    Just got the andersen weight distribution hitch installed on my truck and tested it out this past weekend and loved how it did on the bridges and it was a gusty windy day and it made the truck and trailer act as 1 unit.i'm like you got to get it to a level parking lot and readjust and fine tune it cause I setup it up in my gravel and people at the campground couldn't believe how level it made my truck.would highly recommend this hitch

    Ran the Anderson WDH all last year pulling around 3000 miles across 16 different camping trips. Fully satisfied with this WDH. Quiet operation, good sway control, light weight, cleaner/easier to handle, no tensioning bar to slip.

      That has been my experience so far too. Getting ready to release a part 3 showcasing how well it has treated me over 2 seasons, 2 trucks, and about the same number of camping trips. I’ve probably put around 5,000 miles on the system now through some of the toughest towing conditions (mountains of WV). Glad you had the same experience, thanks for sharing.

    We have the same set up and love it. We get a lot people come up to us asking about it, because they see the chains and not the solid bars. So head up

    The best thing I like about it that you don't have to get the ball angled right plus you don't have to worry with trying to get the bars on with a bad disc. Plus you don't have to worry with grease it to try to control the noise and get grease all over you

    Good info. Appreciate you sharing your experience so far.. Im considering buying this hitch and look forward to hearing from you on how it performs.

      We just installed it, and we love it better then the equalizer E 4 sway control. It’s easier and quicker to hitch up in comparison to the other. It’s smoother towing. And less bumpy.

    Thanks for the introduction to the Anderson H&S device.

    I'd be shortening your drop hitch shank as much as possible, sticking out a fair ways. You'd be amazed how much each inch adds to the forces involved.

    Have you ever measured your front wheel wells to see the before and after with the Anderson. I just don't understand how it does the weight distribution part .

    • @adamdouglas1729
      @adamdouglas1729 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It adds tension which pulls up on the rear end of the tow vehicle.

    Good video. No need for how to install, because as you said, there are plenty out there. I am concerned on the weight distribution part as that (can) cause rotation of the frame bracket. Also curious how quickly the pushing in the ball section wears out. Anderson does make a how-to video on replacing it, so it is not that big of a deal. On to video 2. Thanks

    Great video but I would have like to have seen you disconnecting the hitch after you mentioned how quick and easy it is.

    Can the ball be removed? I have a Coupler Connect Plus that I’d like to install on a distribution hitch (if I can find one it’ll work with).

    • @dwellbig
      @dwellbig  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it can not. The ball is one piece with the part that accepts the coupler for the chains underneath. Inside that housing is a plastic material that provides the resistance for the sway control. You can remove that entire piece from the shank, but you cannot remove just the ball.

    You did a great job on this video, thanks for sharing!
    I have a couple questions:
    a. What's the available payload of your Tundra? Do you feel like you exceed it most times (hitch weight, passengers, cargo, water tank, etc) with that size of trailer?
    b. Was the front of your truck higher than the back, even slightly when fully loaded and set up? Do you measure?
    c. I can follow how this system controls trailer sway, but other than adjusting some of the mounts, how can a taut, non rigid "arm" like a chain, distribute weight? I don't get it.....
    Sorry if you answered some or all of my questions in your video(s).

    • @dwellbig
      @dwellbig  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes often I exceed the payload slightly. (Maybe by 200 lbs or so). But if I am running dry on the trailer then I am likely just within payload. I do not actually have much gear or weight in the truck. A little firewood and myself, wife and son.
      As for the squat, with this system and the truck/trailer combo it basically just takes the rake out of the truck (visually). So the truck is probably ~2 or so inches higher in the rear than the front from factory. This setup basically consumes that 2” difference but no more. So visually the truck is sitting level (but I have not measured).
      Lastly think about a slightly flattened out capital letter “A”. The left side being the trailer, right side being the truck and the connecting bar in the middle being this chain system. If you tighten that chain up it raises the front of the trailer and the rear of the truck, therefore distributing more weight to the front of the truck. That’s the best way I can describe it. I will admit it does seem a big magical but the geometry is solid and I can attest it does exactly what it claims to do.

      @@dwellbig Thank you! Your description allowed me to better understand it. I appreciate it.

    • @guild70
      @guild70 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your description of an "A" is good. The chains are acting in tension to limit how far the top point of the A can be lowered. There is nothing magic about weight distribution - just limiting how far the rear is allowed to sag with a given force at the tongue/hitch. If you think of an extreme situation where you put enough force on the hitch that the front wheels lift off the ground you have zero weight on the front wheels. In a given towing situation you aren't changing the force, though, that remains constant. Limit the sag at the rear, you limit lift at the front, and therefore retain weight on the front wheels.

    They work great, but at over $600.00 way over priced. The cheapest place I could find it of all places was Wal-Mart on line. $559.99.

  • @gardnetbush9768
    @gardnetbush9768 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only problem is the highest towing rate it have is 10,000lb so if your trailer is bigger you can forget about it

    • @dwellbig
      @dwellbig  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is for the version with the 2” ball and 2” shank. The 2 5/16” ball and 2 inch shank gives 14,000 GTWR. 2 5/16” ball and 2 1/2” shank gives 16,000 GTWR.
      The two ball sizes with 2” shank have 1,400 lbs tongue weight and the 2 1/2 shank gives up to 1,600 lbs tongue weight.
      The exact one I have can handle a trailer up to 14,000 lbs with a 1,400 lbs tongue weight.

Decided to email the company and call and hoped they would own there fabrication error and chose not to. Mind you We have paid full price for the last three and many folks bought based on Our input. Never thought they would blow this off. We really thought a new box would show up on our door step 2 day air. Never did. That's why so many other companies are copying their design!
    Even Reese is copying them now along with four or five other companies!
