The Decimate line was a joke about how people commonly misuse the word, but he uses it more correctly in killing off ten percent as a punishment. Deci meaning ten. It's funnier in metric.

Technically, the current use of the word is now correct as well, according to the dictionaries. But yes the original word came from the practice of decimation, where a tenth of a Roman military unit would be put to death as punishment

Yes, that is a defining characteristic of The Master. In all of his incarnations, he's quite flamboyant and incredibly fun to watch. You really, really want to like him, even when The Master is committing horrors. John Simms is an incredibly good choice to play The Master.

Just having them puts the Master centuries ahead of even the US in terms of firepower. Of note also, while UNIT has branches in other countries, the hierarchy still goes back to Britain... The way the UK elections work is that the Prime Minister will call a general election for a soon to be upcoming date. All of Parliament then dissolves after that and its then weeks of campaigning etc. Once the country has voted, whatever party has the most seats up to a certain number, that party leader becomes prime minister. If there's a hung parliament, where no party has enough seats to control power, another party can work with another to reach the amount required. The one with the most seats still becomes prime minister, and they become prime minister that very day after conversing with the king/queen.

      Spot on
The only thing to add, the king/queen meets the PM once every week to discuss what's a happening and can in theory advise the PM on what the rest of the world might think - given all their royal tours and meetings with world leaders the monarchy can devote a lot more time to understanding the international mood than the PM of the day
That said if the PM refuses advice that us their progrative and the monarchy will accept the final decision
The monarch's only other real power Is that should we ever have a pm who is caught doing something bad like drug smuggling or sex criming then the monarchy has the authority to dismiss the PM on grounds of "embarrassment" stupid term but it Is the legal terminology

The Toclafane... 😭 They are, to me, far scarier than the Daleks. Once you know who they are, and their back story... They're truly the stuff of nightmares.
I love Voodoo Child, and I love the next song. This episode was fantastic. I love this Master. That energy, that cute but crazed grin... Aside from the actual crazy, he's very much like Tennant's Doctor. In the last episode, as soon as I saw Professor Yana, I started tapping (dun dun dun dun... dun dun dun dun... dun dun dun dun...) without realising it at first. So well done.

27:41 As you may have noticed, the Season Enders involve "THE BIG BAD". The Master was the signature villain of The Third Doctor. He was the main villain in every story in Season 9 and kept popping back after that. His plans were to cause mayhem, kill The Doctor or control parts of the galaxy to eventually control the rest. He started in Classic Who as being on his last Life, so stories with the Fourth Doctor iand later ncluded schemes to get a ful new life or set of regenerations, Counting the movie "Harold Saxon" is the 19th Incarnation of The Master.

Funny Classic Who Fact: The 7th Doctors companion Ace always called him "Professor" or "The Professor". Roger Delgado, who played the first incarnation of The Master, sadly died while on holiday before he was meant to return for what was going to be the very last appearence of The Master, when it would be revealed at the end that he was, in fact, The Doctors brother. This obviously never happened, the story was replaced as a mark of respect to Roger Delgado and The Master would not appear again till the episode after Sarah-Jane left the show in The Deadly Assassin. After Anthony Ainley joined the show and became the actor who would play the role from the end of Tom Bakers era until the show disappeared in 1989, in one particular Peter Davidson story, The Master is about the be "apparently" destroyed, when he yells out to The Doctor "How could you do this to your own..." and vanishes. Russell including the "secret brother" line was basically him showing his dislike of the whole "brother" thing and in my opinion, making sure it never happens

  • @PantheonLincoln
    @PantheonLincoln 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

    Fun fact:
"Mister Saxon" is an anagram of "Master No. Six" - indicating John Simm's Master as the sixth overall incarnation of the character seen on screen. Prior to Derek Jacobi (as fleeting as it was, Professor Yana counts and Jacobi has reprised the role for audio stories) and Simm, last time the Master was seen, he was played by Eric Roberts in the 1998 TV Movie alongside Paul McGann's 8th Doctor.
That movie was supposed to be a pilot for a new series that didn't happen back then.

I'll call out two moments to summarise the Master in brief:
The first actually comes from the previous episode, when Chan'Tho pulled a gun on him, he said "Ohh... now I can say I was provoked!" Meaning he was fully planning on murdering Chan'Tho from the moment he saw her, and was simply pleased to have an excuse.
The second is the scene in this episode where he kills the other politicians with a thumbs up after explaining to them what funny looks like. There are a lot of complexities behind why The Master is how he is and does what he does, but the most basic reason? It's fun!

It isn't peak Who, but back in the day, PBS would use it during pledge drives as a starter episode for newcomers and a fan favorite.

The Doctor with sonic at the end of the last episode, locked the TARDIS time circuits... The Master could only move to roughly the same time as The Doc came from... so he went back as far as he could and grabbed as much power as he could.

    K9, Blown up.
There was also a point where 5th and 6th Doctor companion Peri was killed off because she got separated from The Doctor and an insane alien cut out her brain and inserted its own.
That timeline was aborted the next episode though, as the production team were uncomfortable leaving the character dead like that. So she’s still alive, married to Brian Blessed I think.

It's funny you mentioned the Daleks actually comparing to the Toclafance because when showrunner Russell T. Davies brought the show back in 2005 his original intention was to have the Toclafane as the new Daleks incase he didn't get the approval from the Terry Nation esate to use the Daleks thankfully that didn't happen because i don't think the new series of "Dr. Who" wouldn't had been as successful without the Daleks.
