There are few female voices that make lasting impressions on me, but IU is definitely one. I discovered only 5 years ago recommend her. Glad you're on the band wagon. 🎉
This 15 year old wouldn't have imagined what she is gonna be in future. Although she was body shamed and cursed in 1st stage performance but today she is most loved artist in korea. This is one of the most favourite song of IU of mine. I'm happy she never gave up. Love her ♾️
I still loved this song so much...if you heard IU sang this again in her mid 20s (live 2018 Dlwlrma Concert, there are clips on youtube), you'll notice the contrast where her voice already matured and more steady. I think the song sounds more amazing.
Yes, IU ! She was 15 when she made her debut with this song. She said at an interview lately that she has a Love hate relationship with this song. It has deep lyrics that she had a hard time to grasp when she sang it. A lot happend since then. Her next comeback will be at the 24.01.2024 with the song "Love Wins" and later an mini album.
I could only imagine that it's a very complex relationship with this song, oh! I am fairly new to comebacks and stuff so am excited to finally start paying attention to this one
The live stage was the good choice here because the debut flopped in no small measure because the MV came off as macabre for a 15 year old… she did some bubblegum stuff and singer-songwriter type music afterward until she won her artistic freedom to write, produce etc after her smash hit Good Day. There’s a Japanese orchestra version of Lost Child and a rock version you might like.
She's done so many different styles of music over the years and now writes and composes her songs too. The way she sings authentically from the heart makes her my favorite artist of all time. I love everything she does, even including the songs that don't have videos.
Still can’t believe IU was only 15 years old when she debuted with this very measure song! IU said she didn’t understand the lyrics and it was a very hard song for her age during one of the recent interviews. She had the balls to come out as a soloist during this time when it was all about idols groups! She is a fighter and this is one of the reason why she is still on top!
Honestly I thought when I started this whole journey, there is no way that a single artist is as big as a group of idols, but she's really got a hold of a very special position in music that I don't think many people can ever pull off or replicate
With how her style has shifted and evolved over the years, I have to say I generally prefer the style of her music in later years, starting from around 2012 and especially from 2015 onwards (Lost Child was in 2008). I really do like her early music too, just in a different way I suppose, while her later stuff is REALLY my vibe, if that makes sense. Incidentally she has also started writing and composing more of her own music, so it's nice to see that the newer style I love is also what she likes herself. BUT there are still plenty standout songs in her early years that I do love a lot, and this is definitely one. It's so impressive. And I think there are quite a lot of people who haven't even heard a lot of her early stuff. I wasn't sure initially if you were going to start with her debut; I suppose these days not many people would hear her debut before any of her newer stuff (I know I didn't, I think the first song I heard by her was Twenty-Three from 2015). Anyway, such a great start to the week!!!
yes! I always like to start with their debut because its a great way to see how they started and just see the time in between and that growth they have over the time period is one of my favorite things
@@Killdeer25 Same! I like experiencing an artist's discography chronologically. I think you didn't start the Twice OWC with their debut, that's why I wasn't sure, but maybe I am misremembering.
Oh wow. I was not expecting this kind of song for her debut! I have heard a handful or so of her songs and know she does a lot of styles but I was definitely expecting her debut to be something cuter and younger sounding from the nations's little sister. This was great.
From a poor and broken childhood, IU was so driven for success she was able to debut in 2008 at age 15 with "Lost Child" from a small company LOEN Entertainment after the Big 3 Entertainment Companies (SM, YG, and JYP) had rejected her. Now at age 30, IU has reached legendary status, the most successful and famous solo artist in South Korea, the "Idol of Idols", and an A-List Celebrity and Movie Actress so beloved and respected by the public she was bestowed the title of "The Nation's Little Sister".
This song was not recieved well by kpop fans. It is understandable why her agency selected it, because it does showcase her voice. The subject matter, a break up and being in love were not the subjects that in 2008 kpop fans were interested in hearing from a 15 year old. They made an MV but withheld it for 3 years due the overall reaction to the song. Note music credits generall liked the song. I personally love it. After this debute her agency when back to the drawing board and IU entered her cutiz phase. She achieve national superstardom in 2010 with her song Good Day. In late 2013 she took over control of her music and started to release more songs she had written and composed. In 2014 The New York wrote, after the kpop convention in LA, that IU was showing the way forward for kpop. Then again in 2018 in an article about music's influence on culture they listed the top 25 most influential artist, IU was listed 9th. And then in January of 2023 Rolling Stone Magazine released an update to their list of the 200 Greatest Singers of All Time, IU became the 1st Korean singer to makke the list. After IU's appearance at the Kpop convention in LA in 2014, she stated in an interview that it was frustrating because her english wasn't very good and that hampered her ability to interact with the fans, sonething that is a very big part of concerts and she said she would learn English before returning to the States. She hired an english teacher and has had chances to practice her English has their are places, like Singapore where English is the main language. She has announced plans for a world tour but details have not yet been released. IU is also an outstanding actress and model. Enjoy your journey. And she has several behind the scenes videos from her tours that will give you great insight into her as a person. Like how she started giving encores that can last 2 1/2 hours. I kid you not. Now it has become as she stated in a recent interview part of her concert culture. And it started during her 10th anniversary concert in Seoul, and was driven in part because she didn't feel like she had given her fans the performance they had paid for. Again I kid you not. But this is the person she is. One last example, earlier this week she left for Milan, she is a global Ambassador for GUCCI, at the airport fans were waiting for her. She talked to them and continued to wave and make eye contant with then the entire time until she was no longer in sight.
I love this, thank you for the info. she sounds incredible! I could see why this wasnt well received at first, it does feel so different from just about everything I had seen including this song. but honestly I didnt think the song was bad, but it is what it is. if she comes by my city I will go to her world tour, I trust she will be comfortable with everything since then whaaaat! 2 1/2 hours? thats wild! talk about getting your moneys worth, I love the fact that she is so kind to her fans, and honestly that gives me vibes that shes probably just like that with as many people as she can
I've heard quite a few IU songs, but this was my first time hearing this. And although I agree with you, I would never have associated IU with "grit" and "indie".
I record in advance, and I can come back and say, yeah, the grit has definitely subsided, she still has a indie lounge feel, it's very different from anything I have ever heard
Such a strong start!! She was so nervous, the adorable girl. She has no idea how huge she's about to become. Loved your reaction!! ❤ Can't wait for the next. Her company did struggle with how to establish her image so there's some cutesy thrown in a lot at the start before it evens out to just being IU.
@@Killdeer25 It just really doesn't go where you expect melody-wise, I was not expecting that growl, I thought her early songs/debut would be pure syrupy pop, you know what they say about assumptions! My bad. Maybe this will make sense, I was expecting pink happiness and I basically got graphite angst. I got through high school with the Cure and Skinny Puppy, I would have listened to this then, no lie. Last thought, which I don't have enough music theory skills to be able to explain but this somehow reminds me of wedding dress by Taeyang from BigBang, I like angst I guess. 💜

yeah! this is going to be a crazy time! I am so glad everyone wanted me to do this

can you imagine if she knew, where she would end up?

Yeah. I will straight up tell you, I have through Wednesday recorded and you are so correct on this

Agreed, I have a few videos of those smaller examples, including peaches coming out soon, she really does do everything. Super dope

very unexpected, and she changed a ton just from this song too so obviously I dont think (from what I hear) was not the idea that they wanted
