in Georgia on Lake Hartwell, I live maybe 75 to 80 miles from Blairsville Ga and have also been to Brass Town Ball. And I love the Great Smokie Mountains, been going there all my life I am now 70 Lol. I am cross stitching a Dimensions Kit called Sunset Mountain Trail which is a trail in the Smokie Mountains. Did you happen to see any Black Bear in the Smokies. I have also been to Lookout Mountain. Lol so glad you and your sister took time to visit my side of the world. Happy Stitching and Safe Travels.
Another neighbor, Hello! I love traveling around the Appalachian mountains! So much beauty, and I can feel my ancestors spirits so strong when I’m there. Thanks for telling me!
Thank you for sharing your trip with us! You were in my old stomping grounds in the KC area. Five years ago I lived just south of KC area. Were you able to go to Quilter’s Station in Lee’s Summit or C.C. & Company cross stitch shop in Blue Springs, MO? I really enjoyed your pictures.
