I can breathe now, Rachel has an amazing voice and I WAS worried that she wouldn't be able to match Carole Lawrence... Rachel's voice is Carole Lawrence and hits all the highest notes perfectly the same as Carole.... I am the biggest fan of the Broadway version. I'm 65 and I saw the Broadway show when I was 10...my uncle took me and we had the best seats. I walked in a young girl and came out a young lady. I have listened to the Soundtrack until I wore the vinyl out and was able to change to CD...I still listen to it weekly and my emotions are always stilled. Thank you Stephen Spielberg for knowing you wanted to keep the Broadway version.... 👏 BRAVO !!
Why haven't we heard about the actual original FIRST Maria? Carole Lawrence and her performances in the original Broadway version is what shaped the character of Maria
@@sherkand7241 Carol Lawrence and Larry Kert were amazing and had such chemistry. It might take a little digging but there are videos on utube of them performing in the original Broadway production. It is definitely worth searching for.
@@troyannbladsacker1811 Hi Troy! Yes I've seen quite a few them and have a whole folder of singing clips and screenshots...it's is a true blessing that the owner shared these with the world.... What was so amazing to me was these clips of performances are exactly what I saw on Broadway when I was 10...I'm sure I saw the original cast. I lived in Queens and my Uncle lived in Manhattan. It must have been a matinee...We had the very best seats. All I can tell you is that I had no idea what a play was, or what I was about to see. It literally changed my life. I went in there a.young girl but came out and older and much more mature young lady.... All the sights and sounds are indelibly protected in my memory. I learned about deep love and hate and happiness, and then fighting and death. These scenes created some of who I became in my life. The magic was when I saw Maria (Carole Lawrence) and Anita (Chita Rivera) in the bedroom singing,"I Have a Love.". ..and then in the very poorly filmed but still recognizable clip on my computer was the exact performance in the exact bedroom I saw on Broadway. Then I went through other clips and there was more of Carole and Larry... What a magnificent gift that was to me. I cried my eyes out ...but I still was so lucky and fortunate to see all the clips from Broadway....thanks for your message to look for the clips, that was very kind of you. I wrote this post months ago, and I guess it's still in Cyberspace! Thanks again!
Kudos to Rachel Lindsay for modeling what great interview skills look and sound like. Many interviewers contort interviews into experiences that focus on them. Rachel Lindsay truly shines the light on her guests with impelling questions and outstanding listening skills. Celebrity interviewers (Drew Barrymore, Kelly Clarkson, etc): Please take notes from Rachel. Brava!
wow i was so scared that this movie would not touch the representation authenically as someone who knows the crictism of the old one and what they did.. but I'm glad how aware they are and excited they are talking about it.. rachel you go!
This has been exactly what I was also wondering...BUT, I just came out of the movie, there was a preshow, and I have no words. I cried through almost all of it and I had brought lots of tissues in anticipation. It blows up the screen. Phenomenal. I don't think there will ever be a movie to beat it. Bless Mr Spielberg...he did it MORE than right
WHY haven't we heard anything about the FIRST Maria, Carole Lawrence? She was the original Maria in the Broadway version and this is what Steven Spielberg has been saying that he is being true to the first West Side Story on Broadway in 1957... Carole Lawrence's performances and amazing vocals are what shaped Maria... does anyone know why they haven't talked to Carole Lawrence? Apparently she is 88 and still alive...
I think it might because of the impact Rita made for the Latino community and what she achieved. I agree that Carole Lawrence did an Amazing job but she didn’t make much of an impact to certain people or a whole community with this movie.
@@alyssafabian5718 yes, you're right about the opportunities she opened up for the Latino community. But I wonder why he hasn't brought out Carole Lawrence bc she is still alive and it is her voice on the Broadway album which Mr. Spielberg has said he is being true to. It is her character acting and singing voice that shaped the first Maria. I have been very apprehensive about what will happen when I see the movie, besides sitting in the back row so I can cry my eyes out! So many people who are unfamiliar with it won't understand it from a perspective of over 55 years, I'm 65. about the Broadway album because I've been listening to it for 55 years. I saw it on Broadway in the best seats. I can visualize every costume, dance step and singing. went in Yesterday I heard Rachel sing "One Hand, One Heart" and I vried
@@sherkand7241 Wow 55 years is a long time to be listening to something….honestly so cool to see your prospective of the movie and how it impacted you compared to how it impacted me someone who just started listening to it in recent years I’m 16 and discovered it 4 years ago so you got some more years on me but I’ll catch up. Also I do agree they should of brought more attention to Carole since she the one who established Maria’s character . Thanks for sharing your opinion very Insightful 😄

Top tier characters
1. Bernardo
2. Anita
The only two characters who were in love with each other not just infatuated with each other
Rachel is the perfect actress to play AOC when they do a movie about her .
Rachel is very talented.
If this is the order I HOPE SS keeps on bringing new TOTALLY FRESH faces to the industry
wow, fell in love with Ariana! give her awards!!
This aged very well.
I can't wait to watch!!!
that is so badass to tell Steven Spielberg no damn Ariana is such a boss
Beautiful and well-spoken women. Brava!
I feel like Anita is the kind of character who would be happy saying no to Steven Spielberg so it probably stood in her favour!
