Its amazing how inspiration in actors and directors trickle down through history, I hope one day someone is inspired by me and my style, then someone else will be inspired by them thus creating a wonderful echo of my legacy immortalizing my memory forevermore😌
A new movie based on the broadway musical was supposed to be made, but was canceled. If they had done it again, I would have loved to see Jim Carrey as the patient. He would have gave a great comedic performance just for one scene. Bill Murray did a good job with it too.
The most amazing thing about this appearance is that even though it is one of Jack's earliest, he is already a completely polished, mature actor. Same thing with Brando's early screen-test at age 23.
BungalowBill905 it’s all relative. an actor who got famous in his 30s like nicholson and harrison ford would be considered young when looking back at the roles from his 20s.
The thing about jack nicholson, is that he is creepy as fuck in this performance. There is something truly creepy about his performance here. The laughter reaction is just plain creepy. While i love bill murray as a comedian, it comes off as more funny than creepy.
_The patient came to me with a large hole in his abdomen caused by a fire poker used on him by his wife. He almost bled to death and gangrene had set in. I din't give him much of a chance. There were other complications; the man had cancer, tuberculosis, leprosy, and a touch of the grippe. I decided to operate..._
He probably talked about the movie and the musical when they did the surgery scenes. *Jack:* Wait aren't these tools from Little Shop of Horrors? *Tim:* Ya. *Jack:* I was in the original movie back in 1960. I played the guy Bill played in the musical. *Tim:* Oh ya. How did you get your voice that high? *Jack:* I wasn't a heavy smoker back then.
I can't believe how young Nicholson looks, he even had a full head of hair! He must have been around my age at this time. He's always had that crazy voice, and those eyebrows I guess!
Jack Nicholson and bill murray are two of my favorite actors, and they both played the same part as a masochist in the little shop of horrors in one of their early roles. Weirdest cooincidence ever.
Totally! I thought I was the only one hearing the resemblence. But to be honest the "Goodie, goodie here it comes." Was the first time when I thought "That's it!" :D
Nicholson getting cast as the joker 30 years later was honestly just a recognition on how amazing a 23 year old Nicholson joker would've been. Still great, but you see the Joker in him in this. Its blends his comedic style with some of heath's darkness.
I was expecting something more wholesome since this is an older movie even tho I've seen the remake 😂😂 this is just as creepy as some of his dialogue in The Shining
The Own oh, sorry! You never know ;) some people might not know that he played the joker. But I agree 100%! He was so great in the role of the joker and it suited him like a glove.
If Jack still looked like that today, and was still in his prime, he'd woulda been the perfect joker for dk!. HELL, He'd woulda been the Best in the 89' Movie!

Hm, I thought he seemed more like Jim Carrey although one of the recommended videos shows DiCaprio doing a Jack Nisholson facial impression (which Jim Carrey also does)
Loved this film. It's hard to believe the same guy who wrote this would go on to write Death Race 2000, a film so bad it was funny as hell. Man I hope they do a remake of Little Shop that's more like this one and not a musical.
This is the first time I ever saw Jack Nicolson that young, I don't even recognise him as the one I am used to see lol, it's cool to see him here and oh my has he changed :D I had to like squint my eyes to see that it really was him lol
Yeah, the scene is great, because it effing Jack Nicholson. But can we talk a moment about how great and surrealist the writing and setting is? A magazine called "Pain" in a doctors' waiting room?
This is the movie version my mother owns, my boyfriend has the second version. I've actually never seen the first one because my mother told me that it wasn't what I thought (whatever that means, I didn't even know what Little Shop of Horrors was back then) and I wouldn't like it but my boyfriend had me watch the 1986 movie which I enjoyed, I should dig out this version at my mothers house at watch it.
@TheSwiftwings, you can't find the colorized version for free legally from interned because it's restored. The original black and white- version with mono- sound is old, so it's in public domain. ;)
He was as creepy back than as he is now. Makes sense that one of his first roles was a dentist-loving masochist. Was he born this creepy? I get chills imagining baby Jack Nicholson.
You can see how Jim Carrey was hugely influenced by Nicholson. The facial expression, the voice tone and the body language are the same.
Its amazing how inspiration in actors and directors trickle down through history, I hope one day someone is inspired by me and my style, then someone else will be inspired by them thus creating a wonderful echo of my legacy immortalizing my memory forevermore😌
I'm Streed pleased to meet ya

Seymour: "I want the tooth!"
Nicholson: "You can't handle the tooth!"
Wow I know I’m three years late but that was good
I love it when he says "I'm in terrible pain!" and then laughs maniacally. That's hilarious!
I have never imagined that I can say "cute" to Jack Nicholson
Jack was 23 then. He's such a cool dude. I like his laugh in this movie
I don't think the man's gone a moment in his life without being creepy.
Nope
watch 1963 The Raven then, he plays Lorre's son in that movie and he isn't that creepy, it's mainly Price and Lorre's movie though
He wasn't creepy in The Terror. In that one he was just a french soldier.
He's not really creepy in A Few Good Men - just aggressive.
Well he isn't that creepy in As Good As It Gets.
I couldn't get over how Jack made his voice so high!😂
Actually, his voice was naturally high and nasal for most of his early career, really, but he was a smoker which made his voice lowered......
@@flannerymonaghan-morrs4740 I guess then smoking was a good thing
@@kryptonitespider-bitedynam7305 not at all, his voice is way better in this
It would've been nice to see him return in the 86 version, but Bill Murray nailed that one :D

