The tip I would give to a new comer to the sport is simply to have fun. Go to a venue with mixed fish species and maggots and either fish off the top of a rod or top 3 or 4 on a pole or a 4 foot whip. The key to youngsters is to get a bite and get them hooked. Great video guys. Merry Christmas to everyone at Preston Innovations and tight lines into 2022.
My tip for anyone who has just started fishing. When you start your session begin with little and often bait wise. Remember you cant take out what you have put in. Cheers joe .what a lovely treat. Prepping Christmas dinner for tomorrow, watching 2 absaloute legends. Merry Christmas everyone.
My tip for beginners is to watch as many videos on fishing techniques as possible. I wish they were available when I first started. The content is amazing from the likes of Des and Lee. Keep it up.
Great video as always! My tip to a new person starting is to enjoy the fishing your catching and take care of them, a small fishing will become the bigger fish we all dream of.
For a newbie who's just started feeder fishing my tip would be never cast beyond your comfort zone. Anyone can cast 60 + meters but the further out you go the less accurate you'll be. Try to keep the feeder within a 3m area. Good luck 👍
my advice too a beginner , especially in winter , Be patient, make sure to keep warm and have a nice hot flask with TEA/ COFFEE, AND FEED LITTLE AND OFTEN. Good Luck.
Firstly I have to say what a brilliant video this has been, fished by 2 great ambassadors of match fishing. My tip for a beginner would be to practise and enjoy the sport, take the good with the bad and keep learning, even the top anglers learn from every session
Beginner Tip: When waggler fishing always use a float adaptor or swivel attachment so you can wrap Wagglers with ease when conditions change. very important if wind picks up and a heavier waggler is needed. Can change in seconds.
Don't be afraid to ask questions in the tackle shop or on the bank, anglers are always happy to help beginners. Great video, Merry Christmas to all at Preston
Never be afraid to ask any other anglers around for advice. Any self respecting angler would jump at the chance to help you. Great video Joe. Keep them coming!!
Tip 1 for beginners start in the summer, however I love winter fishing tip 2 try go with someone how has venue knowledge or ask a regular for help and tips on the venue tip 3 my favourite ask for help from your local tackle shops.. Will always set you and give you lots of help and knowledge.
For a youngster to catch more fish, do what I did and watch videos on you tube from Des, Lee etc. I have learnt so much from them and the Preston team. The other things is to just enjoy yourself.
I am 15 and have been fishing for about 5 years and the single biggest thing that improved my fishing and catch rate was learning to cast too the clip. Being able to put a feeder accurately and gently tight against a far bank or an island or in the winter being able to cast repeatedly to the same pockets of fish will improve your catch rate i promise.
Don't be afraid to ask any other anglers around for advice. Any self respecting angler would jump at the chance to help. Another good video guys. Keep them coming!!
Great video guys👍 my top tip for the juniors coming through would be have the correct amount of line on the spools of your reels for efficient casting and accuracy merry Xmas
For any newcomer make sure you keep warm & dry, you can enjoy pole or feeder if you are comfortable, thank you again Preston, great anglers & great products.
Great video. My tip for a beginner is ‘never be afraid to speak to anglers on the bank and ask their advice on the venue you are fishing. No question asked is silly. We only learn by asking others and maybe adapting it to for ourselves’ I love being asked advice and helping. We only learn by asking. Happy New Year All and Tight Lines for 2022
My top tip: Always wet your knots before pulling them tight. Friction can often cause your knot to fail or line to snap if you tighten while line is dry.
A plummet, have shown anglers how to use one over the years and gave a few away. To see them going from not to having a bite to catching a fish makes my day.
My tip is keep it simple , ask questions other angler's are always willing to help and most of all enjoy your fishing. Thanks for all your videos, merry Xmas to you all.
Great video, advice for anybody starting fishing is to find someone or a club to fish with. Start gradually with catching small fish then work up to catching bigger fish. Find out what style of fishing you prefer. The old saying is learn to walk before you can run 👍
Always choose a fixed marker on the far side bank so you can fish accurately to every cast or when shipping out your pole. Also when feeder fishing use distance/ wrapping sticks and place the line in the reel clip for super distance accuracy. Less feeding, use lighter feeders and fewer casts this time of year for less disturbance. Also fine down mainline, hook length and smaller hooks. Good luck and happy new year to all !!!
