  • Garmin's Speed Sensor 2 is an updated version of their original bike speed sensor and now comes with Bluetooth as well as ANT+. It's a single unit that sits on the wheel, so there are no magnets or other bits to stick on and line up correctly: you just hook it onto the wheel and go.
It can go on the front or rear wheel. It is easier to get it onto the front wheel, but if you want to use it with a wheel-on trainer, you need to put it on the back wheel.
In my experience, it is way easier to install than the Wahoo bike speed sensor and stays in place just as well.

Hi Chris, I'm looking at this Garmin speed sensor because my Wahoo doesn't fit on my wheels. It seems like you might have the same wheels I do, which is encouraging for me in terms of fitting. Can you confirm you have Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon UST? Looking at the posted dimensions of the Garmin compared to my hub measurement, I didn't think the Garmin would work for me, but this video appears to say otherwise. LMK!

I have Garmin Speed Sensor 2 Gen3 BSCM Version 4.73.4 which uses Garmin Connect on my Android phone (I paired it via Garmin Connect App). It auto records my Cycling Time after the ride but not the speed or distance (I am assuming ascent needs a cadence recorder?) - I cannot find anything about setting up wheel size but the product is on the metal bit in the middle of the back wheel anyway - is there something different I need to be doing? Is it supposed to tell me distance and average speed (as well as the time) after the ride has ended? Thanks

Hi Chris, I have a question. Can I use only a speed sensor, without cadence, to get distance and speed data of indoor bike training? And I assume it is compatible with vivoactive 4.
    Thanks, all the best!

Yes, the speed sensor is all you need. I haven't tried the vivoactive 4, but it should work fine.

Is the GARMIN 2 speed and cadence sensor compatible with the TACX TRAINING app?

Could I pair this with my Garmin Venu, then complete an indoor ride on a non-smart indoor trainer - then get a reading of distance/ speed/ calories etc when I then finish my workout?
Normally when I finish an outdoor bike ride my Garmin then automatically uploads the route and stats to Strava - will this just do the exact same thing? Assuming of course I select the ‘Indoor bike’ option before I begin?
    Thanks

Yeah, that should work well. I haven't used a Venu, but I started with a non-smart trainer and a speed sensor and did all of my workouts that way with it connected to my Edge.

Hi chris. I just got my self a non-smart turbo trainer. Can I use this and Garmin cadence sensor directory with garmin app to see speed and cadence details or do i need a garmin device

I don't think the Garmin app does data readings, but the sensors will connect to your phone so you could use a different app.

I was just wondering is it possible to pair the Garmin speed and cadence sensors to the Wahoo gps as I do not have the Garmin bike gps only the latest Wahoo elemet Roam gps but was thinking of getting some speed and cadence sensors for my bicycles.
    Thanks,
    Tom.

Yeah, this should work fine. i've paired the Wahoo sensors with a Garmin computer (other way around, I know) and my Garmin speed sensor with non-Garmin devices, so they'll all talk to each other. I've never tried a Wahoo bike computer but I would be very surprised if it did not work.
