  • In this 2nd installment of our Sammy Duet trilogy, we look back to where it all began. While bands like Crowbar (@crowbar8781) and Eyehategod (@EyeHateGodTV) were starting to make waves in the city of New Orleans, a group of outliers were creating noise well ahead of their time further south. They wore their influences on their sleeves combining the grooves of Sabbath, the intensity of Discharge, and the artistry of The Doors. No idea was left on the table, which made for a very eclectic debut release. With artwork that perfectly matched the album's dark lyrical themes, it instantly made a statement in the underground. Due to their brief history as an active band, their discography (as well as their story) has long been a topic of discussion amongst diehard circles. As we approach its 30th anniversary, join us in celebrating Acid Bath's landmark debut record 'When the Kite String Pops'.

I was lucky enough to catch Acid Bath live opening for Brutal Truth and Pungent Stench in Dec. of '94. They would have stolen the show if Brutal Truth weren't so good that night. Have been a fan ever since. It's cool to see people still discussing this album.

God damn! You got Acid Bath in that package? We just had BT and Pungent Stench in the Netherlands.
Edit: Macabre was there too, come to think of it

That tour was also my first exposure to Acid Bath; have loved them ever since. BT was amazing the night I saw them, as well. I got fucked up in that pit.

A lot of people don't know this but Steve Lukather did the riff on beat it, EVH just did the solo. Also Jonathan Davis of Korn has said Acid Bath is one of his favorite bands.

One of my favorite bands. Brutal lyrics, brutal riffs, and great performances. At the time, they sounded wholly unique for someone on the West Coast (so sludgy, Dax’s vocals, etc.)

I met Sammy twice first was 95 when he came through El Paso with acid bath/DRI tour. DRI used to own Rotten Records. The second time was 98. I was on tour with this band Short Hate Temper and he was at the bar we played. His jaw was wired shut because he was making fun of some nu metal dude called them Korn clones and they jumped him and beat the hell out of him. They kicked him while he was down and broke his jaw. He hates Nu Metal

If Acid Bath were from California and Ross Robinson produced this album they wouldve been huuuuuge. System Of A Down and Slipknot quite obviously influenced and at times completely rip them off. The start of Prison by SOAD is nearly identical to Jezebel off this album. Not nearly enough homage is paid. Glad you guys picked up on the disco beat on Dr Suess too, so random but it works!