First of all, I thank you guy's for everything you done for un. My tip for a beginner wold be:get information of the water, set up 3 swims, and try to learn from every sign you get from every spot you fish 🤗🙏
My tip: You'll progress faster if you get advice rather than trying to figure it out yourself as a beginner. Other anglers, tackle shop staff and fishery owners will help you - but if you can't speak to these, or are nervous to then hook yourself up with Des, Lee, Joe from Preston and some of the other youTube anglers. I started again almost from scratch 2 years ago and very quickly found Des' videos. Upside is learnt loads really quickly, and made less mistakes on the bank and when spending money in the tackle shop. Downside is I spent a fortune on Preston gear !!
Beginner tip, never skip plummeting the depth of the swim you're fishing, you will save so much time later in the day, and have the confidence knowing you are on the bottom. Great vid by the way, a small break between left over mince pies and lager !!!
Superb video for this match between DES and LEE !! May they continue to give us wonderful moments at the water's edge. Merry Christmas and happy New Years to all Preston Innovation lovers. Hello from France !!
Great video as always guy’s, keep them coming! My tip for new anglers on putting more fish in the net is, don’t be afraid to ask questions??? But you have too ask the right person. Based on this video. If you come across Lee and Des, ask Lee because Des will probably be trying to warm his hands! Sorry Des, but it’s about more fish not cold hands!
My tip would be to start in the margins. It gives you the basics of casting technique with very little punishment and can be as prolific as any other place, sometimes even more so. It’s a tip that helped me big time when I started about 18 months ago, and as you get more confident, you can start exploring feature finding and longer casts. On a lot of commercials, the bigger carp often patrol the edges, meaning you’ll still get the experience of catching a bit of everything, but from a much more comfortable place. Best of luck all, and tight lines!
Another great video guys and fair play to you in those conditions.. A tip I would give to an angler just starting out would be, keep it simple and don't over feed your swim.. Merry Christmas all and tight lines for the New year x
My tip for a beginner is that you should always consider the length of you hooklength when feeder fishing. Longer hooklengths can sometimes help pick out big or shy fish, and shorter hooklengths can be very effective when there are a lot of fish that get onto the feeder quickly.
As usual a great video and happy Christmas to you! My tip to someone new to the sport would be find someone who is an experienced angler and ask them to take you out and show you how to. When I was a 10 yrs old my uncle did for me, he showed me everything I needed to know to catch fish so I caught Fish and from there I just got better. Cheers Chris
One tip is watch the vids from Preston Innovations whether it be Des, Lee, Joe Andy Findlay whoever. Simple guidelines to follow and fish a local commercial to start off with and don't be afraid to ask questions. Most anglers will help with what bait to use and set up. Great vid as always looking forward to 2022
Begginers Tip. When you get to your peg, After setting up the float or pole line always plumb up all areas of your peg in front as far as you intend to fish and to either side which will let you know where your fishing area is either deeper or shallows up.
Top tip: Make sure you always keep a plummet with you! It’s a weight that you can attach to your hook so that when you’re float fishing you can see just how deep the water is and it will allow you to be able to present your bait on the bottom. Extra tip: Use the plummet to check other areas of your swim to find any deeper or shallower areas where fish could be hiding! It will help you understand the water a lot more!
My no1 tip and new comers i have helped at Makins as i get approached a lot lol is, if your float fishing key is to plumb the depth to where you are fishing by pinching a swan shot on to your hook or buy a plummet. i see so many new comers just chucking it out either well over depth or way to shallow. The bait choices and casting will all come down to practice and watching other experienced anglers, and never be afraid to ask for advice most anglers will happily oblige. Merry Xmas all.
My tip for a beginner would be choose a well stocked venue to start off with , you will learn a lot about your feeding and rigs by getting plenty of bites and it will help give you some confidence in what your doing ! Merry Christmas everyone and a happy new year !
Great Christmas video Joe Dez and Lee. Go fishing and have some fun with your mates the rest will follow. Ps keep the video's coming lads great to learn things even at my age.
my tip for the winter for a beginner ... if you make a flask of coffee/tea heat the milk up in microwave then add to flask !! will keep your coffee/tea hot all day .. will keep you warm and help you catch more fish
Great video guys especially in the rain.As a returning angler I'm a novice myself re this pole fishing so I'm looking at all the videos and asking my local tackle shop or bailiffs at the local fisheries I go to for advice, tips re bait etc.As a tip re beginners all of the above and patient's is a virtue as some days will be slow in catching anything but keep going as one day it will all click and you'll catch a net full.
