This year was my 3rd year hunting at age 42 and I've already realized from the first year that there is no such thing as a bad hunt. Getting to be in nature and stalking the animals is just as great as tagging something. Getting to hear elk and coyotes in the morning, and seeing the stars at night. It's just as amazing.
I truly am learning from you Clay, thanks for taking time out of your life to put the work in to not only do what you do but film it as well, I've never had a mentor growing up so trial and error has been my teacher most of my life, having brothers like you allow me to pinpoint specific flaws and correct them without fatigue on myself or arrows.
Then every single hunting trip like this is a success. Can't go wrong with that. So stunning out there. Thank you for letting us live vicariously through you.
Just to see someone hunt with a stick bow makes my heart soar like an eagle. Seeing how archery is going today make me sad. You enjoy this because it’s the way it should be!!!
Great timing on this video. Just got back from walking the dogs at -7°. Could enjoy watching this all day with coffee and the fire going. Tnx's for another great vid.
I really enjoy your videos because it’s all about hunting, not getting. Nice to watch videos that focus on things other than big antlers and success defined by the kill.
Another great video adventure! Nothing more fun than tradbow hunting for deer in the snow. Last year we had early snows, I came very close to pulling back on a bruiser 8, twice. Loved the experience, saw deer and turkey all day. This year, I was blessed to take that bruiser 8 with my #40 VPA longbow at 16 yards. He is just shy of a 150ish. I'm having a shoulder mount for my Grandsons to see. Something very special and fun about hunting in snow. Always thumbs up from the 641...
Wow am I glad I found this channel! great content all around. My favorite things about late season hunting/camping, no bugs, no snakes, less people and you don't have to worry about refrigeration much.
You are more than welcome to come to the U.S. Especially if you have a hard work ethic. Most Americans don't pull their weight & are way too lazy. It's been like that forever. I think we should just trade all the lazy ones or all the folks trying to come in for a better life cause to they will pull in their weight.

