    Not getting rid of magda/raga/dwarfwith the Grapeshot after Thalia/Giver was dealt with was a mistake. Putting 4 on Winota while she has no way of triggering seems so counterintuitive while magda still has a big board after. I dont understand Nick play there.

  • @ash-and-ash
    @ash-and-ash ปีที่แล้ว +93

    imagine spending your entire life total to prevent Winota from doing a single flip on her next turn so that Magda could untap with a completely untouched board. also you aren’t the Magda player. can’t say this enough but i do not agree with this threat assessment lmao

    It really felt like everyone was either helping or ignoring Magda. All the stax pieces slowed the other players around more and no one interacted with their board at all. I don't know if it's because people were too focused on the "stronger" decks at the table, or what.

  • @samhammel8268
    @samhammel8268 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Definitely some misplays and while I don't think this was a great game in terms of plays, it is equally important to see these games and learn from them. I feel like Cam probably needs to be a little more aggressive in going for plays that win with this deck. The REB was not a spite play even though at first I wasn't sure, I think it was totally fair but I don't know if I would have done that. The biggest thing that really changed the outcome of the game was the over-extending on Winota as others have pointed out without touching Magda especially considering back to basics was on the table by the krak player.
    While I probably won't be revisiting this game for entertainment value it's a good example to show people of how a few mistakes can drastically change a game and have others grow from it. Always look forward to more content.

    • @davisjohnson7987
      @davisjohnson7987 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Imo, nothing is a spite play if you threaten to do it beforehand. Then it just becomes part of the cost of killing you.
      It would be the same as someone swinging lethal damage at you and you blocking effectively - just the cost of taking you out of the game.
      I think it would even be fine in the following scenario: you are at 1 life, you have no blockers, each opponent has the ability to kill you on their turn. It seems you have no outs - unless nobody wants to kill you.
      One way you can try and survive is to say, “I have 3 removal spells in my hand. I will fire them all off at someone who tries to kill me.”
      This way you can hope that for each opponent, it’s not worth it to take you out of the game to have their board set back.

    Magda, too strong against stax, turning off artifacts helps.
    Dylan was completely shut out of this game.
    Krark seemed like it struggled to advance its game plan. Can maybe kept a slow hand with no interaction.
    Dylan was screwed early and was a non-factor. Wish I knew what cards Cam drew during that game. Maybe he kept a suspect hand. Teferi needs lots of burst mana and counter magic, the control game was not the best call against these opponents. A cyclonic rift would have been good of course.
    The back to basics seemed to mostly hurt Dylan.
    Gilded drake would have made this game way more fun to watch. The lack of artifact removal seemed odd with multiple red players. Although Magda did not care about any of the stax pieces. Null rod would have helped against Magda, unless he was holding artifact removal, which I don’t know.

    That Krark player really warped the game, and not in a good way. I understand that cEDH is a complex game and I too have had terrible games, but that spite REB really felt salty. I think there should not be room for that in cEDH. At least it wasn't impactful.

    • @vroomzoom4206
      @vroomzoom4206 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, problem is it's combo is non-determnistic so playing in tournaments cant be rough cause your opponents can make you play it out and it can sometimes take a while to get to a win.

    • @exsnypre
      @exsnypre ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vroomzoom4206 Krarkashima has the same problem and sees relatively high rates of play. I think the bigger issue with Gitrog is it's reliance on the graveyard and it's inability to stop most opposing combo lines.

    Also, this teferi list is an abomination with time walks and extrapropriates, he won the finals by drawing sol ring crypt vault and a turn 2 teferi.
    Also Ken Baumann would probably have vomited blood watching that K&S play.
    Never invite them back again.
