11:50 ബോട്ടിന്റെ അടിയിൽ പിടിപ്പിച്ച ഫാൻ പോലെ ഇരിക്കുന്ന Propeller ആണ് ബോട്ടിനെ മുന്നോട്ടു ചലിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. വെള്ളം പുറകിലേക്ക് തള്ളുമ്പോൾ ബോട്ട് മുന്നോട്ടു പോകും. അതുപോലെ പ്രൊപ്പല്ലർ വെള്ളം മുന്നിലേക്ക് തള്ളുമ്പോൾ ബോട്ട് പിന്നിലേക്ക് പോകും. ഇടക്ക് പായലും കുളവാഴയും മറ്റും പ്രൊപ്പെല്ലറിൽ ഉടക്കും. അപ്പോൾ അത് പ്രവർത്തിക്കാതെ ആവും. ബോട്ട് ഡ്രൈവർക്കു അത് പെട്ടെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാവും. അവർ ഒന്ന് റിവേഴ്‌സ് ഇട്ടു ഒന്നു ആക്‌സിലേറ്റർ കൊടുക്കും. അതോടെ ഉടക്കി ഇരിക്കുന്ന പായലും മറ്റും പോകും. അപൂർവ്വം ചില സമയം അതും നടക്കില്ല. അപ്പോൾ ബോട്ടിൽ ഉള്ള Lascar എന്ന് പേരുള്ള ജീവനക്കാർ വെള്ളത്തിൽ ഇറങ്ങി പായൽ മാറ്റേണ്ടി വരും. കുട്ടനാട്ടുകാരുടെ ജീവിതത്തിൽ ഇതൊക്കെ ദൈനം ദിന കാര്യങ്ങൾ ആണ് 🙂. മനോഹരമായ വീഡിയോക്ക് നന്ദി

I am from KTYM.. I have been doing this boat journey for almost 2-3 decades.. Thank goodness it again started from Kodimata boat jetty.... Lovely video. As a Rail fan I am also a boat and river fan. My home is also hardly 3 km from boat jetty.. Some 10 years ago, the ticket fare was 15-20 INR. You go anywhere in India, only for crossing the banks of river they charge you 2000-3000 Rupees. This is one of the cheapest and loveliest boat rides at just 32 Rupees (present fare) as is also mentioned by you in the video.

That was the chain controlling the function of steering which is operated by the srank.
That was African Payal which is a menace for Kuttanadu

Superb video.
Should have shown how the masters removed the water hyacinth .
Is there a washroom behind the boat?
I presume it is where you stood showing the roof of the boat.
Are there any hotels near the boat jettys where we can buy food,since it is a 3 hour journey?
Like someone explained earlier, the chain controls the rudder of the boat to turn the boat.
For the smaller boats the outboard motor turns to change the direction of the boat.
The captain rings the bell in different ways to increase and decrease the speed of the boat as well as to reverse the engine in order to stop the boat.
My father had a similar boat which used to go from elathur calicut till thiruvatthakkadavu ulliyeri.
It was a great help for people residing in those areas during that time ,however after the roads were made and the bus services came, he had to slowly wind up.
The boat had a separate cabin on top for the captain(srank).
Overall fantastic video
