    An RGV native here! If there is something we look forward to down in the Rio Grande, it’s the arrival of our “Winter Texans” as we call them! We love seeing you guys here and appreciate everyone who continues returning to The Valley even though it’s not the prettiest at times and on some days gets very windy. (We also don’t enjoy the strong wind haha)
    Loved your video, and hope to see you soon again! And to everyone who is considering visiting, please do!

      Thanks Sabi. Ya we love being a Winter Texan. We stay in Mission so it's not nearly as windy there as it is in Harlingen or east of there.

      Would love to know more about RGV, we just want to live somewhere more tropical than Houston and with our business we can't really live in Florida, Costa Rica, or Puerto Rico very easily. The 6 hours back and forth is already a stretch. I see that some areas are USDA zone 10 and that's what we are after, although I see there is much less rainfall down there and I wonder how polluted the irrigation channels are. Since we are stuck in Texas, we figured the RGV would make the most of it, but we are international and don't know anything about Texas - Mexican - Tejano etc culture , but we don't mind being outsiders for a little while

    I truly enjoy watching your videos. Your channel is the first place I look for information. As new RV'ers, we have learned so much that we have the confidence to try things that we would never would have attempted before. Thanks for everything you have done to keep us heading in the right direction! We know that you have recently become aware of some health challenges. We wish you the best of luck for a full and speedy recovery.!

    We had reservations at Bay View in Rockport for the winter, then Hurricane Harvey hit and changed everything. We still went to Texas without any plans other than visiting my daughter in Fort Worth. When the weather took a nasty turn we didn’t know what to do or where to go so we decided to head for the coast. We ended up staying a month in Bay View. The park was destroyed by the hurricane as was the entire town of Rockport. I never realized the damage a hurricane could do. We met some great people there but it wasn’t very nice. Blue tarps on every roof, most of the businesses closed, and piles of debris everywhere. We still liked the area though and decided to return the following winter. This time we stayed in Aransas Pass. It was a wonderful winter with a lot of nice people and we hope to go back again someday.

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joanie and I have been to Rockport many times BEFORE Harvey. Beautiful place. MY neighbor right behind us here in our winter spot in RGV, had just put a brand new $92K 5th wheel in a permanent spot there in a RV park. Had it delivered. He didn't have a truck. 5 days later Harvey hit and literally everything was gone. The whole park and everything in it was gone. Insurance paid him, no questions asked. Sad 😂
      Ya, some hurricanes can be really scary. I've been thru 4 of them and 2 Tropical storms. Harvey and Allison were the worst of all of them all....and it was all about the rain.......and lots of it. Takes years to get back to somewhat normal.

    Thanks for the great information. Since you've stayed at several Encore resorts in the RGV, what are the top two you recommend? Much appreciated.

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well there's 300 parks down here in RGV but yeah, we stay in Encore parks because that's covered within our Thousand Trails membership which is 2 weeks in for free and one week out we pay $20/night. Then rinse and repeat.
      We use Country Sunshine & Southern Comfort USUALLY for our out week, but as far as our 2 week free stays, it just really depends on what you want to do. Each part is different, has different amenities, activities, and so on, so it's hard to say "what's the best or the top 2". Hope this helps some.

    Very good info on TT/Encore. What you did seems a very good way to start a full time life. Like you guys, we are not keen on running all over our first year. The past two summers we have stayed in an Elks campground at a lake here in New Mexico. We will continue to do that. That is May thru Sept. The RGV sounds perfect[except for that #@&$% wind] for our first winter trip. If you could expound on the one week out of TT as far as cost and reservation plans and so forth would be most appreciated.
    I like your guys easy common sense approach to things. Thanks

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So first of all there is no actual TT parks down in RGV. But we do have the additional Trails Collection along with our Elite TT membership.These together, allows us to stay in an Encore Park for 2 weeks free. But then we use our Encore Membership which is included in our TT Elite membership package to pay for one week out which is on average $150/wk. Then we go back to our Trails Collection for another 2 weeks at a different Encore Park for Free. Rinse & Repeat. There is a learning curve to utilizing TT, Trails Collection and Encore to make this all work. All TT memberships are not created equal. Do you due diligence.

    We have been to that park! The horn blows from one side of the park to the other across the back What is your view on the up-grades to the TT's package?

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, it depends on what package you have now. We have some friends who have the Ultimate Odessey Package and they can currently book 180 days out and can stay 28 days per booking. But if they bought this latest upgrade, they still could book 180 days out but each stay drops to 21 days per booking. But then they gain the ability to go to Encore Park to Encore Park without having to pay out their out week. But they would still have to buy the Trails Collection if they wanted full access to all those other Encore Parks and that is another $299/yr.
      We have the Elite Basic Package. They only sold this package for 2yrs. We can book 120 days out, 21 day stays per booking, but we have Encore included which means we can go to Encore to Encore parks but we have to pay for our 1 week out which is usually $20/night. Most TT packages do not have this option. But we still have the option to buy the Trails Collection too if we want to broaden the amount of Encore Parks availability. Now for this traveling season coming up, we decided not to buy that option. We won't need it for our travel plans this year.
      So what I'm saying is, doing this upgrade may or may not be better. It really depends on the way you travel and what kind of package you have now. You may gain some things but then lose some too. For us....we decided it was too much money for what you get and what we have is just fine and fits our plans, so we didn't upgrade.
      Hope this helps.

    I probably won’t get an answer to this since this was nine months ago, but I just recently found your videos and I’ve been trying to watch as many as I could, my question is with 1000 trails membership down in Texas did you have to have reservations for all of the parks ahead of time?

    • @RVstreet
      @RVstreet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. We have an Elite Membership and we can make reservations 120 days out with TT Parks and 60 days out with Encore Parks. Texas TT Parks are all mostly real busy year round and especially during your summer and big holidays like Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. If you don't have advanced reservations for any of those, you are not going to get a spot 99% of the time. It's pretty much like that anywhere you go. Peak seasons high volume of people, off season usually more sites available. But again to answer you question, yes we always make reservations way in advance.
      Thanks for your question Barb
