    The patron saint of the O'Neills was Saint Mura of Fahan, here in Donegal. He was sixth in descent from Niall of the nine hostages. Please watch a video we created to raise awareness and funds to conserve the cross and church remains at his original monastic site. We also have a website @t Thanks people.

    I am directly related to this man and have the R-S675 gene, I am born of the docherty family, which is the modern form of Ó Dochartaigh, which means hurtful or obstructive. The Ó Dochartaigh clan was led by Cenél Conaill, who was the great-grandson of Conall Gulban, who was the son of the famous Niall Noígíallach

    It makes sense that he did die on the continent around 430.Atilla was running amok and the Roman procounsel Aeitius was cobbling together alliances with The Visigoths and anyone else willing to fight the Huns.Aeitius would have welcomed Irish warriors.The monks may have been on the money afterall.

    There is a story that as a boat approached the island of Ireland. It was announced that the first man to touch the shore would be proclaimed king of the island. As the boat approached the shore, Niall cut off his own hand and threw it onto the shore, thereby claiming his place as high king.

    Hi, Pat. My name is Ray Fearne. Like a lot of people, I'm trying to trace my ancestors. In particular, on my Mothers side & that's where you come in. :) Her maiden name is O'Donnell from Donegall. I've watched your You-Tube videos & my Mother presented me with a key ring. It contained a yellow crest, with a blue sleeve, & hand, holding a red cross. As I dig though my family's history, I have many questions! I gather, my family was related to the O'Neils In the area described as Ulster. I'f, I'm correct in thinking this is what, we now know to be Northern Ireland? Secondly, is there any information, you could provide me with. In regards, to my ancestors, both previous & after the fleeing of Queen Elizabeth the first?

    I'm a black man and Nial is my DNA grandfather. Hi, I"m Harrold. I was born and raised in San Diego, CA and now live in Atlanta, GA as an adult. I grew up knowing and identifying as an African American. Recently I have my DNA history sequenced and I am a direct paternal line grandson of Niall of the Nine Hostages. But if you saw me in passing walking down the street, you'd likely see me as a Black Man. Quite Shocked, but DNA doesn't lie. What is crazy is that I know on my mom's side of the family they are from the Tyus Clan. So I guess it goes to say that I'm a Black Irishman? Only in DNA, not in culture. I do like Colcannon and champ, Boxty and Soda Bread, I guess now I know why LOL. I've asked a geneticist in the UK and in Ireland to test my DNA even more but I haven't gotten anyone interested yet. I'm enjoying finding videos on TH-cam about my Irish family and the line of my DNA grandfather NIALL who died in 428. I guess this means, I'm a Prince? LOL

    @jimaldo64 It was Irish monks that invented the whole story about egyptians, in order to try and connect the ancient Irish to the bible. You must be wary of guys that refer to themselves as archaeologists these days that try to come up with these crazy theorys to sell books. Irish people and egyptians are a completely different dna signature and you can google that. The bible can be interpeted many different ways sometimes, it helps to be careful jumping to conclusions.

      MrRonanONeill Irish isn't a ethnicity. Ireland is your nationality and WHITE is your ethnicity. People all these world's werent made for a reason they do have different meanings lol.

    • @DKluvTALZY
      @DKluvTALZY 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MrRonanONeill also it's very possible to be "part Irish" 90% of people in today's world if they got a gene check would find they are actually a mix. It's very rare if not non existent to find a "pure bred" human of just one ethnicity in modern society. I'm sure if you go to Africa etc or find tribes that haven't had mixed contact then it's possible. But majority of people in a first world country will be a mix of things. Even if they have a totally white family it's still possible to have black ancestors etc so it's very possible that you're mixed with other white races to.

    • @Holy_hand-grenade
      @Holy_hand-grenade 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yamaha Life that’s ridiculous. Is a Chinese man not Chinese because he lives in Singapore? Is his ethnicity simply Asian? No.
      Phenotypes: Northern European, Mediterranean, East African, Southeast Asian etc.
      Ethnicity: Irish, Scottish, Basque, Thai etc. your genetic-ancestral, rather than cultural heritage.
      Nationality: American, British, Irish, Argentinian, etc.
      Race is largely an ambiguous social construct used to lump ethnicities and phenotypes into usable data sets and simplified talking points.

    I hadn't heard about the Neil/Nile myth, but the Scots appealed to the Pope for their independence on the basis of a supposed relation to Egypt. The Pope back then bought it (for better or worse) 2x, then finally gave control of Scotland to the English, probably cuz he knew they (the English) weren't going to stop anyways.

      Aye but can he trace his ancestors to Noah (though apparently everyone can?).It is said that Niall of the Nine Hostages was descended from a biblical Nial who was the 3rd great grandson of Noah and the Nile River was named for him.
      Descended from him was Niall of the Isle of Barra in the Scottish Outer Hebrides who is the progenitor of the Clan of MacNeill.
