You need to heat the clay very slowly to start with. Even when the clay feels dry to the touch there is still moisture in it. If you heat it too fast, or the flames touch the clay too soon, the water content will turn to steam and burst the clay open. Also you need it to eventually reach around 1000c to properly transform clay into pottery. A good guide to that is when the interior of the kiln changes from a red hot to a yellow glow. The beach camp is look really nice, it is amazing what can be done with the natural materials around you. That fishing pole is quite unique and works well without a reel! I also like how your shelter blends in with the coastline, if you were not looking for it one might go past not even noticing the shelter. Oh and I have seen others crush old broken fired pottery to a fine dust and then mix it in the clay for new pots, it is suppose to help decrease cracking. The clay may have been wet/damp inside. Very neat to watch the learning process.