Absolutely fantastic video. My tip for beginners would be to feed little and often to try encourage fish into the peg. Plenty of great videos to watch . Tight lines
Small hooks Feed 2 or 3 swims Keep feeding nice and tight And pick your line in the distance to help make sure you repeat the same casts Make sure your seating area is nice and tidy and everything’s to hand ! Last thing make sure that disgorger is in your fingers ready ! Happy fishing 🎣
My top tip, if you are not catching in these miserable conditions, never, never be tempted to feed in more bait as your swim could just go dead. The fish will feed on that small amount of ground bait you put in when they feel like it and it might take an hour or even two before you get the first bite. Tight lines all and a happy new year.
Great idea this match Joe two of the best anglers 👍 best tip I could say is keep it simple and use the rigs lines to match the fish you are targeting 👍👍👍👍
Des used my tip. That is to try and seek advice from locals on what's the best way to catch and what's is being caught. Any advice is better than none. Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 and fish on.
Awesome video once again lads looking forward to more in 2022. My tip for newbies would be pop along to your local commercial where you give yourself a bigger chance to catch, but also dont be afraid to ask for help and advice from the tackle shop or other angler, there are plenty out there only to happy to help .
Great match up between these two great anglers glad to see a bit of sportsmanship through the vid aswell.🐟 A great tip to start is to learn the names of things such as swivels and disgorger. Another tip is to try and find a club because this could save you alot of money in the long run. Try to look for a mixed fisherie near to ur home. Best of luck to all. Tight lines.🎣🎣
My tip is to take your time choosing your lines to fish. Plumbing up is super important. Dont rush this part. Plumb up all round you and take your time to set your depth to perfection. Skip this step and everything else you do will be wrong. Plumb up right and you are setting a good foundation for the day ahead.
Great video, my top is to take time to plumb up around your peg so you find features and best bottom conditions to help you have the best chance of catching any fish that are there.
Great video, my tip would be have patience. Patience while learning and patience while fishing. All of us are still learning every time we fish and all of us make mistakes so if you do don't be hard on yourself. Just get out there, do it and keep at it👍
All I can say to a beginner is just enjoy your surroundings. Be safe and listen to anglers around you with experience.Don’t get downhearted when you don’t catch. It happens to everyone. Happy Christmas.
First of all thank's for taking all the time you took to explain how you both prepared for the match. That goes also to the most important tip for a starter. "Watch those video's from Preston Innovation" and bring them into practice. You don't need much more !
Tip for the starting feeder angler, start with small amounts of groundbait, small feeders in winter. Let the fish tell you what to do. To positive feeding at the start means you can't take the the feed out of the water. Always feed more when the fish respond.
Always go to local tackle shop they usually know what's the correct bait and method for venue. And go on Facebook and read results of matches see what best pegs are. Don't be frightened to ask questions. Merry Xmas to you all keep up the good work
Great video as usual from the Preston team. My tip for a beginner is to try fishing different types of venues, especially natural venues. If you can learn to catch on canals and rivers, it will widen your skillset, improve knowledge of all species and set you up to catch anywhere.
Hi guys brilliant video as always, What I would advise a newcomer to our passion is go with someone that shares the same enthusiasm as yourself or failing that pop along to a well established club and ask to sit behind a club member or members and don’t be afraid to ask questions but be sure not to hinder their fishing and put the newly gained knowledge to practice, Keep up the good work chaps and merry Christmas to all
Best advice for a beginner I could give is to make sure you pick a marker on other side of the lake either a bench peg or a tree for when you are plumbing up and keeping your feeding area accurate and also make sure you enjoy it
Great video. My tip is to talk to the people in the local tackle shop. They’re a brilliant source for tips on where and how to fish. They want you to have a good days fishing so you’ll come back again!
A tip for a beginner! Be patient. Do trust in things you do while fishing and start critisize it afterwards. While fishing. Enjoy and trust what your doing! Oh, and talk to local anglers. People you know who fish a lot on the waters you will be fishing! Helped me lots🎣🔥
Great vid guys. My tip to a beginner is when pole fishing……..fish at a length that is comfortable to you and practice the skill before going out further.