Looks like a tremendous hunt! I was lucky enough to do some self tent hunts in Wyoming and Colorado although not for whitetails. Whitetail hunts here in my home state of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, and yeah they are a lot more wary and difficult to get in range with traditional equipment. Love your distinction between hunting and killing, most don’t get it or even try to understand that sentiment. Merry Christmas to you and your family and friends!
The Dakotas winter (South Dakota) will also redefine comfort with winds, some snow years, quick temperature changes, slick patches of Ice/snow packed down etc.
Great hunt Clay. Reminds me of the late season elk hunts in Washington State back in the 90's. With two wall tents, one for cooking one for sleeping. Those early morning wake ups with a chill in the air. The only heat was from lantern and cook stove. We had deer tags as well chasing black tails, not always filling a tag. Enjoying the times with good friends, I miss those hunts. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Totally made my Christmas Eve to see a new video from you! Happy hunting. Got a 4 day doe season next Wednesday to end the year out here in West Virginia with my 8yr old son!
Couple things to take away here. Clay is in damned good shape to walk through that snow up and down mountains. And you’re a damned good hunter to stalk that close to one of the most amped up animals on the continent. Great video! Merry Christmas to you and your family!!
Great Video, Thanks for sharing. We have set up wall tent camps for generations and hunted similar country. I couldn't imagine a life with out it. Our late season whitetail hunt is my favorite hunt of the year. Merry Christmas to you and you family.
Epic cinematography and narration! I really enjoyed the hunt. Can't wait to see the upcoming hog hunts. Wishing you & your family a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year!
Every hunt is a successful hunt if you love it I’ve never left the woods feeling disappointed I’m just grateful I have the opportunity to deer hunt in this country many countries no longer allow hunting which I would never comply with those laws it’s my right as a natural man to hunt
The Quality of these hunts you do are beyond that of the Outdoor Channel. These you do Clay, they have overdubs they forget to put into 90% of the Hunting and fishing on there except the guy from South Dakota who did one show Benny Spiers who did a show in the South Dakota and into North Dakota when possible. He Even Hunted with a Coworker of mine during Migratory Bird season who is now head of School Lunch and Breakfast program in the Pierre district of Pierre (pirre) South Dakota but the show got canceled. If I ever did a show of my hunting on TH-cam it would be fully in the Go Pro Style using a slightly older Go Pro for the hunting stuff, going as an in person look from my height of 5 foot 2 inch and how small I am.
Love your videos. I hunt in Missouri , out of stands. Would love to stalk. I learn a lot from your videos! Thank you so much for sharing! Good on ya and best of luck
You know what would be Kool, if you came up with some sort of contest where the winner gets to come out and do a bow making seminar and shadow you on a hunt.
Clay Hayes summited The Matterhorn by accident while on vacation in Europe. He was out for a morning jog and thought it looked like a fun hill to run up.
All due respect to you and your guests. But I bet there would be a great video series on on how you keep in shape and what you eat so that these hunts are taxing.
Merry Christmas Eve Clay, and thank yall for a fine video and the efforts put into it! My wife and I are vacationing in DC and plan to show our respects at Arlington Cemetery today at just over single digit temperature. Shouldn’t be crowded.
I was born and raised in Idaho but not where there were any white tailed deer. Watching your dedicated hunting there makes me long for the greatness of the Idaho outdoors. I left Idaho in 1974 but it never left me. I love watching your videos Clay.
Fitness in Hunting is not stressed enough. Old Boy from GA gassed on the hills sees the limits a man places on his ability by not training for the season.
I'm not sure where you were , it looked like Idaho, I've done most of my deer hunting in Southern Oregon for black tail and north east Oregon for mule deer, I really enjoyed the later hunts for mule deer and elk, it makes them taste better if you get one.
How do you keep your odor down after cooking, being around a fire, coffee order and such and returning for an afternoon hunt. Or in your case hunting for several days. I can’t wrap my head around how it’s possible with limited resources while camping.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Definitely an awesome experience/adventure I’m sure. If you don’t mind sharing, what brand is the snow camo hoodie/jacket you’re wearing in parts of the video? It looks very warm. I’m assuming it’s very quiet as well since you’re wearing it well archery hunting? Thanks again for sharing your hunts with us.
I have been bow hunting for many years and have never spotted one I think it is like sending some one out snipe hunting. The only place I have found them is in stores.😜
Hi Clay great vids and content much appreciated here in the uk, can you answer a question that’s been playing on my mind, we’ve recently had temps down to minus 10c or so and I was wondering does this impact upon the performance of the bow or increase a chance of a breakage when temps drop? Many thanks for great content.
Hey Clay, saw your camp up there @ 58 this year. It was a tough year. Thanks for not tellin the world where this place is. You gonna be back next year?
Where I live we don't have any Osage trees but we do have a lot of mulberry trees. I was wondering if you could do a video on building a bow out of a mulberry tree
Clay, I apologize if you've answered this question one too many times by now...but what do you do, if anything, to weatherproof the fletching on your arrows? Thanks...really enjoy watching your videos!
This is it Clay! Here in Greece, bow hunting is not permitted... and even less it' s not permitted hunting on snow covered areas. We - the traditional archers - envy you! Merry Christmas and God bless you and your family! Keep doing what you' re doing!
I'm glad you made this video. It really captured the spirit of what I enjoy most about winter hunting. I live and hunt in the rockies of Alberta and hunted 7 or 8 days this November in 2 feet of snow and -10 to -30C temperatures. Like you, I never took one shot at a whitetail but had many satisfying opportunities where I stalked within 20 yards before getting busted, usually by a savvy doe. I know exactly the look she gave you when she locked on, lol! Now that the general big game season is over I'm still out hunting upland birds and snowshoe hair, and you could have no better day than wandering around in the mountains in winter by yourself with a bow. Keep up the great content!
Man I know that’s harder than it looks , but I as a Ky boy have a romantic vision of wall tents and snow , deer hunting w stick and string, the comrade and warm stove , looks like heaven to me

Agree 100% with this

My man's out here pishing at birds while hunting white-tails...from the ground...with a selfbow. Legend.

I’ve been wanting a trad bow for years. Being able to harvest an animal with a traditional bow is the benchmark of a true hunter. Awesome video.
More spot and stalk bowhunts. This is the most interesting content to me. Nice work.
Camping in a wall tent with wood stove and a beautiful recurve bow. Can’t bet better than that.I miss my recurve bow hunting times

That tent is brilliant. Any roman general would feel right at home in that.

Nice big canvas tent!
Looks like a great experience.
You sir are a great hunter. Thanks for the AWESOME video. 👌

I love that you got a drone now. It makes the coolest wilderness shots for what you do! Nice purchase

Do people find tracks in the snow and follow them near there like we do in the northeast or do you just stalk and still hunt?