@Woodcock Johnson he played the role that Nicholson had in this one
Ladies and gentlemen I give you Jack Nicholson playing Jack Nicholson.
The most amazing thing about this appearance is that even though it is one of Jack's earliest, he is already a completely polished, mature actor. Same thing with Brando's early screen-test at age 23.
he was 23 years old then
great acting even in his younger days
@SamWinchesterPhanGirl11 No, he looks forty, haha. Have you seen this movie? Because in better quality you can see him better.
Is Jack Nicholson the king of insane acting?
Just go watch The Shining then we'll talk
Klaus Kinski.
Morbius Fitzgerald he's not acting he's really insane
Yeah, definitely man
BananaPhoPhilly him and Nicholas Cage
Wow he's practically a baby here
23 isn't that young
BungalowBill905 it’s all relative. an actor who got famous in his 30s like nicholson and harrison ford would be considered young when looking back at the roles from his 20s.
He reminds me of a young Harrison Ford mixed with Lon Chaney Jr
Jesus he would've made a great Joker in his younger years.
+Lazarus Pitts He wasn't that bad a Joker some thirty years later, either. But, yes.
Leakim Irrabilu Reading comprehension.
Esa Karjalainen He was a fantastic Joker
Also would have made a great Wolverine with that rage of his, just needed a personal trainer.
What you ok about he was a great joker lol
It's hard to beat Jack Nicholson!!! Imagine Nicholson as the mad dentist!!!!
He should have played the dentist. Definitely
The thing about jack nicholson, is that he is creepy as fuck in this performance. There is something truly creepy about his performance here. The laughter reaction is just plain creepy. While i love bill murray as a comedian, it comes off as more funny than creepy.
"Oh my God!! Don't stop now!!" Classic.
It just dawned on me... Jack Nicholson based his horror/crazy persona on Peter Lorre. Mind = blown.
_The patient came to me with a large hole in his abdomen caused by a fire poker used on him by his wife. He almost bled to death and gangrene had set in. I din't give him much of a chance. I'm in love with him. Literally.
So this is the character that Bill Murray's character in the remake is based on.
Lol "Oh, goodie goodie here it comes!"❤️
Jack Nicholson is adorable in a weird way in this movie.
Literally tho!
“It’s been quite an afternoon.”👍
“I’m in terrible pain!!” 😁😂
Evidence that Jack Nicholson was actually young at one point. lol. Gotta love this movie.
He is more like The Joker in this than when he actually played The Joker.
no matter how old or young he is his smile never changes
I like how there's happy music playing while he's pulling his teeth out.
Whohoww! Nicholson had already the crazy acting and the weird smile !!! ^^
Now I know how Tim Burton came to thinking about casting Jack as Joker.
He probably talked about the movie and the musical when they did the surgery scenes.
*Jack:* Wait aren't these tools from Little Shop of Horrors?
*Tim:* Ya.
*Jack:* I was in the original movie back in 1960. I played the guy Bill played in the musical.

Jack was born on April 22nd, 1937, so he was only 22-23 at the time that he did this movie.
To me, Jack Nicholson made the movie, to bad he was only in for a short time
Jack Nicholson and bill murray are two of my favorite actors, and they both played the same part as a masochist in the little shop of horrors in one of their early roles. Weirdest cooincidence ever.
2:35 - 3:16 Close your eyes and enjoy.
God I love Jack. Never seen him this young before.
I've never seen it in colour! This is superb
2:44 That's iDubbbz
I was half expecting him to welcome us to another episode of bad unboxing
I was literally just thinking that😂
Jesus he really does sound like him
Not only does he sound like him, he looks like him

Oh my god this version of the masochist was so creepier than Murray's version!
Wow, even in his first movie Jack played the twisted characters! One of my favorite people in the movie.
Those eyebrows.
It's the only way I can recognize him.
God bless those eyebrows.
That was definitely one memorable scene in that movie! And how!
I just can't believe It's Jack Nicholson he looks so different in this.

So, to answer your question, Jack Nicholson has basically always been like this.
whatever makes you happy and peaceful inside, jack.....
Love this scene, a completely different feeling to it compared to the musical film.
Jack Nicholson is a legend.
Oh, Jack Nicholson. How I love you. ♥
I personally think nicholson did a better job than bill.I love bill as a comedian, but i prefer nicholson.
With Bill it's hard not to be creeped out by his performance even when playing a masochist. Whilst the other is Jack Nicholson.
Nicholson did better because it wasn’t as fake as bill did
I believe Jack's last role in 'How Do You Know" was going to be given to Bill Murray, but Jack ultimately got that role.
Funny. Thanks for posting, one of my favorites.
If memory serves, portions of this clip were shown at the Academy Awards in 1969 (when Easy Rider received a nomination).
Wow, even back then Jack was doing some crazy-ass acting.
Man, that is a great coloring job!
He looked like matt damon when he was young lol
Dentist: Do you know what time it is?
Jack: Tooth Hurty
I love this version...
"Mrs. Shiva, I do a lot of undertaking for her relatives" hah, glad they worked that into the musical
Love that laugh -- "I see it is" -- over-the-top-nuts!

Why does Jack look, sound, and talk exactly like iDubbbz from 2015? The resemblance is uncanny.
He’s so young I didn’t even notice him

Yeah, the scene is great, because it effing Jack Nicholson. But can we talk a moment about how great and surrealist the writing and setting is? A magazine called "Pain" in a doctors' waiting room?