My tip as a relative newcomer to another would be firstly to enjoy the whole experience, fishing is a fantastic sport. Secondly don’t be afraid to ask the experienced anglers around you for advice on how they are catching, all I have met are more than willing to help and give advice
Awesome video. My tip for anyone starting would be don’t over feed, don’t just go straight for the carp, build yourself up and most importantly enjoy yourself
Best tip I can any young angler's is enjoy your day out and ask questions and yes no question is a silly question!! Local knowledge is always the best knowledge also!! Tight lines everybody and merry Christmas to the team at Preston innovation and all the subscribers 👍👌🤶🎅🤣🎁🍻
Watch and learn as much as you can from the Preston anglers their knowledge is massive, but most of all enjoy your fishing. It will all come together in time. Tight lines
The top tip id gives to newcomers I started feeder fishing and that sparked my passion for fishing don't buy pre-made hook links stronger than your mainline. I'm still reasonably new to fishing so thanks for videos like this. love watching lee Kerry another top tip watch these guys another mistake I didn't only get into watching fishing content the more my passion grew. my 3rd tip look at some of these comments some amazing tips there guys thank you merry Xmas all and a happy new year tight lines and wet nets
tip for beginner natural venue Northern Ireland focused: Don't be afraid to feed heavily. If the fish are there you will catch them, and if they aren't but they do arrive, you need something to hold them. Second tip, if you think fish are there but your not getting bites, contrary to what most people tell you, do try a finer hook length, smaller hook to try and get a bite, in some of the really clear water it can and does make a difference. Once you get a bite to can work your way back up to big hooks and thick hook lengths. But I've seen it where a fine hook length switches the fish on, they have been there feeding all the time, just avoiding your rope.
The tip, be comfortable when your fishing. On these really cold wet days, drop a hand warmer into your boots. If you can stay warm you'll enjoy your fishing far more.
Fantastic video yet again. Keep them coming in 2022. More versus matches please. My advice for beginners is to watch ships tips on the Preston channel and KEEP IT SIMPLE.
For a beginner angler I would advise if match fishing on a certain venue have a practice before, research the venue, look at recent match results on the fishery website, ask other anglers who fish there regularly for tips and find videos on the fishery involved from one of the top match anglers 👍
Use the preston pre tied hook lengths gives you all the hooks you need for any kind of fishing . Once you learned how to tie the hooks you need you have the rig sticks to store your hooks .
The best tip I have been given and pass to anyone who listens is simple. Keeping it simple, dont overthink it, use things that you can understand and baits which you cant get wrong like corn maggots etc coz to enjoy fishing when you first start is to catch.
My tip would be to make sure you have a selection of baits to give the option the get the fish to bite without complicating it to much. i.e. during Winter fishing on Pole i would always have some maggotts, a few casters and Worms with micro pellets. Finally an 18 hook size is a good starting point. Cheers for 2022.
Fishing for the first time? Three basic rules..1 go with someone who not only knows how to catch fish, but knows the venue you are going to fish, so that they can give you the best chance of having a great day with lots of bites and lots of fish in the net. 2 keep it as simple as you can, it helps you to concentrate on the bites and not faff about with unfamiliar tackle and lots of birds nests. 3 most importantly fish on a nice dry warm day. Most bad first experiences of fishing are due to being cold, wet, biteless, and fishless. The first trips are crucial, get it right and you will fish all your life long. Great job all year guys, under the covid cloud you still managed to reach us all some great things to improve our catches. Merry Christmas and a great New year.
New to the sport best of advice is to enjoy the whole experience from the great outdoors to catching fish as a bonus
My tip for beginners is to watch as many videos on fishing techniques as possible.

Keep it up.
Great video as always! My tip to a new person starting is to enjoy the fishing your catching and take care of them, a small fishing will become the bigger fish we all dream of.

Try to keep the feeder within a 3m area. Good luck 👍
my advice too a beginner , especially in winter , Be patient, make sure to keep warm and have a nice hot flask with TEA/ COFFEE, AND FEED LITTLE AND OFTEN. Good Luck.
Great advice! Don't forget the snack pack😬
what a great video great to watch four great fishermen in one great place.
Brilliant, just brilliant.....top anglers....good video Preston Innovations!!!
Firstly I have to say what a brilliant video this has been, fished by 2 great ambassadors of match fishing. My tip for a beginner would be to practise and enjoy the sport, take the good with the bad and keep learning, even the top anglers learn from every session

As always a great video, my advice for a new angler would be feed little and often... never overfeed especially in winter!
Never be afraid to ask any other anglers around for advice. Any self respecting angler would jump at the chance to help you. Great video Joe. Keep them coming!!

