  • Detailed explanation of how I re-foam a speaker driver. This specific example uses the woofers from an Infinity rs-iiib speaker, but the process is basically the same for any other cone driver. The video is almost 30 minutes for the basic detailed explanation. The actual time to perform the work is much longer. I have personally re-foamed over 50 Infinity drivers and I still learn something new each time. Hopefully this video will help if you are interested in putting in the time to refurbish a speaker for yourself.
Update: After reviewing the video, I wanted to add that when checking the voice coil centering by hand before putting the frame glue down, you should use your other hand to hold the foam stable on the frame next to where you are pressing. In the video, I demonstrated rubbing, but if I was using both hands, the voice coil may have been centered for that example.

Good trick with the clamps, have refoamed some speakers but that makes it a lot easier, just bought these same speakers for 180€

Probably the best centering without removing the cones that I’ve seen!

This is why I prefer speakers that mount the surround to the rear of the cone. It's obvious when the inner lip is centered. Let the inner dry and center the outer lip while playing a 30hz tone.. Doesn't get any more simple. Nice work on these btw.

I have never tried to re-foam a speaker that had the foams on the back side of the cone, but That makes sense. Thanks for the tip with the low frequency test tone. I’ll have to give that a try.
