Long story short: stop working for a company that is selling you to dozens of clients, and work for those clients directly. This is the basic trend with technology professionals for a long time. Sure, you need your employer sometimes, so you can get experience with client work sooner, but as soon as you get the idea, unless you're super comfortable living like that, build your own brand and start working for yourself.

You are similar to my early journey of being a UIUX designer. I have been a UI UX freelancer for more than 20 years until becoming a leader. Feeling lonely is a way to solidify a good skill of exploring inner thoughts, and also, it's a good way to sharpen your soft skills. They will help you to create more inspiring products in the future.

Rachel, thank you so much for making this video! It's soooo refreshing to hear that even such an experienced pro like you have imposter syndrome and you have to combat it too. I feel stuck because of it, I know that i'm just a junior designer in the beginning of my journey and I just need to start with tons of mistakes along the way but this fear of failure almost paralyses me. What if I'm not good enough and let my team/company/client down? What if I don't know much as required for this field? etc. How do you deal with such questions whenever they arise?

Hey Rachell, Great video but sounds to me, you just transition yourself into a robot. Unless your planning to hire a team and buildig a business, sooner or later you'll burnout. And being self employed is not the way to build a long term sustainable income stream. I'd recommend reading rich dad poor dad and transitioning yourself from self-employed business module, into a small business owner module. I wish you very best and hope to see you transition soon.

    • @keiradong7512

I can't agree with you more. I've been working as a design agency co-founder/designer for the past 1 year. The truth is, freelance or even running a design agency (if you have no employee to work for you) is a heavily labor-intense work. It's not sustainable and you actually earning less than a full-time job for the first couple of years( if you live in USA). I actually don't mind the lower pay for a while if it's a high risk high potential business model but sadly being a 'freelancer' is not scalable. I think the problem of our internet now is you're only getting the content you're searching for or being targeted to see certain contents. So when people are looking for ' how to be a freelancer or transit into UIUX in 2023' that's all they see but the algorithm fails to tell people " is it actually worthy to be a freelancer, compared to all the career or business options in the universe? Instead of thinking how to get certain job, which limit your potential to a salary cap, why not adapt the businessman's mindset to work on something more scalable? Just some little thoughts.