Superb first show Mark , our Butch and Phil and ofcause Chappers 🔵⚪️👍
Superb video for this match between DES and LEE !!
May they continue to give us wonderful moments at the water's edge.
Merry Christmas and happy New Years to all Preston Innovation lovers. Hello from France !!
Great video as always guy’s, keep them coming! My tip for new anglers on putting more fish in the net is, don’t be afraid to ask questions???
But you have too ask the right person. Based on this video.

Great Christmas video Joe Dez and Lee. Go fishing and have some fun with your mates the rest will follow. Ps keep the video's coming lads great to learn things even at my age.
Now this was a good format ...
Perhaps, you can do this again , when the guys can do it !! Well done boy's .. enjoyed this .... more please !!!
my tip for the winter for a beginner ... if you make a flask of coffee/tea heat the milk up in microwave then add to flask !! will keep your coffee/tea hot all day .. will keep you warm and help you catch more fish
Both excellent anglers, will it be feeder or pole, sure we will learn something from the day & from both of them
Great video! My tip to beginner would be to keep it simple and enjoy all the time while fishing.
Always plumb your depth, and watch these videos 👍👍👍
Absolutely fantastic video.
My tip for beginners would be to feed little and often to try encourage fish into the peg.
Plenty of great videos to watch .
Tight lines
Small hooks
Feed 2 or 3 swims
Keep feeding nice and tight
And pick your line in the distance to help make sure you repeat the same casts
Make sure your seating area is nice and tidy and everything’s to hand !
Keep it as light and simple as possible. Enjoy winter fishing!!
Great entertaining match, picked up a lot there. Thanks guys.
48 minutes in, Des is so smooth, I use the deluxe end section pole roost with the legs,😍 but des has something self supporting ? What is it??
The tip id always suggest is make sure your plumb up the area you’re fishing, can make all the difference when hitting every bite. Merry Christmas 🎅🏽
Brilliant guys thx alot 😉
All the best to you all 🌟
As for tips for beginners. Just watch these guys 👍
Great video ... would recommend starting on a good commercial stocked with plenty of fish
First of all thank's for taking all the time you took to explain how you both prepared for the match. That goes also to the most important tip for a starter. "Watch those video's from Preston Innovation" and bring them into practice. You don't need much more !
If you’re new to fishing my tip is always be accurate and makes notes on what worked and what didn’t
Hi guys brilliant video as always,
What I would advise a newcomer to our passion is go with someone that shares the same enthusiasm as yourself or failing that pop along to a well established club and ask to sit behind a club member or members and don’t be afraid to ask questions but be sure not to hinder their fishing and put the newly gained knowledge to practice,
Keep up the good work chaps and merry Christmas to all
Best advice for a beginner I could give is to make sure you pick a marker on other side of the lake either a bench peg or a tree for when you are plumbing up and keeping your feeding area accurate and also make sure you enjoy it
Great video. My tip is to talk to the people in the local tackle shop. They’re a brilliant source for tips on where and how to fish. They want you to have a good days fishing so you’ll come back again!
Spend a couple of weeks looking through the ‘how to’ vids and also the Q&A on this channel - tons to learn. 👍
Great video guys, my tip is watching these type of videos always help and ask for advice from fellow anglers.
Merry Christmas, great video as always. My tip for a beginner is always spend some time plumbing the depth looking for any features in your swim.
Merry Christmas to all. My tip for new anglers is dont over complicate things, learn how to plumb up correctly and feed little and often.
Tight lines everybody and merry Christmas to the team at Preston innovation and all the subscribers 👍👌🤶🎅🤣🎁🍻
my top for a beginner is never be afraid to ask questions from an angler who is catching fish . this will help massively.
Can we see how Des and Lee set up their top kits please, both were using a very different set up, has Lee adapted a pole roller to take adapters?
Looking forward to seeing this.👍🏻🎣
For a beginner angler I would advise if match fishing on a certain venue have a practice before, research the venue, look at recent match results on the fishery website, ask other anglers who fish there regularly for tips and find videos on the fishery involved from one of the top match anglers 👍
Use the preston pre tied hook lengths gives you all the hooks you need for any kind of fishing . Once you learned how to tie the hooks you need you have the rig sticks to store your hooks .
My tip would be don't afraid to ask. Anglers are generally a pleasant bunch and will share tips and info if asked
Enjoyed the video as usual, top tip for beginners always keep it simple and stay safe. 🎣🎣
Brilliant video and great advice thanks 😊
