I saw him perform this at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival this summer and pI was blown away by the way he does it. So different than anyone else - so beautiful, so haunting. I don't believe he's released a recording of it yet so I am very grateful to find it here. Thanks. The way he tames the crowd here is an added bonus.
I am planning a trip to New Orleans next year just to see this man perform. What a heavenly and blessed talent. He should certainly be better known outside of New Orleans. God bless you Mr. Boutte
Just fabulous. Saw him a few months ago. This song and time after time and well everything he sang, so good. Went again a few weeks later and just as good.
@BaltimoreKBs I had the pleasure to be in his listening audience @ the Salmon Arm Roots & Blues Festival...truly a very gifted man! I asked what we could do for New Orleans...he replied: "Pray"
I just saw him perform by chance at d.b.a. on 8.25.2013 during my first trip to NOLA. I had never heard of him (or seen Treme) and that was a mistake. You owe it to yourself to see this man and his band. I don't know how a musician can perform a song over and over again and do it with such passion, but Mr. Boutte was incredible. I'll be back New Orleans!
Saw your stepdaddy play the night this was filmed. The memory is still in my heart. I hope to keep it there for a long time. Bless you and your family!
@IvanVonVonderbahn I think Professor Longhair repeated this sentiment himself at another great club that was built to showcase his talent, the much loved Tipitina's on Napolean.
An Angel Sings, and God is Black you know! .... There is a book in German, called Colour, am waiting to translate it with a friend, who is atm having chemo. Thank you John Boutte, I sit at your feet. Thank you for lifting me out of my rage. Such sweetness! Thank you!
Amazing how the crowd quiets down. That's what Mr. Boutte's voice will do.
2021 checking in. Saw Mr. Boutte 3 yrs ago at dba. Amazing! What a wonderful guy!

After 4 years of listening this version still makes my heart pound ... a bittersweet longing .. beautiful John..
A true American treasure. Happy to be in the room for this one, too.
Praise the Lord for moments and music like this. God bless John Boutte and New Orleans.
